England 4-0 Slovakia

England warmed up for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine with a comfortable friendly win over Slovakia.

Emile Heskey met Steven Gerrard's cross to open the scoring on eight minutes but he limped off injured soon after.

David Beckham came on at half-time for his 109th cap, surpassing Bobby Moore's record for an England outfield player.

Beckham crossed for Wayne Rooney to head home England's second goal and Frank Lampard fired home a third before he set up Rooney to cap a fine victory.

Although to be fair, Andorra gave us a better game than the Slovaks! The worst side I've seen England play for many years.

Ukraine on Wednesday will be a lot, lot tougher.

Two monstrous upsets in Africa

Togo 1 - 0 Cameroon

Morocco 1 - 2 Gabon

For Morocco to be beaten at home by Gabon is unbelievable.

Kenya 1 - 2 Tunisia

Rwanda 0 - 0 Algeria

Sudan 1 - 1 Mali

Burkina Faso 4 - 2 Guinea

Japan 1 - 0 Bahrain

Uzbekistan 4 - 0 Qatar (a good victory for them to try to get in the playoff)

Korea DPR 2 - 0 UAE

Iran 1 - 2 Saudi Arabia (a shocking upset in Tehran)

Albania 0 - 1 Hungary

Portugal 0 - 0 Sweden (another excellent result)

Moldova 0 - 2 Switzerland

Israel 1 - 1 Greece

N. Ireland 3 - 2 Poland

Slovenia 0 - 0 Czech Republic (Slovenia is making an excellent show of it, if they can get a result in Belfast on April 1st they stand a decent shot at qualifying)

Wales 0 - 2 Finland

Germany 4 - 0 Liechtenstein

Romania 2 - 3 Serbia

Lithuania 0 - 1 France

Cyprus 2 - 1 Georgia

Montenegro 0 - 2 Italy

Rep. Ireland 1 - 1 Bulgaria (disappointing result)

Netherlands 3 - 0 Scotland

Uruguay 2 - 0 Paraguay

Argentina 4 - 0 Venezuela

Colombia 1 - 0 Bolivia

Mexico 2 - 0 Costa Rica

Trinidad 1 - 1 Honduras

England is probably the best European team at the moment.
Hardly, the Spanish are still tops and the Italians next.

I think England could give Italy a good game but Spain are by far the best team in Europe. We gave them a good game but they outclassed and beat us 2-0 in a friendly earlier this year.

Out of the top flight of European teams I would say

1. Spain

2. Netherlands

3. Italy

4. Germany

5. England

6. France

7. Portugal.

On paper, if they were to play a competition against each other I would think the order would be Spain than Germany/England.

Some interesting looking fixtures in the European qualifiers this week.

A huge derby match which might go some way to explaining why Slovakia looked like they had their mind on other things when they were trounced by us yesterday.

England have a decent chance of getting five wins from five against Ukraine.

Spain, althouh they're the best side in Europe and arguably the world, have an away trip to Turkey; a scary fixture.

Huge games for Wales and Ireland against Germany and Italy respectively. I'll be hoping these two giants will get bloody noses this week. Will also be keeping my fingers crossed for little Andorra. I reckon they're due a win. :P

So, the results of the South American qualifiers:

Uruguay 2:0 Paraguay

Colombia 2:0 Bolivia

Argentina 4:0 Venezuela

Ecuador 1:1 Bolivia

Perú 1:3 Chile

The stands at this moment...

1. Paraguay: 23 pts.

2. Argentina: 19 pts.

2. Chile: 19 pts.

4. Brazil: 18 pts.

5. Uruguay: 16 pts.

6. Colombia: 14 pts.

7. Ecuador: 13 pts.

8. Venezuela: 10 pts.

9. Bolivia: 9 pts.

10. Peru: 7 pts.

After 24 years, Chile finally could win against Peru in a extremely hostile stadium. 6,000 polices had to take care of the stadium to stop any violent reaction of the crowd against the Chilean team or fans. Fortunately, nothing bad happened and the match had no problems. Besides, Chile now is in the road to the World Cup, while Peru now is practically eliminated.

Ivorian stadium stampede kills 22

At least 22 people have died in a crush at a football stadium during a World Cup qualifier in Ivory Coast.

More than 130 people were injured in the stampede at the Houphouet-Boigny arena in the West African country's city of Abidjan.

About 36,000 spectators were in the stadium, where hosts Ivory Coast beat Malawi 5-0.

The BBC's John James says it was packed for the return of Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who scored twice.

Our correspondent says the authorities tried in vain to control the panicking crowd. One report said the police had fired tear gas to control the stampeding fans.

Australia 2 - 0 Uzbekistan

Bahrain 1 - 0 Qatar

Pretty simple process for Japan and Australia to move on now, Japan beats Uzbekistan and Australia beats Behrain in June and both qualify.

Korea 1 - 0 Korea DPR

That group is a little more muddled.
