MUMBAI: ESPN Star Sports (ESS) will deliver round-the-clock coverage on the London 2012 Olympic Games from 27 July to 12 August 2012, offering live coverage of the most popular global sporting event to Indian sports fans.

Out of the three channels, ESPN will focus on Indian athletes. The broadcaster expects that the reach for the event will double this year.

Talking about the strategy of covering the event in India, ESPN Software India senior director business development and event management group Rathindra Basu said, "Overall, we have rights to broadcast 240 hours of programming every day for the duration of 15 days which makes it almost 3,600 hours of programming. We will customise our feed especially for the Indian sports fans. The plan is that we will be showcase live broadcast of Olympics on three networks in India - ESPN, Star Sports and ESPN HD."

It is much better. I sent off an email to sky tv today to ask about their plans for the games. Am still waiting for a response from them, but will let you know if I get anything interesting back from them. I pointed out the fact that foxtel website I much better than there's and that TVNZ Olympics website is much better as well.

Looks like NBC has scheduled a conference call for Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm ET. As that day marks exactly 1 month out from the Olympics, I imagine we could be seeing the full press release from them that day with the schedule and announcers, even though a lot of information (both officially and unofficially) has come out already.

That's good but are there any plans for ESPN Star Sports will do likewise with any of the other nations that will get that type of Olympics coverage through West to South to much of Southeast Asia--customized? Some Olympic teams those nations will send will be bigger than others. India's is perhaps the only one in that zone that can afford to have a ESPN Star Sports Olympic channel customized for them. Singapore's and Malaysia's are decently large. Vietnam, Laos, Nepal, and Myanmar will send small delegations. So will ESPN Star Sports with its 15 channels go for a fusion of general worldwide coverage with a diverse array of sports and have some for many of the Asian Olympic teams with maybe a channel devoted to the likes of India?

I too am miffed as to why Sky Sports NZ has not gone more all out in their Olympics coverage other than announcing the eight channels it has in store. And I've been visited that website almost everyday in the hopes of seeing new developments. You're right mattygs and Michael_ Warren, SKY is poor when it comes to this, and it's a rights hoder! PRIME has absolutely NOTHING! It was mentioned though from SKY that PRIME's coverage will be streamed online and that The Crowd Goes Wild will be heavily involved too. Though it's no longer a rights holder, TVNZ does do great job with its Olympics website that does keep abreast about what NZ is dealing with right now in the leadup to London.

Latest member to join the Olympic broadcasting list happens to be OSN, the Orbit Showtime Network, that transmits itself across North Africa and the Middle East based in Dubai. It is a joint-venture between Kuwaiti-based KIPCO and Saudi company Marawid Holding via Orbit following the merger of Orbit Communications and Showtime Arabia. Never heard of this company until now. All I knew was Nile Sports and Al-Jazeera Sports, who I thought was going to be a shoo-in for the Olympic rights. Anyway, OSN got 8 channels--OSN Sports 1 HD, OSN Sports 2 HD*, OSN Sports 3, OSN Sports 4, OSN Sports Extra, OSN Olympics 1 HD*, OSN Olympics 2 HD*, OSN Olympics News 24 HD*--with a combined 225 hours daily with an additional 5 online channels live on OSN Play (free to OSN subscribers) for computers and mobile devices with English commentary with optional Arabic commentary for the major events.

I noticed on FOXTEL's Olympic TV schedule it decided to skip the first unofficial day of the London Olympics with the women's soccer altogether to start its broadcast, despite proclaming the coverage starts then. That's unfortunate. On the other hand with the Mathildas not in it having not qualified from Asia, perhaps it wouldn't be worth it at the very beginning. Opening Ceremony will be at midnight AEST time after the embargo from the Nine Network, which has it exclusively live with the CC, expires. Could use more basketball and indoor coverage outside of the Aussies (Boomers and Opals) and the Dream Team.

Looks like many of the announcers will be back from Beijing assigned to the sports with some changes here and there. Hopefully, we will also get further info regarding the online and mobile coverage and its features. That, and with Dial Global Sports Radio. Haven't heard anything about any Chinese and Korean language coverage like with MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting for Beijing 2008. I also presume we'll get the same from Canada around this time.

That's it? Maybe. Didn't see it all on FOXTEL's schedule of London 2-4 channels when I visited. Surely it will be added later. No other women's Olympic soccer games scheduled on that day? Without a doubt NZL vs. GBR WILL be on SKY Sport's Olympic coverage and kick things off with it...and MAYBE on PRIME too.

