Sir Rols Posted March 21, 2014 Report Share Posted March 21, 2014 IOC "oppose" Russian businessman's attempt to trademark defective Olympic logoMarch 21 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declared it is "opposed" to a Russian businessman's attempts to trademark the defective Olympic logo seen at the Opening Ceremony of Sochi 2014. According to RBC Daily, Dmitry Medvedev - who bears no relation to the Russian Prime Minister of the same name -– filed an application to the patents office to allow his construction company Miroviye Shedevry, or World Masterpieces, to use the image of four open rings and one closed ring as a trademark. This image gained notoriety during the Opening Ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympic Games when only four of the five snowflakes opened to display the Olympic logo. Since the application was filed by Medvedev however, the IOC has told insidethegames they are opposed to the Russian's actions. "The IOC is aware of this matter and is opposed to the trademark application because of its similarity with the Olympic Symbol," an IOC spokesperson said. "An appropriate response will be given." World Masterpieces has already started using the logo in an advertising campaign but wanted to "insure themselves against possible claims from the Olympic Committee," Medvedev said.The application process is said to take a minimum of 12 months to process, during which time World Masterpieces will be able to continue using the image for advertising purposes. Although the application is likely to be rejected, according to intellectual property lawyer Vladimir Etin, due to its similarity with the Olympic logo, he admitted it had been a good PR campaign by the company, adding: "Upon annulment of the application, no financial sanctions can be applied to the business." No; they weren't...but they were placed there by events which superseded them; and it was a different world and different mindset then. But the Bolsheviks who grabbed power have just ruled by intimidation, lies, bullying and sheer might. No wonder the ordinary (or actually the older) Russians don't know any better. And it's too late for the over-50 Russian crowd to hope to participate in a truly democratic tomorrow for themselves. They were just so used to the old order and Bloody-MIR the Ugly has at least restored some "glory" to their self-esteem...which is, of course, how AH rode the support of his own deflated German populace after the defeat of WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles. I had family members unfairly persecuted by that regime directly supported by free, democratic America. Americans were just as liars, and thieves and grabbers as the Soviets. The Russian organizing committee made money from merchandising but also received funds from the host nation’s government. It did not fund the major infrastructure and construction projects associated with the Games. “The estimated operating profit which the organizing committee received is in the region of five billion rubles ($140 million) and will go towards the development of mass sport in our country,” organizing committee head Dmitry Chernyshenko said. Chernyshenko said the organization had made a profit of between 1.5 and 2 billion rubles ($42 million to $56 million) on merchandising, while the rest of the sum was taken from a valuation of property owned by the organizing committee. The most recent figures for government subsidies for the organizing committee were published in December, when an extra $50 million injection took total subsidies to around $420 million. Competing at the Olympics for Thailand as Vanessa Vanakorn, using the surname of her Thai father, she finished last of 67 racers in the giant slalom. To earn enough points to be eligible for the games in February, she had to compete in races in Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, and Switzerland. But the Slovenian Ski Association says on Friday it found evidence indicating that the races it hosted in January were "fixed at the behest of Thai ski officials to meet her qualifying criteria for Sochi." A total of 25,000 people from all around the world volunteered for the Games. At the start of the Games, the Organizing Committee had 53,000 permanent and temporary members of staff. After the Games, the Organizing Committee announced that its operating profit totaled 9 billion rubles. The Sochi Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were very well received both in Russia and abroad. According to the survey conducted in April 2014[1],the Olympics significantly exceeded expectations of the vast majority of Russians (94%). According to the research conducted by the International Olympic Committee, which involved 36,000 respondents from 16 countries, the athletes and spectators highly praised the organization of the events, qualityof the venues and the Games’ excellent atmosphere. During the Games fans from 126 countries and more than 2,859 athletes became guests of Sochi. The Sochi Games were broadcast by 464 TV channels around the world— almost twice as much as previous Vancouver Winter Games. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee received high marks from the IOC, IPC and international sports federations. The Games proved to be a commercial success –the total amount of income from the Sochi 2014 Marketing Program exceeded $ 1.3 billion. Innovative ticketing strategy completely proved itself with the total of 1.1 million tickets being sold. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee was established on 2 October 2007, soon after the successful bidding process for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It was responsible for planning, organizing and staging of the Sochi Games. Its founders included The Russian Olympic Committee, Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation and the Administration of the City of Sochi. All the earnings, including cash and transferable property, were re-invested in the development of sport in the Russian Federation and socially significant projects. The majority of property was distributed to the Olympic and Paralympic Committees of Russia, organizations reporting to the Russian Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Krasnodar Region, as well as the Administration of Sochi. That doesn't make sense. Meanwhile the ruin fetishism of photographers also appears to be misleading.
