  5. I have split this into a separate thread. The previous thread referred specifically to the GamesBids.com main site and not the forums. GamesBids.com Forums cannot be compared directly to Skyscrapercity.com or Totallympics.com because one is a company "With over 800 forum communities, VerticalScope provides the technology that powers the community. Our team of volunteer moderators and administrators watch over the content, and actively patrol for spam, user behavioural issues, and make sure threads are in the right categories" and the other is a site more dedicated and integrated with the forums. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to extensively moderate a full-featured forum and have disabled some features for very specific security and liability reasons. As some of you may know/remember, there have been times in the past where the forums were subpoenaed for information in civil and criminal lawsuits - and restrictions on some of the services you mentioned help reduce the risk and costs in the future (though it may not seem obvious). For over 20 years we have offered this service, mostly without charge. This forum is not for profit but as a service to support users of our main website. We will consider a couple of your minor suggestions, but we can't consider them all. Thanks for your interest and continued support.

  8. I saw Bach’s comments yesterday. That’s about as stern I’ve ever seen an IOC president be at a games. I’d like to think he was turning a bit, but ….. it’s still Bach

  9. Four ways to protect yourself from trolling Ignore Don’t reply to any nasty or offensive comments. Giving trolls attention is exactly what they want and will only lead to more upset. Block Block, block, block. If you’re not sure how to, you’ll find some step by step instructions on how to block trolls on Facebook and Twitter below. Report If you’re being trolled, report the instigator to the site administrators. If they keep popping up, keep reporting them and if that’s still not helping you should contact the police. Again, you’ll find some information on how to report trolls on Facebook and Twitter below. Talk If a troll upsets you, remember it’s their problem and not yours. Talk to friends and family about how you are feeling. Source: Endsleigh.co.uk

  13. There’s lots of threads on individual mascots over the years, you can look for them in the respective forums for them. Or there’s this one, which is more general: Or alternatively, you could start your own, perhaps in general olympics discussions. I’m sure people would love to see them.

  15. Worlds will be in Montpellier. Torino is host to the Grand Prix Final next season. I seriously doubt we will see Kamila there. She has already been discarded by Eteri & Co, given the way they treated her post-skate. I don't know what you saw, from the post-competition footage but, Valieva looked absolutely devastated. There was no joy or happiness. The woman talking to her after she was deserted by Eteri, Sergei Dudakov (technical coach for Team Tutberidze) and Danny G (their crap choreographer) was a Channel 1 producer or production assistant. They didn't even stick with her to console her once she was off the podium, and they've already gotten grandpa to take the fall for the TMZ in her system, even though they're going to demand the B sample be tested because they don't believe that it was really in her system. FWIW (not much), Bach in his press conference today called the treatment of Valieva by her entourage "chilling". And that's exactly what it was. The problem with Valieva (and Shcherbakova and Trusova and most of the other skaters at Sambo-70) is that they have pretty shoddy jump technique that isn't being properly dinged by the judging system currently, and the technique they're using relies on remaining as light and small as possible. Raising the age minimum will help, but fixing the way the tech panels call rotation on jumps would also de-incentivize the shoddy technique that relies on abusive practices to keep these girls as tiny as possible for as long as possible. I have no idea whether or not we'll see Valieva again on the international competitive stage. She is talented as heck but after today... One has to wonder if she'll ever be the same competitor she was before the past 3 days.

Dear GB Moderator You have indicated in the last line of the post these words: “Your attention is appreciated” The attention of GB Moderator is in turn kindly requested and to concerns and issues raised from Gamesbids members as follows in this thread. 19. What you're calling "Cirque du Soleil" has a different, simpler name: Theatre. That's been around for a long time stretching back to Ancient Greece and even before that. Artists have been doing all these things you call "Cirque du Soleil" for a very long time before actual Cirque du Soleil formed. You may not associate art with the Olympic Games, but art and sport have always been intertwined. Every Olympic Games has a vast cultural program, including music, fine art, graphic design, performance, sculpture, architecture, and more. The Ceremonies involve theatrical rituals, and the modern large-scale Ceremony format goes back to 1980, 4 years before Cirque du Soleil formed. This isn't just a modern thing, the Ancient Olympic Games were a place that artists of all practices came together to display their work. If the Olympic Games were simply about athletes, they'd be called "World Championships" and the symbol might be, say, a bar-bell or something. But the Olympics are more than that, hence why the symbol is not of a barbell, but of 5 rings interlocking. You're linking to the producers which is a different crew, different job than who leads the creative direction: in Athens' case, Dimitris Papaioannou, a Greek theatre director. You can see some of his other work here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rK-PLdnQZg&ab_channel=DanceUmbrella There were an enormous number of Greek artists and performers involved in the production, from the creative team building the high-level ideas, to the people creating and directing the props, costumes, choreography, music, and so on. So your linking that, to say that the production was not really Greek, is like saying "Stephen King didn't write this book. His keyboard did!" You're very quick to say that this is wrong and that is wrong and you don't like it; yet you seem to lack basic understanding of what it is you're criticizing and why it is the way it is.

  24. Let‘s be honest here: I fully understand why many Scots want independence, but a freshly independent Scotland would hardly be able to host Olympics on its own without the economic/political support of the UK as a whole. So if there‘s ever a Glasburgh bid, it can only happen while Scotland (still) is part of the UK.
