So I doubt it will be as dangerous as Opening Day after Thanksgiving at the local Walmart's when the new Game Boy goes on sale. Notice from the BOCOG Ticketing Center Following the temporary suspension of the Phase 2 domestic tickets sales of the Beijing Olympic Games, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) has modified the ticketing policies for the second phase of the Beijing Olympic Games tickets sales. The ticketing policy modifications aim to reflect a people-oriented policy and to adhere to principles of fairness, impartiality, and convenience to the public. BOCOG has taken into consideration technical verification and research by specialists as well as comments and suggestions from various parties in making the policy adjustments. The Phase 2 ticketing policy changes are as follows: 1. Phase 2 of the Beijing Olympic Games ticket sales will institute a policy whereby BOCOG will use a one-time lottery drawing to determine ticket buyer eligibility. 2. Eligible ticket buyers may request tickets based on an adjusted ticket purchase limit. 3. Ticket applications will be accepted beginning December 10, and the ticket application submission period will end on December 30. There will be no priority given to applications received first. 4. The ticket purchase limit and the date of the lottery drawing will be announced at a later date. 5. Ticket buyers who registered on October 30, 2007 at BOCOG-designated Bank of China branches and through the BOCOG Ticketing Call Center with a valid ID will still have priority in purchasing tickets. Your continuous bashing of everything that's not Sydney is getting annoying... What happened to BOCOG would have happened to any other OCOG. Never before in the history of the Olympics have the national market for tickets being so wide! I don't know many systems in the world that could handle 8 million requests at once. BOCOG back-up plan is actually probably the fairest option giving every one the same chance to try to get a ticket. You do have balls talking about Beijing ticketing disaster where we will indeed most likely see one of the highest attendance ever. BTW, you seemed to forget that Sydney also had its own ticket disaster (although it was more a poor PR issue -as acknowledged in the Official Report- since at the end of the day, the Sydney Games took place in front of a full capacity crowd at almost every venue) when the Australian public realised a few months ahead of the Games that a large chunk of tickets were reserved for partners... How the golden glow of a successful Games wipes the mind of any pre event negativity The Chinese will sell all the tickets they need to either way - and unless you are a Chinese National the frustrations are non existent. We all now know that us foreigners got relatively sweet F.A. in the ticketing allocation. The average man on the street in Beijing will not give a sh*t about a second lottery. It's a much bigger deal for them than it was for Australia in 2000. However Jeremie - considering a number of Sydney venues had larger capacities, I question whether or not 2008 will see attendence records broken. The only way I can see it happening is if the satellite city Football matches (which in most cases are held at larger venues than the Sydney inner-state tournament was) sell exceedingly well. (I can not be at three places in the same time) Lot of my extra tickets will serve to try to get me more swimming ticket. If I have to trade three Gymnastic Finals plus one Boxing Finals to get one Swimming Final (or any other combination), I will do it. Lot of my extra tickets will be given to athlets I'm very very close with from the Beach Volleyball Tournament. (I'm volunteer since four years for the FIVB Swatch Tour held in Montreal. And I made a lot of friends among the players (men and women)). I have good contact with few divers since I'm also involved in the canadian stage of the World Cup in diving. Same for road cycling and also water-polo (at the FINA 2005) From past olympic, giving some tickets to some athletes allowed me to get a lot of memorabilia from them. I got game worn jerseys, track suits, jackets, hats and lot of others official NOC stuff (from Brazil team, Germany team, Argentina team, Italian team, etc...). And off course also a lot of NOC pins. Also, at the Canadian headquarters, I always found some parents of athletes who made the trip but try to find desesperatelly some tickets to be able to watch their son or daughter. It's sure that if I'm able to accomodate them, I will be very very happy to do it. I'm not a scalper, I never sold a ticket. I know that I could make a lot of money with some of my tickets (specially the one for the 110m hurdles final), but that's not my goal. Yes, it's possible that I eventually make some trades with some peoples here on this website. Why not ? if you have tickets I want and I have tickets you want. This ticketing program is terrible, I am just saying it as I see it. I think that these Games will be HUGE, the venues are brilliant when I did a tour at the one year to go, and that technically it will be a great games. Will it have a heart? For 2004, I applied for tickets directly through the official website and got my entire allocation (rather more than I was expecting!) - we also bought more tickets once we were in Athens. Surely that is the best way to do it. For 2008, SportsWorld is the monopoly supplier in the UK. The situation seems similar to other countries. I applied for 12 events back in July, and towards the end of September they reported the current status of my application - four 'confirmed' (athletics, 2 x volleyball and taekwondo), seven still 'being applied for', and one 'sold out' (closing ceremony). Since then the report has not changed but they have told me that the 'being applied for' tickets will be resolved one way or the other by the end of this month (November). We shall see. tominger Posted November 12, 2007 Report Share Posted November 12, 2007 I really had luck: Just before the agency of the German NOC started its first Sell, I applied for some tickets (Beachvolleball, Swimming, Diving, Athletics and two Opening Ceremonies Tickets) just before the catalogue was online. After a few weeks I got all my tickets confirmed and paid them immediatly. then, 2 weeks ago, I got the payment confirmed and was told that the tickets will be sent in June. Its really bad to see that nearly all of you guys have such big problems in buying tickets. I dont know what they are doing at BOCOG, but I think its not the only problem they have. If you try to contact someone from the Volunteer Department, they dont understand you and just have some phrases in their "chinglish". Volunteer Confirmations wont be out before March - May 2008 - ways to late to get a cheap flight. So this time, I will be a tourist "only" - unfortunatly. NOC Posted November 19, 2007 Report Share Posted November 19, 2007 An update for Australian Residents Live ticket sales commence on Monday 26th November in a first come first serve basis from CoSport Although some events such as Swimming Australia was only allocated a total of 20 tickets per finals session (go figure!) You can buy Opening Ceremony tickets with Accommodation from CoSport now, but it is AU$20,000 per person based on 2 people, based on 6 nights. Crazy Stuff! I'm too waiting for CoSport to contact me regarding my ticket requests. They said they would let people know from July to September. It's pretty much the end of September. I'm also really late on booking flight and hotel. Have people booked a room yet? Any suggestions of where to go and look for one?Thank you. On Monday, November 19th we will conduct the ballot and on Tuesday, November 20th we will email you the results of your tickets allocation. For events that are oversubscribed, the ballot will be observed by a major international accounting firm. You will have 72 hours to accept or decline any tickets that are confirmed even if your total allocation exceeds 40% of your request. If you do not respond within five (5) business days, we will automatically charge you for the tickets you were allocated. I asked for opening ceremony, some swimming, diving, hockey, tennis, canoe/kayak, baseball, basketball, gymnastics and rowing as well as football for Tianjin and equestrian in Honkers. I am expecting to definitely get the hockey, canoe/kayak, baseball, basketball and rowing as well as football in Tianjin. There is significant ticket availability after round 1 for the sessions I chose - so if I miss out on them I will be pissed! It would be nice to score some swimming tickets - however the Aussie OC has put pressure on the ticket selling agent to supply athlete family members with first priority and we are sending about 35-40 swimmers - so nearly all those tickets will be gone.
