My guess is Tsn will get the bulk of the mens and womens soccer while Sportsnet will get most of the mens and womens basketball with the odd game from each sport airing on Ctv.

At least what we saw on the first few days with the Canada-Japan women's match, the only pre-Olympic soccer televised on the Consortium before the Opening Ceremony men's or women's, it will be simulcasted on TSN, RDS, and on Rogers Sportsnet. Though on RDS, the TV length is longer than what the English coverers will have and will start earlier with pre-match analysis and end later with post-game material including highlights and analysis. Originally, I assumed TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, and RDS (for the French) would definitely cover that with maybe highlights later that night from OMNI. Makes sense those will because TSN does plenty of soccer from time to time and Rogers Sportsnet co-broadcasted last year's FIFA Women's World Cup with the CBC. It is surprising that's all they will televise before the OC as far as soccer goes. Obviously, it wants assure to get a nice TV audience to start with if Canada is involved; it would have been nice to show a few more games each on both days like Great Britain-New Zealand, Brazil-Egypt, Mexico-South Korea, and Spain-Japan. Those networks surely will get more into it after the Opening Ceremonies.

NBC committed an increasingly predictable thing these days. One in which it has become a household name and seemingly just about almost everybody has. Now we know officially it has entered the social media age when it comes to the Olympics. NBC Sports and Facebook officially announced yesterday their partnership, becoming friends, to create a NBC 2012 Olympics Facebook page that will have, among many things that you would expect from a typical Facebook page, new stuff like the Talk Meter data tool, a Timeline app, and a Social Media Segment during the Games that gauge what people are discussing about on the Olympics. Just a matter of when it will be launched.

Just breaking: RTE Ireland made public its full 2012 London Olympic coverage today! RTE's most comprehensive and biggest ever in its history in all of its platforms starting with Melbourne 1956--2300 hours overall (2000 hours on 12 HD Internet channels with streaming also available for the TV and radio portions, 225 hours on RTE Two will go on for 12 hours daily on TV, and RTE Radio 1, RTE Raidio na Gaeltachta, RTE Radio 2fm, RTE Radio Choice, and RTE lyric FM all covering the rest with bulletins, news reports, music scores, and special Olympic-related programming). From 9:30 to 1, RTE Two will be there live with the likes of Michael Lyster (weekdays) and Tracy Piggott (weekends) present continuing coverage of live action from 1pm-4pm and will be joined by some of Ireland's top sporting names. Then Darragh Maloney takes over from 4-7 with the legendary Bill O'Herilihy back for his 10th Olympics at the primetime anchor spot up to the end at 1am with live action of swimming, track and field, and boxing with reports and analysis of the day.

Wherever you go across Europe, you can catch RTE's London Olympic coverage regardless of where you are in Europe--be it in Great Britain, Russia, Germany, France, Norway, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Serbia, Poland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Sweden, Croatia, Italy, Austria, or Portugal--by using the Eurovision Olympic Portal from the EBU that will be available from July 24 to August 31, as you would other EBU member nations' coverage that you're not actually in. What this means is, if you want to get the BBC's live and on-demand Olympic streaming feed in Britain, you would have to visit the BBC's website. But you can get RTE's through the Olympic Portal. We still haven't got fuller coverage details of Sydney radio station 2GB 830 AM for the London Olympics. Though swimming and track and field is on the menu from them. If Beijing 2008 "]http://www.2gb.com/i...947&Itemid=278] was an indicator from them[/url], there could be an expansion of the hours"]http://www.2gb.com/i...temid=277]hours of coverage[/url] for London. But would Sydneysiders have another option on the radio dial to listen to Australian Olympic coverage outside of the Macquarie-owned juggernaut station from ABC Radio with ABC Grandstand? If you remember four years ago immediately leading up to Beijing, discussions between ABC Radio and Macquarie's 2GB failed to come to an agreement between the two to co-exist in the all-important Sydney market during the Olympics. Thus making the first time ever ABC Radio unable to entirely cover Australia with the Olympics--Sydney's ABC Radio affiliate is 702 AM. It wouldn't be surprising that with many Sydneysiders who don't like the powerful 2GB's coverage and avoid the commercials to turn to 97.3 FM ABC Illawarra in Wollongong or Central Coast's 92.5 FM, both of which can be picked up and heard transmission-wise to many areas of Sydney, including the CBD and the northern and southern Sydney suburbs. 2GB's coverage license area does not extend to those areas, only in the Sydney area for the Olympics.

I have to wonder how much 2GB paid for the at least the Sydney area radio rights to the London Olympics. People can easily assume 2GB is wealthy being a big part of Macquarie. Seems amazing to have such exclusive rights in an area where nobody else has. Must be daunting and expensive for a commercial radio station to do this themselves. Did allow some syndication to make back some bucks with Melbourne's 3SEN. You would assume those two entities would co-exist in Sydney and compliment each other well. I tend to think ABC Radio has the better coverage with its breath of sports ready to call. But I'd like to see that happen. Also I do notice per IOC rules that live radio streaming between the two is prohbited.

