gotosy
Brazil's Meirelles to lead Olympics agency - paper (Reuters) - Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff picked former central bank chief Henrique Meirelles to manage an agency coordinating investments for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. Meirelles, the longest serving central bank chief, stepped down in December after eight years at the helm of the bank. He will be in charge of the Olympics Public Authority, created by Rousseff's predecessor, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Congress is expected to pass a law establishing the authority by March, O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper said. Representatives from the federal, state and city governments will make up the agency, which is expected to have a budget of around 30 billion reais ($18 billion). DannyelBrazil
I agree on Windsor tower being a "monster" in a neighbourhood where all the building have almost the same height. It makes the landscape weird... But to say Rio is not known for its archtecture??? For sure, not like Brasilia or Istambul unique cities in the world about archtecture, but Rio receive visitors (specially from abroad) every year just to see the diversity of styles and what the call the "decades line" of the city! And, indeed, I watched a documentay from Canada about this too. If you walk from Downtown to Barra da Tijuca/Recreio, you will see Portuguese traditional Housing style from the 1800s in Old part of Downtown, Neo-Classic buildings 1900s in Gloria/Lapa, 1910s and 1920s Art Déco in Flamengo Beach and go on like a timelapse line of styles and buildings... And one of the most cool about Rio's downtown it's mixture of styles of new and old. Unfortunatelly, this is a kind of tourism, Rio could explore better abroad. Cauê
Rio de Janeiro Office Rents Overtake New York for First Time February 18, 2011, 7:33 AM EST By Simon Packard Feb. 18 (Bloomberg) -- New York lost its crown as the most expensive prime office market in the Americas, overtaken for the first time by Rio de Janeiro, according to a study by real estate adviser Cushman & Wakefield Inc. The annual cost of renting a square foot of prime office space in the Brazilian city rose 47 percent last year to $120, or $5 more than in Midtown Manhattan, the broker said in a statement today. Rio de Janeiro advanced to fourth from 13th in a global ranking of prime office markets, coming after Hong Kong, London and Tokyo, Cushman said. “Very high demand and a lack of supply” powered the gains in Brazil’s second-largest city, Mariana Mokayad Hanania, a research manager for the broker’s South America arm, said in the statement. Brazil’s economy expanded at an annual rate of 6.7 percent in the third quarter, helped by commodity exports and rising consumer spending. South America registered the highest regional growth in the study, with a gain of 12 percent. Hong Kong overtook London’s West End district as the world’s most expensive location for prime offices. Rents increased 51 percent last year to $241 a square foot as corporations expanded and new businesses competed for a limited amount of high quality space, Cushman & Wakefield said. London prime rents rose 27 percent last year to $233 a square foot, the Cushman study showed. That contrasts with an average of 1 percent growth across Europe. New York advanced to fifth in the global ranking from sixth a year ago after prime rental costs in Midtown Manhattan rose 10 percent to $115 a square foot, Cushman said. Cushman & Wakefield is the world’s largest privately owned commercial real estate broker and is controlled by Italy’s Agnelli family. --Editors: Ross Larsen, Anne Pollak. He will detail how the occupation of the region before and after the 2016 Olympics, including residential and commercial property. Mayor Eduardo Paes launches today, in partnership with the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IAB), an international design contest for the urban master plan called the Olympic Park. The region will host one of the main venues of the Games. In all, 15 disciplines will be played on site. Part of the premises shall be final and will house the training center, run by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), which will form athletes. Other facilities, such as future water park may be disabled or converted to commercial offices, in the case of the media center. Pan will use the equipment required One of the rules of the notice provides for the mandatory use of the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park and the multipurpose arena, built for the Pan American Games 2007. Another factor to be taken into account in the proposals is the use of materials greater durability, and the least possible expenditure of energy and water. Mark landscaped area will need to be observed, such as Stone and the Whale Pond Jacarepagua, which must not be obstructed by new construction. - Is the chosen project that has environmental concerns and to avoid unnecessary public expenditures, and urban quality. Hence the requirement that the equipment is recovered $ - said the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Philip Goes. The architects also will suggest the location of the 2000 parking spaces for vehicles of official delegations, service providers and sponsors. In the case of landscaping, it must be done so when rain water to drain into the lagoon Marapendi do not take debris. For the president of the IAB, Sergio Magalhaes, the selection of the design by contract is a guarantee that the proposal will have chosen quality: - The Rio has to be a vanguard city. Olympic projects not fall into the general mediocrity. They must be bold - Sergio said. The proposals also indicate the location of buildings for sports competitions, as well as placeholders for squares, streets and gardens. The possibility that the investment is made in a Public Private Partnership (PPP) should be contemplated. In the application file, it was predicted that investment in equipment to stay with the Union Ministry of Sports, however, analyzes a proposal from the city to the entry of private capital in order to cut costs both during construction and $ maintenance. - The sports equipment will occupy only 40% of the total area. The remaining land is highly valued. Our suggestion is that part of the collection with the holding of private land is used in the maintenance of streets, gardens and public lighting of the Olympic Park - says Goes. The costs to urbanize the Olympic Park are estimated at U.S. $ 590 million. But the final budget depends on the completion of surveys made by a company hired by the city. This account does not include the construction of a new racetrack in Diodorus, still under $ detailing projects by the Ministry of Sports. The final cost of sports facilities is also not closed yet because the architectural designs will be chosen by a design contest. The prediction is that they begin to be built in 2013 and will be ready in about two years. The contest will award the top three with $ 100 thousand, U.S. $ 50,000 and $ 25,000 respectively. Only the winning project will be implemented. The result should be released until August. Foreigners may only participate if they have representation in Brazil or are associated with a national office.
