McAvaney did call London 2012 swimming with Nicole Livingston for the OBS world feed. So he might do that again or another sport with OBS. Still, it's a shame 7 won't do it for the forseeable future for Australia. Read it lost A$40 million for Tokyo despite being in a more favorable time zone realm for Australia. Surely COVID had something to with it. He definitely brings the Olympic knowledge

When NBC had their first Winter Olympics in 2002 in Salt Lake, they brought in Jim McKay as a correspondent to work on the Opening Ceremony as well as leading to nightly features.  Obviously helped the cause that it was an Olympics in the United States.

I remember those McKay Moments segments during the NBC primetime segments' early portion with Bob Costas hosting. Likely around the 6:30pm USA/Canada CT point. Can anyone, perhaps Quaker2001, help me remember did he also done likewise for Sydney and Atlanta? I think he also appeared in those too.

I'd be really interested in what Nine Network's Paris 2024 commentating team would eventually be. And beyond. Given its relative lack of experience compared to 7. I can expect Andrew Gaze will offer Olympic basketball commentary since he's really good with it, for example. Plenty, I presume, will come on over from what Seven and maybe even 10 previously held. Maybe result in some mix of what Nine Network had for London 2012 and the Seven Network's recent Olympics/Commonwealth personnel. Oh, turns out the Nine Network pulled a coup in spending A$304 million for the decade-long rights starting with Paris 2024. AOC CEO Matt Carroll thanked the Seven Network for "its commitment and expertise of the Channel 7 team over many years and thank them for their contribution to the Olympic movement in Australia.”:

Nine Network Pinches Next Five Consecutive Olympics In A A$305 Million Coup Over The Seven Network Starting With Paris 2024

France Televisions' France 3 is already airing a weekday Olympic and Paralympic TV program at 8pm hosted by journalist Carole Gaessler, also an anchor for 19/20, the main evening news bulletin of France 3. This show is due to replace the 18-year 4000+-episode Plus Belle La Vie which has suffered a dwindling audience since airing in 2004. This Olympic show's mission is to "discuss the ambitions and the sporting, economic, technological, and cultural challenges which will make it possible to make France and the Games of 2024 shine in the eyes of the world."

France 2 and France 3-- the French TV broadcaster’s two main channels--are set to offer 24-hour exposure of the Games with 300 hours of free live coverage--a move that organizers hope can help also elevate the Paralympics to the "next level"

80-year old Michel Drucker wants to host a daily Paris 2024 Summer Olympics talk show. And he's getting one thanks to France TV management to cap his 60-year Olympic career starting with Tokyo 1964! Co-hosting with Laurent Luyat in talking with artists who passionately talk about their favorite sports. It'll be his first major televised sports event since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico:

At a time when millions of French are upset over the Emmanuel Macron French government raising the mandated retirement age, Nelson Monfort earns a waiver to appear before a microphone one more time for Paris 2024 for France Televisions. Sport TBD and will be 71 by then:

For those who are wondering about Warner Discovery's new acquisition of BT Sport and renaming it TNT Sports in Britain and Ireland come July 2023 when it already holds Eurosport and pondering on will it play a broadcasting role for Paris 2024, forget it. Just not right away. It will really take effect come the Milan-Cortina 2026/Los Angeles 2028 Olympic cycle regarding the Olympics under the TNT Sports brand after Paris 2024--and requires consultation with Virgin Media and Sky as satellite providers there. Must emphasize this rebranding is only in the British Isles and not applying in the rest of Europe at any point, where the Eurosport brand is already huge and popular:

Also, Mediaweek's Alisha Buaya talks to three Australian media buyers to get their thoughts and analysis on the Nine Network's blockbuster exclusive Australian Olympic TV rights acquisition starting with Paris 2024 and looking forward what it will do with it up to Brisbane 2032 with all the "exciting opportunities" awaiting Nine and brands and agancies as it harnesses its diverse media multiplatform stable:

Would not be unexpected to see Nelson Monfort talking with both swimmers and track and field athletes to complete his sports broadcasting career like he normally does. But his Paris 2024 sportscasting role is technically TBD:

