Indeed, the tourists had much to fear. A jellyfish and a giant gorilla invaded Rio!

Strange. Were are the negative news from FOX and CNN?

Why not, Texas?

Didn't get your point

I think of pro wrestling, I think: United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe (the WWE always does well in Europe). Then again, they have done well in Qatar, UAE, Turkey and China. Who knows though, there could be millions of Brazilians who are as fanatical about the WWE as they are with football and MMA. Brazil is one of the last countries I would think of when I think pro wrestling. The WWE has done well with events in neighboring countries though (well, namely Ecuador, Chile and Argentina).

I don't really know anything about Brazilian interest in the WWE, just seeing it from an outsiders prospective. However, Brazil is an emerging economy and the potential for a new market overseas while their American fanbase is diminishing is good for the company.

Hopefully, you and the other Brazilians can fill me in, because I really don't know.

You have a strong point.

I don't also know how much appeal WWE have in Brazil and I must confess I don't know one people who is addicted to it.

But, who knows which kind of sponsors they got to do their marketing here, so...

Let's wait and see.

In fact, Brazilians loves anything that is "internationally known" and that will be shown on TV.

With good sponsors and good publicity, the event can be a success.

Professional boxers will fight in Rio, says AIBA chief

More than 50 professional boxers will compete at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, according to International Boxing Association (AIBA) president Wu Ching-Kuo.

"They will definitely be in Rio," Wu told Reuters in London where he was watching the final of the AIBA's World Series of Boxing (WSB) season between Dynamo Moscow and Milano Thunder.

"Look at the Olympic programme of other sports like basketball, volleyball and handball, they have professionals and we are the only organisation that doesn't," he said.

Launched in 2011, WSB featured 12 city franchises this year with teams of five competing against each other to reach the final staged in London's ExCel Centre, the venue for this year's Olympic tournament, on Wednesday.

Next year will see the launch of AIBA Professional Boxing (APB) a professional tournament without vests or head guards in which boxers will receive regular salaries.

"In Rio there will be 56 boxers from the APB and 10 qualified through the WBS individual finals," Wu said.

APB, Wu's brainchild, would mean that boxers coming through the amateur ranks would not have to turn their backs on the Olympic Games in their prime by going down the established professional route, he said.

Any boxer earning a living as a professional in the APB would still be eligible to compete at the Olympics.

In the past, Olympic medallists such as Britain's Amir Khan, who won a silver in Athens in 2004 when still a teenager, have quickly turned professional to cash in on their success.

"It will improve the quality of the boxing competition in the Olympic Games because the top boxers will be able to earn a good living without going down the normal route," said Taiwan's Wu, who took over the presidency of the AIBA in 2006.

"In the past, the best boxers from the Olympic Games and World Championships were wasted by the professional bodies. Let's just say there were many talented boxers who were entered into the wrong competitions and weights by the bodies and were not successful. They couldn't return to amateur boxing, and ultimately disappeared from the boxing world."

Wu said APB could even start to rival the appeal of the traditional professional boxing bodies such as the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Council (WBC).

"I think there are many pro organisations," he said. "I think they will all be watching what happens with APB."

Milano Thunder won the WSB title on Wednesday with Beijing heavweight silver medallist Clemente Russo in their ranks.

Next year the competition could be expanded to 16 teams with Ukraine, Bulgaria and Argentina likely to be represented

I'm REALLY surprised nobody has posted this news before (I also feel ashamed for not finding this earlier). But it seems that we have not only the producers of the handover ceremony this august, but also the Olympic Ceremonies in 2016.

Marco Balich, best known for producing the olympic ceremonies of Torino 2006, is the guy they have chosen.

Rebranding of the Whole Filmmaster Group

MILAN, March 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

The Communications Holding Meets the Challenges of Global Markets.

Filmmaster Productions, Filmmaster Events, Filmmaster MEA (Productions, Events)

A crucial step forward for Filmmaster Group, which in the past year has carried out a process of rationalisation of its brands in order to meet the challenges of global markets with a stronger and more coherent strategy. A process that led to a redefinition in the naming of its operating companies, which from today will be made more uniform by changing to: Filmmaster Productions (ex Filmmaster), Filmmaster Events (ex K-events), Filmmaster MEA Productions and Events.

The process of internationalisation and growth of the Group has highlighted the need to define a global strategy leading to a common brand policy. This has resulted in the decision to privilege the Filmmaster name, a choice supported by the strength of a brand that dates back more than 35 years and has left a significant mark in the history of communications and business entertainment. This is a merely formal change in naming that does not in any way alter the company's structure or the quality that has always been a distinctive feature of work by Filmmaster Group.

Events and audio-visual productions are today the core business of Filmmaster Group, which in 2011 won the executive production of the Rio 2016 Olympic Ceremonies in partnership with Brazilian company SRCOM.

Filmmaster Events will be the new name of K-events, a company with 30 years of experience that has become one of the international leaders in the production of large-scale events and spectacular ceremonies. The first test this year will be the production of the Flag Handover for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Filmmaster Productions, market leader in the production of commercials since 1976, and one of the top award-winning production companies in Italy, in the past year inaugurated offices in Madrid and renewed its roster of directors, signing important exclusive agreements on the international scenario.

Filmmaster MEA, Productions and Events, hub of the Group in the Arab Emirates, was founded in Dubai in 2007 and is continuing its expansion in the Middle East by opening new offices in Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and Doha in 2011.

This is the scenario for a Group that is constantly growing on several markets. The aim of the rebranding is both to communicate in an organic way the different elements of the group and to encourage synergies and exchange of know-how between operating companies.

It has also provided an opportunity to work on a re-styling of the logo, which has been made more effective and modern by using a monochrome, bi-dimensional style and a lighter font.

Also, Marco Balich is going to make the opening and closing ceremonies of the next month UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland Ukraine.

Rio de Janeiro is new UNESCO 's World Heritage Site (Cultural Landscape) 2012

Rio 2016 officials admit to stealing documents from London 2012 during Olympic Games

Employees of Rio downloaded the documents without authorisation while working alongside London 2012 employees as part of an official Olympic 'knowledge transfer' programme.

The Brazilians took the transfer element too far, however, and London 2012 officials were furious to discover the documents has been taken without their permission.

A London 2012 spokesman said: "We can confirm that there were some files received without our permission but the Rio organising committee acted swiftly and returned the files promptly."

London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton is understood to have contacted his Rio counterpart personally to demand the return of the documents.

The information stolen is thought to have included details of London's strategic and security planning. The Rio staff responsible are thought to have been working in London's technology department.

Reports in the Brazilian media claim that nine staff members have lost their jobs following the embarrassing incident.

The theft may add extra interest to the official London 2012 debrief, which will take place in Rio in November. The meeting is supposed to provide the next Olympic hosts with everything they need to know to stage the Games. Rio appear to have already started that process.

Rio 2016 were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
