Just noticed the Sochi and Rio forums are soooo quiet. I'm sure the London and Vancouver forums were never that way! Is this place going to be a bit of a ghost town after London 2012? I hope not!

I hope Brazil 2014 is an unmitigated failure

We can't be against the World Cup now. We already passed the point of no-return. Billions of dollars were already spent. Unfortunatelly, even opositing press now wants the World Cup, despite Teixeira and their gang... Be more reasonable, RobH. You're a nice guy.
-
Oh don't be so wet,Dannyel. So you're telling Rob he can't be a nice guy and angry at the same time. Think about it...
-
He is a nice guy and continue to be IMO, despite his angry against Teixeira. =]

I don't doubt the ice version is more athletic. But when it comes to nomenclature, I'll stick by the terminology the IOC, and the majority of the world, uses: http://bit.ly/ezkVoi
-
Not to mention their own international federations.
-
So were you being unecessarily pedantic intoronto or were you genuinly confused which hockey London would be staging a test event for? Hmmmmm... :-D

Christ Almighty, did Northern Irish MP just quote Alan Partridge in equal marriage debate?

Man and sheep in your neck of the woods, surely.
-
...LOL! Good come back...now go pump yourself up on steriods, sport!
-
What will happen if gay marriage is legalized Alex? Will the rapture occur? Will people drop dead from shock? No all that will happen is gays will be married. Everyone should be treated equally including gays and they deserve to be married.
-
And we're up an running...but it's not the weekend tomorrow like it feels. Body clock will be royally fecked up by the end of this WC!

Got an Olympic tennis ticket. Early round but Court No. 1.

Yep, I've never been either, figured the Olympics was my best shot at getting tickets. Lee, Mainad, there's tickets on cosport for other sports still I think.
-
Rob, had a quick look. Are you buying from the UK cosport or another country? Everything i seem to search for is over 1,000 euro.
-
It's OK, I figured it out.

I'd have taken Aus, but I got stuck with Uganda.

you'd have tried to give me australia, but it would have kept coming out england and you wouldn't have been able to figure out why.

Same **** every morning I log onto the LA thread. I know you have mod status ostensibly to remove spam but surely you could suspend RuFF and explain to Rob L later if he has a problem with it? The mod doesn't seem to be repointing to reports at the moment. I doubt many here would have a problem with you stepping in.
Cheers,

It's almost exactly a repeat of the old Jim Jones days, don't you reckon?
Anyway, I put a reply in Quaker's other status update - as I said there, I have been doing some surreptitious deleting of posts.
Yeah, SSC is a bit more sane at the mo. At least there you get a bit of proper discussion amidst the LA rah rah. Here its just LA rah rah and schoolyard squabbles and worse. Pesto's a piece of work though, eh? But I'm just trying hard not to let the Ruffs and the Pesto's of the world get me riled up and drag me into the fray.
-
Not sure what to make of pesto. A lot of the time seems reasonable enough (and definitely is in other threads he posts in). but occasionally goes into full RuFF-mode massively overegging Paris' risks and making it sound like a 3rd world city. He's never got personal or nasty though. I think he just enjoys stirring the pot sometimes.
-
BTW, I don't know if your inbox is full but the reason I did this in a public status update was because the forum wouldn't let me PM you. Just in case you were wondering.

Olympic Rings in London: http://bit.ly/zqPBCd
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
What are you talking about? In Vancouver for 2010 they had the rings in the water like what London will have. It isn't an issue.
-
In Athens too.
-
And we'll be nicking Sydney's rings on a bridge idea too. I think there is a difference between what London and Vancouver have done though. London's set are smaller and designed to be floated in front of landmarks. Vancouver's were huge and in one place, and were designed to be seen across the whole harbour.

I'm 28% NORTHERN according to the #northometer! That's somewhere around London. http://toys.usvsth3m.com/north-o-meter/

I am 70% Northern somewhere around Hul - shame it only does North England and not North Britain

Are you RobH Rob?

Yes

If Wembley can have the 2011 and 2013 CL finals, why can't Brazil have the 2014 and 2022 World Cups?
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
..imagine the protests in Brazil...
-
by that time we expect everyone to be middle class.
-
The protests here are mainly a middle/upper middle class thing. If we get 2022 expect beheadings of presidents.
-
Ha! Gamesbids search doesn't let you search for "Rio". Well, this is awkward...
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
seriously, is there a reason why you can't google site:gamesbids.com/forums "rio" though?
it's not chronological? yes, but you can add varying degrees of context to narrow the search.
-
It just wont do searches on words of three letters or less.
-
that's why i said GOOGLE it. psh, some journalist.

Time to ban Serbia from International football for a year or two.

UEFA's position couldn't be much clearer could it? Unless you don't think throwing stones at black players constitues criminal behaivour, And the fact their coaching team as well as their fans were involved makes it worse!
-
And England spent a great deal of money preventing hooligans from travelling abroad after 2000. Serbia has clearly done nothing to tackle their problems despite repeated UEFA fines which clearly don't work. Next step IS a ban.
-
Danny Rose: Two stones hit me in the head. I was slapped twice. There was monkey chants whenever I touched the ball. They have to be banned

Congrats to you all!! It was amazing to see, and it was the first tennis match that I actually watched for more than five minutes....

Del Potro would have played a tighter match to Andy.

I'm afraid a Fancy Dress party for a mate's 30th and the chance to wear a John McEnroe wig has beaten GBids into second place.

LOL - fair enough! hard to argue with a John McEnroe wig!

Would anyone else enjoy it if the Sochi Games turn out to be an utter failure? - http://www.gamesbids.com/forums/topic/20653-sochi-2014-related-news/#entry416135

Can't say I'm wishing failure, but I do really hope for some political protest or statement that will embarass the regime.
-
Maybe Putin will mess up his lines when opening the games?
-
Maybe he will say 'the games of S-Sochi' lol

London and Vancouver seem like such a long time ago....hopefully Rio 2016 can restore some of that shine.

The subject of the open forum in Tokyo↓is "The Olympics/the Paralympics and culture programme-from London 2012 to Tokyo 2020"
-
Actually, they don't seem that long ago to my mind. I notice you ignored any mention of Sochi. I kind of feel the same way!
-
That exactly the point; Sochi has removed the Olympic shine. London and Vancouver seem a long time ago given everything we're reading about Russia's Games.

Penny for Jim Jones' thoughts....

Not far off, it was taken from Centrepoint.
-
I think I meant exact that point - I just wasn't aware that the street Charing Cross Rd changes its name into Tottenham Court Rd - I meant the construction pit exact opposite of the Centrepoint
-
I thought that it is still the Charing Cross Rd when it meets Oxford Street/Bond Street

Right, how does any team beat Barcelona next year? Answers on a postcard...
- Show previous comments 1 more

FFS, who cares?! That match proved FIFA's irrelevence and Blatter's stupidity in constantly using FIFA as a synonym for football. The whole organisation could collapse next week and we'd still be talking about Barcelona.
-
Football wins tonight. Simple.

Santos will beat them at the World Club Championship!!! Go Santos!

Brazil 2014 World Cup draw already a failure as British journalists barred from asking questions. Keep going Brazil, you're doing a wonderful job so far (not)

Guys, English journalists made all questions they wanted in all interviews.
This problem was only with the stupid Mr. Teixeira. And it will be like this for a long time, I can see...

how can that be?