First major Olympic TV broadcasting change for Latin America and the second one worldwide after Australia's Nine Network with Paris 2024. We will not see TVN (or UC13, for that matter) in Chile getting involved with the broadcasting because Chilevision Canal 9, owned by ViacomCBS and prior to that WarnerMedia Latin America just a couple of years ago and second in Chilean TV viewership behind Mega and among the oldest Chilean TV channels, snagged the exclusive Paris 2024 broadcasting rights that will feature the minimum of 200 FTA hours of Summer Olympic action next year from the French capital with Paramount's multiplatform digital coverage along with shared non-exclusive simultaneous broadcasts inside Chile through Pluto TV, Paramount's free streaming service and the channel's digital platforms. Another big sports feather for Chilevision's cap along with Copa Libertadores and the Chile National Teams' (aka Las Rojas in both men and women) non-World Cup games. This won't affect the pay-TV side Olympic TV broadcasting with America Movil still holding that, so the Claro Sports channels and Marca online still get to show Paris 2024 to Chileans:

https://olympics.com/ioc/news/ioc-announces-chilevision-as-broadcast-partner-in-chile-for-paris-2024

https://www.chilevision.cl/chv-deportes/noticias/chilevision-transmitira-toda-la-emocion-de-los-juegos-olimpicos-paris-2024 (comes with companion video with Chilevision's CEO Juan Ignacio Vicente announcing the deal during the Chile-Paraguay men's soccer pregame)

The Paris IBC, 13km south of the Charles De Gaulle Airport and 8km east of the Olympic and Paralympic Village in northeastern Paris at Le Bourget, "occupies a total of four halls (one currently under construction), and will feature a total net area of 45,300 sqm. During the Games, it will house a variety of technical and administrative facilities for both OBS and the RHBs." "Unprecedented" amounts of coverage will be relied upon by the RHBs as they take advantage of the latest and expanded offerings of technologies like cloud more efficiently to show Paris 2024 Olympic video content to their respective territories. Supposed to open in January 2024:

ICYMI. Another new Olympic broadcasting entity comes in the form of Viacom18 in acquiring the Paris 2024 exclusive broadcasting rights for South Asia--India, Pakistan, Bangledesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, and Nepal--in November through multiplatform and free-to-air. And live. The Mumbai-based broadcasting entity will certainly draw huge response for India's advertisers and sponsors for its Paris 2024 Olympic coverage. So the Indian subcontinent Summer Olympics broadcasting changes hands again. Big question becomes, given its roster of Viacom18 channels, will it be multilingual instead of just Hindi and English with Malayalam, Urdu, Bengali, Kannada, Gujurati, Tamil, and Marathi? There are some Sports18 channels that plan to be multilingual, but will there also be temp Olympic channels too? Right now, we don't know the channels for starters. Maybe JioCinema could be involved. Already got the 2022 World Cup and IPL cricket:

France Televisions not surprisingly plans to get its domestic broadcast of Paris 2024 into the upscaling 4K UHD realm definitely through France 2 and France 3, although France 3 will have a portion of its coverage in 4K UHD. France 2 will be entirely in it with the expectation of a definition of 2160p at 50 frames per second, based in particular on 10-bit encoding and  HEVC compression.. Rollout will be gradual starting in September starting first expectedly in the bigger French cities--Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Cannes, Strasbourg, Rennes, Nice, Montpellier--before France's population entirely gets its in time next year for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics:

Brazil's TV Globo had somethings planned as part of the 500-day countdown back in March with its multiple special report programming centering on Brazilian Paris 2024 Olympian hopefuls, how Brazil's Olympic history evolved since the last time Paris hosted it, how the City of Light is preparing for next summer's massive event and its sports legacy within France, Brazil's Olympic medal prospects and maybe reaching towards 500 medals overall:

NBCUniversal raked in more than $1.2 billion in Tokyo 2020 ad revenue sales with 120 different advertisers lined up (20 more than Rio De Janeiro) and despite still being "very early" Paris 2024 ad revenue sales are ahead of Tokyo's with many of these sponsors returning--and excited over new advertising opportunities Paris brings for them after coming off of East Asian-hosted Olympics:

https://www.adweek.com/convergent-tv/nbcuniversal-pacing-well-ahead-of-olympics-in-tokyo-for-paris-2024-ad-sales/

