Hightowerio86 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 here's the link for today's ceremony Quote
PikyoK Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 Interesting ceremony, given it's now indoors. According to my weather app, it's now partly cloudy so they could've held it outside if they stored the flags, speech podium, mirror and torch indoors. I remember it came close to raining when the torch for PyeongChang 2018 was being lit. It was cloudy so they used a back-up flame lit in a rehearsal the day before the ceremony. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 After what happend in Paris, you can tell even the slightest forecast of rain is enough to make them act over-cautious like today, but when you see the livefeed of Olympia, it doesn't really look like its going to rain. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 "President of the International Olympic Comittee. Double Olympic Champion, Swiming" in the captions. I see we're going to do this again, huh? 😒 Quote
Bear Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 if anyone is wondering, yes I am in fact timing the length of her speech Quote
Bear Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 7:44. Let's work on shortening things before 6 February! Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 And it begins. Quite bizarre to see a prerecorded Olympia ceremony (the rehearsal from monday I assume). Stefania Belmondo. The greatest italian winter sport athlete and the one who also lit the cauldron in Torino 2006. Kind of fitting she's also at the start of these new italian games. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 Little homage to Innsbruck 64 first torchbearer, and now they stop at the heart of Pierre. Quote
Ikarus360 Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 Nice detail with the brass band performing Chariots of Fire. Now that's new. Quote
PikyoK Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 Very great ceremony. Loved that transition from the lighting at the Temple of Hera to the Museum. Quote
PikyoK Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 I can envision the opening ceremony mc saying: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome ... and the president of the International Olympic Committee, Kristy Coventry; Olympic Champion, swimming, 2004 & 2008. Quote

Surely one of the greatest together with Tomba and Compagnoni. Talking about medals, short track's champion Arianna Fontana has taken the lead as the most decorated italian athlete at the Winter Games. Quote
yoshi Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 I wonder if Stefania will light the cauldron. I doubt anyone has lit the Olympic flame twice so it could be another little bit of history for Milan Cortina. Quote
Rei Posted November 26, 2025 Report Posted November 26, 2025 there are already many prominent names in the room here to let her being the last again.. and she's not even from one of the 2026 host regions so.. Quote

I can imagine them having an athlete from Milan and another from Cortina lighting a cauldron in the stadium together. Unless they're gonna forgo the usual routine and send the final torchbearers to the outdoor cauldron locations. Quote

AustralianFan Posted December 5, 2025 Report Posted December 5, 2025 4 December 2025 Here’s the Handover Ceremony of the Flame to the Milano Cortina 2026 organisers in the Athens Panathenaic Olympic Stadium, Greece. Very nice handover ceremony. The flame then had very short flight to neighboring Italy host country: 1 Quote
Sir Rols Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Oh, look who’re gonna run the torch. These guys don’t enough attention with their clothes on… 'Heated Rivalry' stars Connor Storrie, Hudson Williams to serve as Milan Olympics torchbearers Quote
