Sure they have the inferstucture, but FIFA require a country that wishes to host a World Cup to have a top domestic league which Canada doesn't have. World CUP USA 1994 was the MOST SUCCESSFUL WORLD CUP ATTENDANCE - and could only be topped by 2010. "Could be" being the operative word. But we are a 'primitive' soccer country. So what does it matter that the USA would be the convenient, equidistant point for some 100+ million Canadians and Mexicans to come over and enjoy another World Cup all over again in 2018! Ha!! Can't find records that far back, but on Dec 93, 6 months before the start of the World Cup, the USA was ranked 22nd while Canada was ranked 44nd. The USA was able to advance into the second round in 94. What would be the cities and stadiums that Canada would use for the World Cup, keeping in mind that at least nine cities would be needed? Its all about money with FIFA; Where can they get the most. But to FIFAs and especially Blatters credit, they have tried to help the game in developing areas such as Africa, where the 2010 World Cup will be held in South Africa. That could be stupid, but other than the Russian Federation, the rest of the G8 has hosted this event. As for possible World Cup venues in Canada, Calgary and Winnipeg would definitely be added in this case, from the U-20 World Cup venues list. Cities would be the eight Canadian cities to have a CFL team (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg and Hamilton). Ottawa would also be chose while Halifax and Quebec City would also probably be used. Stadium wise, Toronto (Roger's Center) and Edmonton (Commonwealths Stadium) are probably the only stadiums in which the WC could be hosted whit little work. If roofed stadium would be aloud by FIFA, Montreal (Olympic Stadium) and Vancouver (B.C. Place) would also be suitable host. This would be crucial if Canada is to bid, since the Olympic Stadium and B.C. Place are the biggest and the fourth biggest stadiums in Canada, respectively. However, stadiums in Hamilton, Calgary, Winnipeg , Regina and Ottawa can all be expanded over 50 000 seats (excluding Hamilton, which can be expanded to 43 000 seats). If the CFL is to expand before 2018 (which is likely), new stadiums may be required for Halifax, Quebec City or another city in the country. I doubt they'll award a winning bid that's just going to use existing stadiums in this time of day. Faster Posted March 9, 2007 Report Share Posted March 9, 2007 If Canada wants a WC in the next 30 years this country needs to invest to top tier expandable stadiums. Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal should all have stadiums that are in the range of 60,000 that can be expandable to 80 to 90,000. Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Quebec City should each have a 40,000 seater that can expand to 50,000 to 60,000 Saskatoon and Halifax should have stadiums of about 30,000 that can go up to 40,000 to 45,000.