Details for Australian Olympic viewers for the Nine Network's Paris 2024 all-encompassing media coverage are scant for right now after acquiring the rights up to Brisbane 2032. But we can expect most of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games’ action live and free on Channel Nine, nine.com.au and 9Now. Stan, 9's streaming platform provider, possibly might get exclusive subscriber content like documentaries like NBCU's Peacock has, and become ever-important as a destination with a growing amount of content during these next 10 years. Maybe even model after what Peacock did with Tokyo and Beijing while being Australian-centric. While 9's reporter and sportscasting teams have yet to be named (still a ways off, of course), we can certainly expect they will have front row access and action to the athletes and sports played. Venerable newspapers like the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne's The Age will receive exclusive video and written content as part of their partnership but won't be paywalled as non-rights holders News Corp's newspaper roster meanwhile get limited access. Major issue is striking the right balance between advertising and sponsorships while relying on subscription at a time when the Australian portion of TV consumption overall is rapidly changing with declining free-to-air TV viewership and on-demand and streaming quickly growing:

Certainly not the only promo France TV will present for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games! Set to "Mon Paris" with young, multicultural Parisians involving themselves in various Olympic and Paralympic sports at various iconic Paris locations interspersed with action from Tokyo, aerial and drone footage at these locations, with some music and choir performances to incorporate those arts into this:

ORF Sport+ over in Austria was widely expected to face the chopping block as public broadcaster ORF planned to make 300 million euros in savings towards budget cuts over three years. But in mid-April, it was announced ORF Sport+ got a stave of execution and will remain until 2026 as ORF turns its focus on gradually developing and unleashing its new 2024-targeted streaming platform with "no diversity of sport suffering as a result". This means it will certainly be there for Paris 2024 along with ORF1 and likely onwards to Milan-Cortina 2026. ORF Sport+ has been in existence since 2006, so it's seen multiple Summer and Winter Olympics since in offering more Olympic sports breadth of coverage than what ORF1 could by itself:

NBC Olympics and Twitter partnering once again for the American Olympic coverage for Paris 2024. Re-starting in February with all the pre-Olympic content and coverage up to the Opening Ceremony with all those expected goodies. During that, we'll get highlights and medal ceremonies. All under the NBCOlympics@ Twitter handle in both English and Spanish. Plans for a daily live show "featuring highlights, athlete interviews and happenings around Paris." What's interesting about this is that it comes at a time when various news media outlets worldwide have pulled out of Twitter due to ad spending and website errency on their public profiles and content issues:

China Media Group, adding on to providing the production of four Summer Olympic sports' OBS world feed in Paris, "will deploy a production and broadcasting team of over 2000 people and utilize "5G+4K/8K+AI" technology to deliver high-quality coverage to a global audience." Pledges to be neutral in coverage not favoring any athlete or nation:

But we've got bigger news!  Major announcement from NBC..

NBC AND PEACOCK TO LEAD NBCUNIVERSAL’S COVERAGE OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024

Peacock streaming all events was expected, they did that for Beijing.  This chunk was definitely NOT expected..

Quote

NEW YORK, N.Y. – May 11, 2023 – With 14 months until the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad begin, NBCUniversal announced today that the NBC broadcast network and streaming service Peacock will be the company’s primary platforms for its coverage of the Olympic Games Paris 2024, scheduled for July 26-Aug. 11, 2024.

Every day, NBC will provide Olympic fans with at least nine hours of daytime coverage of the Summer Games’ most exciting events, including live finals coverage of swimming, gymnastics, track & field, and more. With Paris six hours ahead of the United States’ eastern time zone, the daytime takeover will feature that day’s most popular events live on NBC in the morning and afternoon. Paris 2024 will have more programming hours on the NBC broadcast network than any previous Olympics.

Given the time difference and following live coverage all day, NBC will deliver an enhanced Olympics primetime show, providing three hours of edge-of-your-seat entertainment each night. The program will take the American audience up close and inside the Olympic day, weaving together the great competitions, moments, stories, and raw emotion for the massive primetime audience to share. Unprecedented behind-the-scenes access, new technology, and the world’s greatest athletes competing in and around the most iconic locations in Paris will provide an epic television and streaming experience.

What really jumped out at me with this development is the fact that E! has jumped on board to get involved as part of the NBC Olympics roster following the demise of NBCSN (with USA taking over that massive role since Beijing 2022) but no MSNBC this time. Why? Makes me wonder what kind of Summer Olympic sports and amount of hours it'll designate to cover. Glad NBC proper is finally and more firmly getting with the program in alliance with many other Olympic TV broadcasters worldwide in showing things live as it happens. All in all, NBC going for more daily daytime live hours is great.

As for Peacock, I'm sure we'll get some Olympic-themed exclusive original programming again like a daily Olympic review and talk shows; I'm really interested in what kind of brand new Olympic documentaries and profiles it got in production to premiere next year.

