777rak
The sad thing is we will probably beat our medals total, but if we don't get the gold at the Men's Hockey, it will be consider as a disaster here in Canada. You bet it will hehe go USA
Fox334
By the way, Anderson is not going to win a medal in the SBX, since he decided to only race the PGS...
jawnbc
I know...except that: Our men's skeleton team hasn't even been on the podium consistently for one slider since Torino. Ditto the women's. Canada doesn't dominate any event the way the German sliders and Austrian alpiners have. In events with fewer athletes (like the longer speed skating events), fewer athletes mean better odds...though not chances. In large field events it's much, much harder. And skaters fall. BTW I am loving this topic *squee* 2 or more happened 27 times in 2006, 2 sweeps (record by Germany and Austria) also there was 3 Canadian multiple medalist (1500, 5000m women's speed skating and men's skeleton)and 31 times in 2002. 2 sweeps (Germany and USA) So roughly a third of events have the same flag going up at least two polls. Torchbearer AA
There's no way Canada is sweeping the 3000m. Hugues hasn't won a medal on this distance for quite some time now (a few years). Nesbitt is a midle distance specialist. She has never been good over 3000m. Lastly, Sablikova from the Czech Republic is a lock for a medal, if not the gold. I also think Sablikova is going to win the gold medal. Maybe Groenewold will win (like last world championchips in Vancouver). And what to think of the current olympic champion Wust? Maybe she is back this year. We will see in a few weeks time during the first speed skating world cup.
Faster
Just to point out the only reason Hughes did not win a medal in the 3000m at the last world championship was because she grazed a lane divider.

Westfale
Canada will win many medals in skeleton and bobsleigh. Even in luge it is possible, because the track is new and only the Canadians have good practice plan there. Dont underestimated the home advantage in these disciplines. Just look to the las W-Ch in luge in Lake Placid.
Faster
I would be very happy if we won a medal in luge (women's is most likely). It would be huge.
jawnbc
Heh heh huge luge! Olympic poetry! I would be very happy if we won a medal in luge (women's is most likely). It would be huge.
Faster
Canada needs to win those 1 in a million medals to even think about coming close to the 35 medal mark. The US did it in SLC (remember the silver-bronze in the men's double luge, that was probably the most unexpected result for the entire games)

dave199
I think we have a very good shot at 30+ medals at these Olympics. My prediction is 34 medals. #1 Overall 10 - Long Track Speed Skating 4 - Freestyle Skiing 4 - Short Track Speed Skating 3 - Figure Skating 3 - Snowboarding 2 - Hockey 2 - Curling 2 - Skeleton 2 - Bobsleigh 1 - Cross Country Skiing 1 - Alpine Skiing 0 - Biathlon 0 - Luge 0 - Nordic Combined 0 - Ski Jumping
dave199
We're gonna do really good. If our World Cup and World Championship performance from last year is any indication. We will win atleast 30 medals in Vancouver.

go time baby
totally agree. i can just imagine the scrutiny and pressure on the athletes-yikes. as if competing on your own soil isn't enough pressure. remember the beijing games when canada won zero in the first week-10days; thats all the media was talking about. Faster
WE ARE NOT THE ONLY COUNTRY TO HOST THE GAMES AND NOT WIN A GOLD MEDAL: YUGOSLAVIA WON ONE SILVER MEDAL ONLY IN SARAJEVO IN 1984. BOSNIA HAS NEVER WON A WINTER MEDAL AND ONLY CROATIA HAVE WON GOLD MEDALS AND THAT WAS IN 2002

IceNarcissus
I agree, we need to give more props to the former Yugoslav athletes of '84. Someday maybe Sarajevo can host again and Serbia could theoretically erase that record.

skscorpion
I think some of the critique is that Canadians has not won gold in both the summer and winter Olympics. Of course, 1976 had the Eastern European countries doping up. Funny, if the countries like East Germany were stripped, there would be a few golds for Canada I imagine. Plus, Canada did win gold in Calgary, but as curling was a demonstration sport, it doesn't count