Wikipedia says Sport TV in Portugal will show the Olympics as RTP, with probrably the bulk of that on RTP 2 (TBD), surprisingly rejected an offer from the ERC to create an Olympic-specific digital channel for London saying the cost was too expensive and is instead turning to pay-TV services MEO and ZON in negotiations for such a channel that could be funded through advertising.

London 2012 Main Press Centre officially opens

The Main Press Centre (MPC) for the Olympic Games was officially opened today, marking exactly one month to go until the greatest show on earth. During the Games, around 5800 accredited members of the press and photographic media will have access to the action as it happens from this base in the Olympic Park.

The Centre will provide journalists, photographers, accredited non-rights holding broadcasters, and International Olympic Committee and London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) staff with 31,000 square metres of work space across four floors.

A 24-hour hub, the MPC will provide the world’s media the best facilities to enable them to broadcast the action to an estimated four billion people around the globe, and will be open for 52 days.

LOCOG Chair Seb Coe said: “Like the athletes competing at London 2012, the world’s writers and photographers who will be based in the MPC are at the top of their profession. We will offer them state of the art facilities so they can tell the extraordinary stories that will come out of the Games.

“This is our first venue to open for business and we are ready to welcome the world’s media as they come and set up their office.”

Pedro Carcuro (the white-haired, bespectacled guy), Fernando Solabarrieta, Claudia Perelmann, and Gustavo Huerta all passionately excite Chileans about the passion and jubilation of the Olympic Games in London cheering on Team Chile in front of the burning interlocking five rings that resembles like those standard flaming hoops that lions and tigers jump through at the circus interspersed with footage of successful Chilean athletes like Tomas Gonzalez, Kristel Korbrich, Denisse Van Lamoen, and Barbara Riveros mostly from last year's Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico with ordinary Chileans getting patriotic with the Chilean flag cheering on too in this TVN Chile Olympics promo.

With that out of the way, we now know officially more fully what the coverage will be like down in Chile from both TVN and Canal 13. Both will have events shown up to 7 hours each day, sports coverage both say will "more extensive and complex" than ever in Chile live and in HD. Each will send a team of 23 of reporters, technicians, commentators, and producers. Both will cover both ceremonies with their own commenators, while it may look like a simulcast becuase of the use of the same footage. TVN will transmit over 114 hours of coverage overall for its part with C13 doing the aforementioned+. Its sportscasters will be headed by the aforementioned Pedro Carcuro, Fernando Solabarrieta, Claudia Perelman, Gustavo Huerta with Soledad Bacarezza. Outside of the already-mentioned former gymnast Karen Bittner doing gymnastics, Canal 13 has Claudio Palma, Aldo Schiappcase, Juan Cristobal Guarello, and Ignacio Valenzuela as that channel's anchors.

TVN's coverage will favor more towards in emphasis the Chilean Olympians wherever they are mixed with the high-demand events like swimming, track and field, basketball, gymnastics, and volleyball and some visually appealing ones like synchronized swimming, weightlifting, and diving. Canal 13 will

have gymnastics with not just Bittner covering it with a focus on sports where's the drama, emotion, struggle, and tension with a look at the culture of London. Canal 13 will look at Tomas Gonzalez in gymnastics and Kristel Korbrich, 2004 Opening Ceremony Chilean flagbearer, at the pool. here's where the differences come into play: TVN's technological front will issue super slo mo. C13 brings up high quality transmission and surround sound. Both are now counting on the vast experience it earned from broadcasting and production quality since Barcelona 1992 (TVN) to last year's Copa America (Canal 13).

Launching today, the Canadian Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium, or CTV Olympics, brought forth the Ultimate Fan providing different offerings to Canadians testing their love and knowledge of the Olympic Games like in Air Canada's Daily Challenge and Passion To Win with Samsung. Contest winners can score tickets to the Closing Ceremony in London and the Opening Ceremony to the Paralympics and Samsung prizes. With in the latter, the one with the most points for the day wins the Samsung prize. Samsung will present the digital platform results.