The following SMH piece tends to be more Melbourne-centric with residents there have the option of two radio stations 3AW and 774. Macquarie has already struck deals for syndication for 60 radio stations across Australia. There are IOC-mandated blockages involved, though ABC Radio listeners can listen pop-up radio station ABC Games on DAB+. So there are signs of co-existing, but does all this apply to Sydney too?

Over in the Czech Republic, we got new developments as Ceska Televize made public its London Olympic plans yesterday. CT2 and sports channel CT4 will carry a combined 768 hours with 468 of them live with 8 live and exclusive Olympic Internet channels in high-quality HD and audio. Both CT2 and CT2 will cover the Olympics live from 10-24 local Czech time (though things like table tennis, beach volleyball, and tennis can go further past 24:00) followed by encore presentations with the entire all-HD Olympic coverage starting on Friday July 27 with a one-hour special before the Opening Ceremony. Your CT Olympic studio anchors are Robert Zeruda and Jaromir Bozak for the Czech House in London. Streaming will have connections toward Facebook and Twitter. But for the first time in CT's history, it will have its own IBC studio that will connect to the Czech House, which will open itself to the public and hosting concerts from Charlie Straight, Monkey Business, Support Lesbiens, meeting guests like sports stars like Usain Bolt or the Czech soccer stars in London like the Champions League winner Petr Cech or Tomas Rosicky. A modern and digital art gallery from the National Gallery with works coming from the likes of Michaela Rittsteina and David Cerny.

Next door neighbor STV endured some serious shakeups since Vancouver when it has two of its three channels STV2 (Dvojka) and sports channel STV3 (Trojka) covering them. Since then, the Slovakian Radio organization merged with STV in January of last year and the sports channel Trojka, which came into existence in time for the 2008 Beijing Opening Ceremony, ceased broadcasting on June 30. Leaving it with just two STV channels again-Jednotka and Dvojka.

Anyway, it's both that's doing the Olympics. STV2 will have the live daily coverage from 10-1am. STV1 meanwhile will open all things up with the Opening Ceremony and will have both ceremonies with Olympic Studio News coming in three times. SVT1's daily coverage will come in up to four blocks: 14:30-16:30 (in live sports that are of high interest to and feature Slovaks like canoeing, gymnastics, and tennis), from 18-19 an hour of three shows together called London Calling, 5 Olympic Rings, and Olympic Studio. During the week of track and field, SVT1 will cover that live from 20-23. And to end it all for the Olympic days at 23:15, a 30-minute Olympic nightly summary show. I should remind people here that Mediacorp's Channel 8, another Chinese channel, also personalities in its video likely more so than Channel U. Mediacorp announced a few days ago it will air 500 hours in total of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games through many of its channels. As the effort to rally Singaporeans to support Team Singapore under its Ignite The Team Singapore Spirit, support is getting drummed up when some of Mediacorp's public faces along with Team Singapore's Chef De Mission Jessie Phua mingled and played sports with 300-strong Sports School students and played. 100m freestyle swimmer Mylene Ong was honored in her sendoff there. Thanks for letting us know about the uploading of the NBC 2012 London Olympic Media Guide, Barcelona_'92. Disappointed I was expecting some photos and illustrations along with the TV and internet schedules and neither were there. Did get to learn a bit more about NBC's aborted 1980 Moscow coverage plans though.

Just when you assumed that i-Cable had struck an agreement with ATV to give them 250 hours of coverage as Hong Kong's free-to-air Olympic TV broadcaster in June, the negotiations broke down because of the Pearl River Delta region is where the feed is strongest and could go for ATV may interfere with China's CCTV. Earlier this week there was serious worry that HK will not have any free-to-air Olympic TV action. Days were getting short with the Olympics fast approaching. RTP brings up some details about its upcoming London Olympic coverage for Portugal. It decided to create a 24-hour Olympic Channel that will be available on services ZON, Vodafone, and MEO that will premiere on July 25. RTP1 will show both ceremonies as well as many soccer games including ones featuring Brazil and Spain. RTP2 will come in with three daily blocks of Olympic programming that will total 11 hours each day. RTP Infomacao is goign to have three Olympic TV blocks, though we don't what is going to be for either of them. RTP will send a team of 13 professionals and two more for radio that will feature João Pedro Mendonça as coordinator of the production and Luis Lopes (Athletics), Marco Chagas (Cycling), Jose Antonio Fonseca (Handball), and Mario Silva (Basketball) with coverage coming from its IBC studio in London.

