Ioc Visit To Rio!

Recommended Posts

I think everyone knows by now that I don't do the wishful thinking stuff. So, that being said, the current 2016 race as its stands is a strictly Rio vrs Tokyo affair UNTIL Obama arrives in Copenhagen. Then it will be an obvious three way affair between Tokyo, Chicago and Rio. Should Japan up the anti and ask The Emperor of the most dignified Monarchy in world history to make his appearance......it's going to be outright war between Tokyo and Chicago with Tokyo obviously taking the edge. I am wondering if Copenhagen will be the first time in Obama's Presidency where his unparallel global appeal and charm will not "kick in". If the fatigue factor of the U.S.A hosting the games again is still strong by the time Copenhagen comes around, Rio will emerge as the most loved underdog. These are simply the facts.....nothing personal. BTW? I don't even thing Oprah or NBC's presence are gonna cut it for Chicago.

fatique factor of America Hosting ? America hosted on Three occasions when no one else would Los Angeles 1932 , Los Angeles 1984 and Lake Placid 1980. I don't think the IOC gets Fatique from the very fact that 1984 was the rebirth of the Games . They also never tire of the 60 percent of the TOP sponsorship and the overwhelming haul of US TV rights monies.

Urca seen from Sugar Loaf by IOC team. The bid's logo was writen by people dressing white clothes and carrying candles.

no Really ? it looks like a arrangement of Lightboxes buried in the Sand !!! That would still be incredible and points to some huge imagination on Rio 2016s part.

I don't know what the others are doing but Michael Jordan on a Big screen Compared to Pele live and in Person kicking a soccer ball on a legendary Soccer ground like Maracana !!!!

I would have to score Rio 2016 high on that one .

The IOC members seems happy to be here, they are enchanted with the city. With all those people in the streets holding support signs and with beautiful venues, i have no doubt that we leave a good impression. I can't wait to see that inspection report. If we obtain a good score...

I give Rio props. I respect all of the bids, and any of the four cities can host an exceptional Games. I of course support my home city, but I will not feel "cheated" if another city wins.

The planes were a very nice touch.

I'm going to follow Soaring Higher in saying that Rio has really put forth an amazing package. Though I support Chicago, I would still be very excited if Rio won the games.

I'll tell you guys about what was told during the IOC press conference in Rio (I don't find English articles about it on Internetas of now :_

- They are very impressed by Rio's bid (the same thing was said in Chicago and Tokyo's press conference);

- They praised the quality of the presentations by the B.O.C during the inspection period;

- The I.O.C recognized the strong financial guarantees of the Braziliand, in both three levels of government (Federal,Provincial and Municipal)

- They recognized the beauty of Rio de Janeiro and the warmness of its people;

One interest thing : Gilbert Felli (IOC member) said that Rio's solution to their lack of hotel rooms (consisted in rooms in cruise ships and villages to be built on the docks ) "feasible" - that's the word he used. A bit cold don't you think ?

Now they're heading to Madrid for some holiday in Europe, since we all know that Madrid is completely out of the race lol

IOC's 2016 evaluation team wraps up tour of Rio

Posted 02/05/2009

By Filipe De Almeida, Associated Press Writer

RIO DE JANEIRO — The IOC evaluation team said it was "very impressed" with Rio de Janeiro's bid to host the 2016 Olympics as it wrapped up its weeklong tour of the city on Saturday.

"We have been most impressed to find what Rio has to offer to the Olympic movement," International Olympic Committee chairwoman Nawal el Moutawakel said at a press conference. "During out stay we witnessed the leadership of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and the unity of all three levels of government."

Asked to list the positive and negative aspects of the inspection tour she responded: "All I can say is that everything we saw was positive."

The IOC team spent five days inspecting sports venues and media facilities, along with plans for security, transportation and the overall infrastructure of the city. Pele gave the bid a push on Friday.

"They (the committee's members) were enchanted by the city's beauty and were very receptive," Pele told reporters.

He urged the inspection committee to "support us" because South America has never hosted the Olympic Games.

El Moutawakel praised the plans for the Barra da Tijuca area, which is considered the heart of the city's bid. The suburb would host the athletes' and media villages and contain the biggest cluster of venues.

"Our work is to be the eyes and ears of the IOC members," she said. "And we have seen so many valuable venues that Brazilians can be proud of, such as the legacy of the Pan American Games," that Rio hosted in 2007.

She suggested the World Cup, which Brazil will host in 2014, could have a positive impact on Rio's bid, because it could "serve as a test."

On Saturday the committee and local authorities addressed security issues, which "for us is a top priority, and we were assured that all that can be done will be done to make Rio a safe city for the games," she said.

The IOC team goes next to Madrid, the last stop on the four-city tour of candidate cities.

Chicago and Tokyo have already been looked over in a bidding race that will end on Oct. 2 in Copenhagen when IOC members choose the winning venue in a secret ballot.

In terms of accommodation....

He means, while it would be a challenge, the accommodation concept is "feasible" if all the guaranteed rooms are provided as stated in the bid book at the quality required.

Anyway, welldone Rio on winning this round.

It does look like so indeed. No matter what the Spaniards pull out of the bag, and of course it's dangerous to write off any bid, a Madrid win would be a big, big surprise upset if it happened.

I said way back when the bidding cycle was beginning that Rio's biggest challenge was to make the short list. And they did, what with some creative bending of the rules and policies to make sure they scraped over the qualification line despite being behind Doha.

Since then, they've just gone on to exceed expectations with their lobbying and momentum. Definitely out-campaigning the rest. A few months ago my heart was saying Rio, but my head was saying Chicago. But now my head's also tuning into the Rio samba beat over the Chicago jazz. As long as Rio's not peaking too early, I can now see them snaring it.

Gilbert Felli is not an IOC member. He is the Olympic Games Executive Director.

Purely from a standpoint from gamesbids and the photos and information posted here about individual IOC evalutaion visits, my ratings are as follows

Tokyo:- I mean, we could not really ask for anything more from the Japanese. Every detail was staggeringly impressive and the integration of technology reinforced that the Japanese , if given these games, will leave an unmatched technological and sports legacy. If only the Emporor could get involved its probably a done deal.

Brazil:- Just behind Tokyo....Monumentally breathtaking backdrop for the games. I think it should have pitched the environmental factor more though. Nonetheless, I was absolutely blown away by the Brazilian spirit and determination. Can you image what an Opening Ceromony would be like in Rio?

Chicago:- very good presentation but unceratinties exist. I think they relied a bit too heavily on personalities and sort of shooed away IOC concernsabout a few things. Nonethe less the obama factor lingers.

lets wait on Madrid and see.
