Start time of the Opening Ceremony  is 7pm Birmingham (UK) time, Thursday 28 July 2022

Like I've said before I have a bit of a soft spot for Birmingham, and I can't pretend to know the city too well, I've only visited a few times and only to the city centre, but I'm quite surprised by just how well the city's scrubbed up. They've even made that godawful Lego block between Victoria and Centenary Square look presentable  Looking forward to this, it feels almost exotic even though it's in England because it looks like it's going to be really local. This makes it feel a bit less sad that the Games are just alternating between the UK and Australia.

That said, we should acknowledge that this should've been Africa's time. I hope Durban can host soon.

Joining the livechat as well.

It's the first time I see a stadium fully packed for an Opening Ceremony ever since this pandemic began.

There's something about ceremonies which start at sunset rather than night which really makes me enjoy them more than I should.