LTV7 announced its coverage last week by bringing Latvians round the clock coverage, almost all of it live. This time it will show both ceremonies instead of LTV1. Don't know how many hours in total LTV7 will cover, nor the amount of Olympic Internet streams used by LTV, but the network will show events like swimming and track and field but also popular sports to Latvians and where the Latvians will be in like Maris Strombergs in BMX, lots of basketball, handball, volleyball (both kinds), soccer, and tennis.There will be news at Olympic Studio on 21:10 Latvia time. There will be two LTV7 film crews that will not only go behind the scenes but also talk with the athletes and coaches and show the Games' enviroments. LTV7's Olympics reporters in London are David Ernštreits, Anatolijs Kreipans, Maris Remeniis, Egils Kuperneiks, and Armand Tripāns and will be filmed by John Schoenberg and Egils Shoemaker.

BandSports is getting ready with its 15-person technicians crew in London setting things up in their studio for the 60 personnel there coming soon. Want to get a home media player where I can store as many hours as possible like 800 hours. So that will come in handy. With this in mind during the weekend and beyond, how and what are you all around the world are going to record the 2012 London Summer Olympics? During this and soon afterward, I'd like to get a Blu-Ray DVD burner and connect it to the TV to start recording off of the player starting with standard DVDs. Hope to start with the soccer before the OC! Thinking we should start our own DVD set of the London Olympics down the road...

I don't think such a media player exists. For Beijing, I got an add-on hard drive to my cable box (which still has some Beijing coverage on it, believe it or not). It holds 1 TB which is supposed to be good for about 160 hours of HD recording. Now if you're recording in SD that's one thing (although that you mention a Blu-Ray burner, I'm guessing that's not what you're looking at), but that means you need 5 TB of storage space if you want to hold 800 hours.

What I'm doing for these Olympics (and I did for Vancouver).. I'm doing all the recording through my computer. My weapon of choice then was a Hauppauge HD PVR. You connect it to your cable box and you can record in HD and save it to your computer. For London, I also added a cablecard tuner that will allow me to record 4 channels at once (although I haven't fully tested it yet though, so I'm hedging my bets that will work), so hopefully I can get everything I want. After that, I'll probably dump everything I want to keep to Blu-Ray disc, and I have a 3 TB hard drive to handle everything, and even that might not be enough.

I will probably not be doing much in the way of recording, as I plan to do most my viewing online where I can pick and choose what I wish to watch and have it presented in a nice, neutral feed. I'll try to catch anything I miss right after the Games and before NBC takes down the on-demand video (I have no clue how long they plan to keep it up, Beijing was up into early 2009, but Vancouver for only a couple months afterward).

I don't think such a media player exists. For Beijing, I got an add-on hard drive to my cable box (which still has some Beijing coverage on it, believe it or not). It holds 1 TB which is supposed to be good for about 160 hours of HD recording. Now if you're recording in SD that's one thing (although that you mention a Blu-Ray burner, I'm guessing that's not what you're looking at), but that means you need 5 TB of storage space if you want to hold 800 hours.

What I'm doing for these Olympics (and I did for Vancouver).. I'm doing all the recording through my computer. My weapon of choice then was a Hauppauge HD PVR. You connect it to your cable box and you can record in HD and save it to your computer. For London, I also added a cablecard tuner that will allow me to record 4 channels at once (although I haven't fully tested it yet though, so I'm hedging my bets that will work), so hopefully I can get everything I want. After that, I'll probably dump everything I want to keep to Blu-Ray disc, and I have a 3 TB hard drive to handle everything, and even that might not be enough.

I was able to get all of the NBC coverage from Vancouver using my recorders, but this will be a much greater challenge as there is about twice as much coverage as there was in 2010. I kind of miss the days when I could just put tapes in the VCR and hit record--the quality certainly wasn't as good as it is now, but it was so much easier. I used VHS to record most of the coverage in 2008 and then used my DVD recorder to get the events I wanted most in higher quality.

I've been fortunate over the years to get ahold of full recordings of Olympics from the 80s and 90s that I've been able to transfer to DVD, but I still have gaps that I'd love to fill in someday.

I usually just use the software that came with the HDPVR. It's nothing special, but I rarely do any serious editing (I like leaving the commercials in.. to me, it's part of the broadcast). For Beijing, I actually recorded all the primetime footage in 16:9, although most of those recordings I also left on my DVR, so when I bought my HDPVR (not so coincidentally, that happened right before Vancouver), I was able to save those recordings in full HD.

Whatever I didn't get from Vancouver in HD, I got in SD on my DVD recorders. But I'm not even thinking about that this time.. those DVD recorders are merely a backup, and like you said, there's a lot more coverage this time than 2010.

I feel pretty safe burning to DVD as well. I got my first DVD recorder 9 years ago, and all of the DVDs that I made back in 2003 still work perfectly fine today. I always stick to high quality brands of DVDs--I use Taiyo Yuden and Sony almost exclusively. The only problems I've had with DVDs failing are when I've used cheaper brands, like Memorex. Thankfully I have a burning program that can recover most of those DVDs.

Yes you can. It has a pass thru output that allows you to watch what you're recording. 1 of the intended uses of the device is to record your video game play.. needless to say that would be difficult if you couldn't watch and record at the same time.
