What is China's national sport anyway? Agree with the other's it looks better at night with the lights, but then again, everything usually does. You are making jest of that superb stadium! I think it will stand to be a multi-purpose stadium and not from your perspective of taking on the ground of FIFA stadium. I think that Bird Nest is just one of a kind to be found anywhere else in the world so it's very unique in that context. To me the look is just okay both day and night. Truth is, we assume China will use Bird's Nest for upcoming track and field events, either for China or for something like a potential worlds. Beyond that... who knows. You stole my thought there. Plus, I'm sorry, the place FEELS dark. I mean, yeah, stadiums are a bit dark anyway, but this is the friggin' Batcave compared to others. This stadium shouldn't be called "bird's nest" but "bird's cage". I hope that future architects learn from it and scrap those heavy, thick roofs. Red as a colour of choice by the Chinese predates the Communist era. Their (and the Japanese as well) culture reveres red as a lucky colour - the color of life. Go to the ritzier Chinese restaurants and you will notice the heavy tones of red; as well as those exquisite lacquer boxes. From the pics of the stadium interior show, the signage on the floor of the stadium i the centre field - the bluey green stuff, looks really good. Can't do much with that on the field. - The 'No escalator' rule would make for healthy Beijingers!! Of course with the smog, they would probably collapse at the top of the stairs. But then again, they may have oxygen tanks up there!! Besides, the poor (who sill sit there) can't afford to be picky. - Pull the old 'wheelchair' trick. Buy/rent one so you can be seated in the handicapped section on the lower levels. Mo Rush, does your pet Capetown WC project allow for escalators to its higher bleachers? Plus, what's with all the cables in the roof? Will the Opening Ceremony come complete with hanging of Tibeten monks and Olympic dissenters?