On the Canadian Olympic media front, the Consortium family knows Canadian Olympic fans will get 3500 hours live and on-demand with live streaming in HD from each of the networks (CTV, TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, RDS, V). That much is known up to now. Now those can be in a video player online and can expect up to 15 live, uninterrupting in-venue streams taken from the World Feed online and on-demand throughout the Games. All of the online content (up-to-the-minute news, results, live footage, highlights, and in-depth news about Team Canada and the Games in general) will be bilinigual as RDSOlympiques.ca will place more of an emphasis on sports, athletes, and news of specific interest to French-Canadians The best CTV interviews, highlights, analysis, and features will be there too online. Furthermore, its vast library will be on the YouTube channels. Both CTV and RDS Olympics apps will be available for Android, Blackberry, Windows phones and others with the TV versions made for Bell Fibe TV. Monica Platek and Valerie Sardin will curate the Best Social Scenes segments in the best global social media conversions for viewers on both CTV and RDS broadcasts, respectively. All you British viewers out there, look for the BBC introduce an innovative technology from Mammoth called Kinetrak that will help you find events when you need it on BBC One, where Mosey expects most of the viewing will come at, and BBC Three with the help of its sports hosts interacting with the graphics. No word if NBC or CTV will emulate that same technology for those on the other side of the pond. Roger Mosey also adds that many of the interactive elements, shared feeds, and the BBC cameras 2500 hours of the 3000 will be broadcast on various TV and digital services. Plus, this Kinetrak technology will not be present the archery ranking or shooting preliminary rounds that take place before the Opening Ceremony because those events will not even be filmed by the so-called "core feeds" provided by the BBC as host broadcaster.

There will not be a BBC daily late night Olympic highlight package because of the possibility of sports going into midnight, but there will be some aspect of the each day's events summarized and fronted by Gabby Logan on her 80-minute slot starting at 10:40 pm. Huw Edwards, Hazel Irvine, and Trevor Nelson will present the Opening Ceremony for the BBC with Edwards doing most of that (already mentioned here). Steve Cram was confirmed as the chief athletics sportscaster. Mosey even gave the journalists present a sneak taste of the new Elbow song First Steps that will be its theme. Key events that are of high interest to UK audiences are placed at the peak time period for them. The BBC is still resolving its issues in the mobile phone department.

Mosey expects TV audiences will be low on BBC 1 and BBC 3 at the TV side becuase many Brits will flock towards the massive outpouring of Olympic video footage online whereever they are to the sports of their choice. As is usually the case with Olympics press releases for advertisers to buy 30 second spot during the coverage to generate revenue, the programming block will be, though it can still be subject to change, set for the TV network or channel broadcasting the Olympics. Now we have Guatemala as the latest with 5 channels sharing it. There must have been selling of the coverage to other networks to make it as comprehensive as possible. Despite what I may assume, it's not Albavision-owned Canal 3, "the super canal", that will carry the bulk of the Games. Rather, it will be Canal 13 presenting them from 6-16:00 daily for 10 hours with 1-hour daily primetime highlight and review show. Canal 41 UHF going to have a lot too with its own daily 10-hour block from noon to midnight. Canal 13 will have two hours late at night from 10pm-12am (22-24), likely highlights too. As for Canal 3, at the time of the advertising offering, its programming blocks was yet to be determined as was Canal 7's (Televisiete), though it does say something about soccer and (maybe) athletics. For the two days before the Opening Ceremony, Jornada de Futbol will come on the air on both men's and women's soccer reports and highlights if not actual games

Right on the heels at the start of the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Eurosport unvieled its promo spot for its London Olympics coverage a couple of days that stars Olympic legends and Eurosport personalities Maurice Green and Pieter von dem Hoogenband as scientists testing a guinea pig sports fan's ability in absorbing all of the Eurosport Olympic sports coverage breath and depth in all its diverse forms TV, Internet, mobile, and in 3D. This excellent 70-second spot was created by Eurosport's in-house production company Starteam with the commercial makes references to "retrofuture" in a nod to the creativity that the British are famous for.

As I wrote this several hours ago, CTV Olympics was currently hosting this afternoon outside at Toronto's Air Canada Centre the first-ever Canadian Olympic Team Block Party presented by Molson Canadian to start right on Canada Day weekend so Canadians can cheer them on in their send off celebration, one of the things you'll hear about. On July 6, which is National Day in Lithuania, LRT's TV arm LTV will show a series called Lithuanian flame hosted by Walk Stakėnas. The Olympic spirit is coming through all the Lithuanian cities and villages, where the Lithuanian Olympians come from, as they carry the symbolic flam wherever they go from their birthplaces. That was announced during a fun get together for LRT's personalities that featured a barbeque and some soccer to help LRT's summer season with EURO 2012 and the London Olympics.

For the first time ever, the BBC now offers a Facebook app for the London Olympics and (currently tested as a Beta) for Wimbeldon, which really isn't surprising at all with the ubiquitous Facebook has in almost every corner of the globe in almost everything. Bringing forth and enhance the social viewing experience and a live social chat during them, it will have those 25 live simulatenous streams. But, yes, it will be geo-blocked. We'll get back to Facebook later on in this thread.