Speaking of Olympic documentaries, ZDF has a 10-part series (usually going for 14-15 minutes) on the German beach volleyball duo Rio 2016 gold medal winner Laura Ludwig and her teammate Louisa Lippmann as they work their way in going for gold in Paris. Starting their Olympic qualification journey in Rio De Janiero, Brazil, the scene of the Olympic golden glory for Ludwig. But officially kicking things off in Cape Town:

Here's what we know so far regarding Brazil's Globo TV/SporTV's Paris 2024 broadcasting plans: Galvao Bueno will be involved in its coverage as host and commentating in things like the ceremonies and other special programming. Globo TV serves to act as Brazil's exclusive open TV Olympics carrier, although there has been interest from Band and Paramount+ for streaming. Both discovered, in Band's case, it'll lose money despite generating ad revenue and scared off by the astronomical expense to carry them, and in Paramount+'s, despite the potential of raising its still-infant Latin American sports menu profile and project along with what it recently has struck with its Chilevision partnership and pursuing/researching this, couldn't do it because of Globo's exclusivity to 2032. Although both can still negotiate with the IOC and Globo's Marinho family, respectively, to potentially break this Globo TV exclusivity--but it'll become complicated:

https://noticiasdatv.uol.com.br/noticia/televisao/dolar-afasta-tvs-e-globo-leva-exclusividade-dos-jogos-olimpicos-de-2024-de-graca-101610

SKY NZ's live TVU remote transmission productions system deployments were so successful in 2022 with Beijing and later in Birmingham, it decided to repeat this for its Paris 2024 Summer Olympics coverage. Using a single six-channel RPS encoder on location and a six-channel RPS decoder in New Zealand, the solution uses standard commodity internet and high-quality HEVC encoding and moved over 30 TBs that ran over more than 16 days 24/7. It plans to have a second one for Paris starting next July again with help from Auckland-based Digital Video Technologies:

Good to see NBC going live during the daytime hours for track and field/swimming for a European Olympics. In the past. these events are on tape delay to maximise ratings and viewership. Sky NZ doing in NZ is cheap. Nine Entertainment Co. will be sending reporters to Paris on location as opposed to Seven when they did most of the Olympics remotely.

Extremely good to see them doing that.  Never thought I'd see the day where the focus was off of primetime, but they're also trying to make a hard sell out of Peacock, so I'm sure that will be a part of the equation here.

I'm hoping they bring back Gold Zone as a whip-around show.  That was cool when they did that for Sochi and for Rio, so it would be a nice addition.  No doubt they'll be some other programming there as they try and push that platform.

As for the cable side of things.. MSNBC has been out of the mix the last few Olympics, so that's somewhat expected they won't be involved here.  I'm guessing Comcast/NBCU wants them to focus on election year programming.  I'm sure USA will be the main hub for cable coverage.  I think E! will have a big role because CNBC likely won't have coverage on weekday afternoons during business hours.  Considering NBCSN and Olympic Channel were both pretty much 24/7 during Tokyo, that's going to mean a massive reduction in cable tonnage.  But again, they'll point everyone towards Peacock to pick up the slack there.  Hopefully they do a better job of messaging out where everything is.  They handled that really poorly for Tokyo, so it's good to see them reverse course on that.  Only concern is that I have a feeling they'll raise the price at some point in the next year, especially since they also just paid for the rights to an exclusive NFL playoff game in January

I knew NBC was going to deemphasize primetime, especially with Days Of Our Lives moving to Peacock.

Would agree, i never foresaw where the focus was off of primetime, I'd be interested to see how many people watch the major events live while at work. The possibility of people stopping their work to see Katie Ledecky or Sydney McLaughlin in a gold medal final could be  interesting, to say the least.

That’s pretty common down here in Oz - quite a buzz cheering on a swimmer with your workmates.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when we get to Brisbane.  For Beijing and Tokyo, NBC successfully lobbied FINA to flip the prelims with the finals so that the finals could be shown live in primetime in the US.  Have a feeling the Aussies won't allow that to happen, nor should that.  Although unlike Sydney where NBC made a point to show absolutely nothing live save for 1 basketball game, this time I'm sure they'll find some events to hold in the morning/afternoon so it can be primetime back here.

I actually expect they’ll find a compromise with swimming - a mix of heats and finals for both morning and evening, similar to how athletics has also scheduled in recent games.

As for other sports - I expect gymnastics is the obvious one to schedule for US prime time - not that it’;s not popular here, but our medal hopes are rare and  few and far between. As for basketball - hmmm, our Boomers do have a strong following here, but I wouldn’t preclude that also going to mornings.

