Scotguy Posted June 15, 2014 Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2014 Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry will join other senior members of Royal Family at the Commonwealth Games, Buckingham Palace has said.William, Kate and Harry, who were all official ambassadors for Team GB and ParalympicsGB at London 2012, will watch athletes from across the globe compete at the event being staged in Glasgow next month.The Queen will formally open the Games in a ceremony at Celtic Park on July 23 attended by the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Earl and Countess of Wessex.During the ceremony the Queen will read aloud the message she placed in her baton that has been travelling around the world and is nearing the end of its journey.The following day, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Commonwealth Games sites, while William, Kate and Harry will join spectators at the sporting championships on July 28 and 29.Edward, who is vice patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation, and Sophie will attend events throughout the two weeks of the Games, with the Earl closing the championships on August 3.Charles and Camilla will visit a Commonwealth Games venue in advance of the opening ceremony on July 23.Other members of the Royal Family who will visit the Games include the Princess Royal on July 26, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester on July 24 and 25 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

micheal_warren Posted June 16, 2014 Report Share Posted June 16, 2014 I have been asked by one of my friends who works at the organising committee if I would be a team attache for one of the countries. i must say the offer is very tempting as I would receive infinity access to all sports and venues. But I only arrive in the city a week before the games start so may be a bit tight, and may require alot more work than I might want to do whilst on holiday. What do you guys think? She was there for the OC, but what I remember is when the camera zoomed in on PM Margaret Thatcher, the crowd let out a colossal boo when the "big screen" showed her. She didn't undergo a tour for the Diamond Jubilee and Charles is greatly taking over her obligations. It may technically be possible for the Queen to abdicate as head of state of countries she now finds it difficult to visit (in which case it would also, very conveniently, be possible for her immediate successor to do the same ...). Interesting, Prince Charles had mentioned this idea maaany years ago when he and then disgruntled wife, Diana, visited Australia. And there is nothing to stop him from doing it. Jann Stuckey and Minister for Education, Training and Employment the Hon. John-Paul Langbroek announced today that Emmanuel College student Gabriel Pither will star in the Flag Handover Ceremony at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Minister Stuckey said Gabriel will perform the role of ‘Gold Coast Kid’ in the Flag Handover Ceremony (FHC) in Glasgow, Scotland and star alongside headline act, Jessica Mauboy in a production about Australia, Queensland and specifically the Gold Coast. “The FHC will include the traditional handing over of the Commonwealth Games Federation flag from Glasgow to the Gold Coast followed by a creative performance that will be viewed by a global audience of more than one billion people,” Ms Stuckey said. “In just 45 days, in the exciting role of ‘Gold Coast Kid’, Gabriel will feature alongside Jessica and other Australian stars in a once in a lifetime performance produced by world-renowned event production company David Atkins Enterprises (DAE).” Minister for Education, Training and Employment, the Hon. John-Paul Langbroek said he was thrilled that the Gold Coast school community was given the opportunity to participate in the FHC and that he was particularly excited for Gabriel. “We have amazing talent in our schools and every student considered for the ‘Gold Coast Kid’ role should be very proud, and is indeed a star in their own right,” Mr Langbroek said. “The DAE team told us that the quality of student presentations in the audition process was outstanding with Gabriel’s energy and passion for the Gold Coast making him ideal for the role. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Gabriel, and I together with his peers, friends and family will be watching with excited anticipation to see him shine on stage with other Australian stars.” Ten year old, year five student Gabriel Pither said he is ecstatic to have been selected for the role. “I love swimming, athletics and hockey, which are Commonwealth Games sports, and my Dad has represented Australia in the Commonwealth Games twice in Rugby Sevens. “It’s really great to get to be part of the Flag Handover Ceremony and I can’t wait to meet the other performers and some of the athletes at the Commonwealth Games,” he said. Gabriel excels in swimming – has competed at state level – and he was recently selected in the South Coast district Under 12 Hockey team and is also a member of the Mermaid Beach Surf Life Saving Club where he was recently named 2014 Under 10 First Age Champion. Emmanuel College Principal, Patrick Innes-Hill, said he was absolutely delighted to learn Gabriel had been chosen for the role. “The school has been actively involved in Gold Coast 2018 initiatives from the bid days when we adopted Nauru in the Adopt a Commonwealth Country program, until more recently when we produced artwork for presentation in Glasgow. “We will be looking toward arranging a special opportunity for us to watch Gabe in the Closing Ceremony and to celebrate the fact that the Commonwealth Games will very soon be coming to this city,” Mr Innes-Hill said. The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Flag Handover Ceremony will be televised live in Australia early on the morning of Monday 4 August. The FHC creative piece will also feature select artwork created by Gold Coast primary school students. The blast, near the popular Banex plaza shopping complex in Wuse district, could be heard from miles away and sent plumes of smoke into the air. Police say a suspect has been arrested. No group has claimed responsibility.