Growing up watching the Olympics developing my Olympic crackhead habit over the years on NBC since Seoul 1988 got me acquainted with the taped delayed broadcast and have that structured in the time slots it would do--with a few exceptions. I respectfully disagree with Costas in saying that criticisms over the years of the business model Ebersol, and earlier Terry O'Neil, used for NBC's Olympic coverage in a non NA-based Olympics was off base, but I understand why that was used. I wondered when will NBC will ever get more consistent into live TV for the Olympics. That said, the complainers weren't all wrong. The US TV fundamental structure as we still know it is getting progressively archaic with fast developments of technology over the past two decades even the Neilsen company have problems keeping up. Been slow going to get to this point now. It has been refreshing since Beijing 2008, and I give the Peacock a lot of credit in this turnaround come London. I know this is something as a theme we discussed here several times before. I can deal with the marquee events that are of high TV interest to us Americans reserved for primetime--so that complete abandonment of tape-delay is not hapenning nor is the Olympic sports calling from live to tape--because I know there are alternatives online to turn to. So both hard-core people and casual interested parties are happy.

Interestingly, that TSN/RDS Olympics Believe/Imagine promos featuring rower Tara Whitten are still there after she just enigmatically announced her retirement from rowing. She never explained what prompted this, though I do remember reading a couple of days ago online upon her departure from the sport about her taking some cooking classes some time ago. So that might be the direction she could take. It's still there on RDSOlympiques' YouTube channel. On that note, a few new ones have hit that are unfortunately blocked in the US. The Ellen Page CTV ones have one going through Glasgow, Mumbai, and Montreal, another set in Glasgow, Gdansk, and Windsor (Ontario). The TSN athletes promos voiced by Gordon Pinsent and RDS' Pierre Labeau adds Mary Spencer, Usain Bolt (no surprise on the first two), Valentina Vezzali (now the French one added on RDS).

A combined 15 former Brazilian athletes and coaches (and current Brazil men's soccer coach Manu Menezes) will be involved in the overall Brazilian Olympic coverage on TV Record, SporTV, ESPN Brasil, and BandSports. Doesn't include Rene Simones, who will act as analyst on the women's soccer games on TV Record. It will be 17 if Romario's negotiations work out well.

BandSports made its HD versions of its programs available but just not quite to subscribers with the structure integrated with BandNews. So it's likely to stay like this for now until the Olympics roll in. Reading FOX might buy BandSports (and make it FOX Sports Brasil perhaps). Still don't know how many hours BandSports and TV Record will each do with SporTV already announced theirs.

Over in Ireland, Sonia O'Sullivan and Catherina McKiernan will appear on RTE One's Saturday Night with Miariam Show to reflect on their careers and tells what can Ireland's athletes will expect in London. Also appearing will be legendary sportscaster Bill O'Herilhy discussing his four decades at his job on the eve of the EURO 2012 final.

As you would expect just about anywhere in the world that's relatively prosperous, there's a big rush ocurring to get anything in electronics that is supposedly the latest thing in time that a big-tent event like the Olympics will utilize those broadcasters' innovations in hopes of buyers getting them. The 3DTV advent is no different and is certainly a part of that. I have no plans whatsoever to engage in the 3D world just yet. That will be a few years. I am seriously looking at getting digital satelitte. Down in Australia especially, consumers are goobling up 3DTV sets at Bing Lee, Harvey Norman, Videopro, and J&R to take advantage of Nine's (delayed) 3D broadcasts of the 2012 London Olympics. Also confirmed: NBA coaches Doug Collins (Philadelphia 76ERS) and Glenn (Doc) Rivers (Boston Celtics) just were announced as basketball analysts for NBC's coverage. Collins, who I wondered with the demands of the NBA coaching job will grant him time, will do game analysis alongside Bob Fitzgerald, the Golden St. Warriors' play-by-play man on CSN Bay Area, and is excellent at that with his incredible basketball mind and has experience at the Olympics doing this. Rivers will act as the studio analyst. I'm thinking Rivers will do more on the Olympic Basketball Channel in-between games along with Team USA ones on NBC Sports Network and other international ones that are on other networks like MSNBC. In addition, Apollo Anton Ohno joins another recent US Winter Olympic star (or legend, if you prefer) Shaun White as a reporter in London.

Found the second language from Switzerland in the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation involved with its own London website. But it's not French, as perhaps many of us were expecting. It's Italian from RSI. But I can inform you on this: besides Schweizer Fernsehen 2, the other SBC channels involved in the telecasting of the London Olympics are RSI's La 2 (Italian) and RTS Deux (French) along with three Olympic streaming channels. But those three streams are without any commentary. No Romanisch TV channels involved.