Beach volleyball will slot in nicely. Late night finals worked in London (and will in Paris) because it also showcases nicely lit up landmark venues, whereas we’re going to want to show off our sunlit beach landscape.

Beach volleyball in the daylight will be a wonderful sight to see, so I imagine the organizers and NBC will be on the same page on that one.

I think that may be a tough sell with swimming to mix up the heats and prelims.  Athletics can get away with that because there aren't as many athletes competing in multiple disciplines.  But for swimmers, I feel like that would mess with their prep if the times weren't consistent.

Still amazes me that NBC didn't ask for any real schedule accommodations with Sydney despite the fact they literally convinced the country of South Korea to adopt daylight savings time in 1988 so it would benefit American television.  And they got tons of marquee events to be held in the late morning/early afternoon as a result.  Which is impressive because that was NBC's first big crack at a Summer Olympics.  Not like now when they've had a long-standing relationship.  Worth noting on that front that 2032 is the last Olympics on NBC's current deal.  Far from unthinkable that could be the last of their run if another media or tech company wants to take it from them

Nine Secures Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

Quote

Nine has secured the exclusive free and subscription audio-visual and audio rights to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The historic deal with Paralympics Australia follows a deal for exclusive audio-visual rights, and non-exclusive audio rights to the Summer and Winter Olympic Games from 2024-2032 by the IOC.

Nine CEO, Mike Sneesby, said: “It is a privilege to be able to bring the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 to Australia. We look forward to building our relationship with Paralympics Australia and ensuring the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are accessible across more platforms than ever before.”

In a note to staff he said, the deal solidified Nine as Australia’s home of the Olympics and Paralympics.

“Many might not be aware that the Paralympics (or parallel Olympics) is a separately run event to the Summer and Winter Olympic Games, and required a separate negotiation process with Paralympics Australia and the International Paralympic Committee. It is a privilege to be able to broadcast the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and I would say a special thanks to the team who got this agreement over the line, particularly our General Counsel, Rachel Launders, and Chief Strategy Officer, Matt Stanton.

“I am also pleased to announce that Matt, alongside his strategy role, will be stepping into the role of Managing Director, Olympics and Paralympics. Matt has been integral to every discussion that has happened over the last few months and is well-placed to lead our teams to success in Paris 2024 and ensure we all make the most of this momentous opportunity.”

CEO of Paralympics Australia, Catherine Clark, added: “Once you experience Paralympic sport it leaves a permanent impression on you. Through this extraordinary new partnership with Nine we have the opportunity to showcase Para-sport and tell the extraordinary stories of our athletes and our movement to more Australians than ever before.”

In addition to free-to-air and streaming coverage across the 9Network, 9Now and Stan, Nine will cover the Paralympics across 2GB Sydney, 3AW Melbourne, 6PR Perth, 4BC Brisbane, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Brisbane Times, WAtoday, The Australian Financial Review, and nine.com.au.

After an uproar when Nine Entertainment Co won the rights to all Olympics until 2032 that didn't include the Paralympics, Nine has secured the rights to the Paris 2024 Paralympics. ABC aired the 2012 Paralympics while Seven has aired the last two Paralympics in Rio and Tokyo.

Been away for a while on this thread but then I saw just this today. Sure it's a little late given that this started last week but we have to include it here given that it's NBC Universal and the celebrity draws to it:

NBC UNIVERSAL SAVES THE DATE FOR ITS PARIS 2024 SUMMER OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN

And here's the promo starring Dolly Parton and WWE superstar Roman Reigns both setting their own can't-miss dates for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics

And France Televisions has another daily Paris 2024-themed program with a dream team made up of several former French star athlete Olympic medalists of this past generation--Celine Dumerc (basketball), Laure Manadou (swimming), Luc Abalo (team handball),  Sarah Ourahmoune (boxing), Stéphane Diagana (track and field/athletics), Théo Curin (Paralympic swimming), and Marie-Josee Perec (track and field/athletics)--that will be co-hosted by Carole Gaessler and Alexandre Boyon at the helm that also premiered premiered last week entitled Aux Jeux Citoyens! ("The Citizen Games!"). Not all of them will be together but will get involved as their individual schedules allow. This program will carry on until the start of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and will provide some fun including a game show contest for French residents to win tickets to see the Games. But what France TV channel and program exactly remained to be seen:

Seemingly inspired by the Le Marseillais national anthem
