AustralianFan Posted September 20 Author Report Posted September 20 Entire Brisbane 2032 Sports Program will now be finalised in 2026, including additonal sports Following it’s Meeting this week, the IOC Executive Board: recognised the benefits of the discipline review step in the sports programme development which was introduced for LA28, decided to approve the inclusion of the same step for Brisbane 2032, and decided that the full 2032 sports programme, with initial sports, disciplines and any additional sports that might be proposed by the Organising Committee, will be finalised together as a single package next year. This approach enables a more inclusive review, delivers earlier clarity for the venue master plan, and opens opportunities to optimise planning with the potential for shared use of venues and fields of play. BigVic Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 What a team. I go for Collingwood who were the last Melbourne-based team to win a flag. Brisbane winning back-to-back twice is something remarkable. Their first golden era was from 2001-03 before the current crop with dominant grand final wins against Sydney and Geelong by a combined total of 107 points 2 Quote

They look a very good chance to do a three-peat next year as well, just like their 2001-2003 team. Quote
Brisbane Boy Posted September 30 Report Posted September 30 I am a Brisbane Lions long time member. Brisbane is about 1,780 km from Melbourne For posters in other parts of the world the demand for AFL grand final tickets played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is such that they could sell out 3 to 4 times over. By the way Australian Football League (AFL) is not soccer, it is a unique football game in Australia My membership guarantees a seat if the Brisbane Lions team makes the Grand Final The Lions have played in the last 3 grand finals winning the last 2 after losing the 2023 GF by just 4 points. (1 goal is worth 6 points and what's called a behind is just 1 point) Competing grand final teams only get 17,500 tickets each so just 35,000 of the 100,024 capacity seats available Having a new AFL and Cricket venue in Brisbane at Victoria Park with a capacity of 63k is a great step forward for both sporting codes At present Brisbane's public transport is nowhere near that of Melbourne. However, change is coming to improve that situation, but it still won't match Melbourne. A new station must be added at Victoria Park to help cope with the crowds for the Olympics. At present that has not been confirmed. In AFL finishing top of the ladder is not the ultimate prize. Winning the Grand final is the aim. A link below with footage (just 8 minutes) from the 2025 AFL Grand Final. The top two teams play off for the Premiership Cup. Enjoy and possibly be a bit confused. Some highlights of the 2025 Grand Final. This is mainly the scoring, and lead up play to scoring. However, there is more to the game as can be seen from the other 2 videos. Then we have the bumps and tackles. This is from games during 2025 season And what is called a mark also just from the 2025 season 2 Quote

Sir Rols Posted Sunday at 09:16 PM Report Posted Sunday at 09:16 PM I was happy enough the Broncos won, but only because I despise Melbourne Storm even more after they so blatantly rorted their way to multiple premierships in the 2000s (at least a few of those were erased from the books). Really though, the win is about as relevant to 2032 as PSG winning the UEFA champions league last year was to Paris 2024, or the LA Dodgers’ World Series win last year is to LA28. Quote

But at least for PSG's victory, we can make a link with Paris 2024, since the celebrations of their trophy showed how much the scenography of the opening ceremony deeply marked the French sporting events that followed! I eagerly await the first scientific articles from historians on the cultural impact of Paris 2024 in France. (I think that Rob had also made the same reflection for Le Mans) 1 Quote

yoshi Posted Monday at 10:12 PM Report Posted Monday at 10:12 PM Still think it should host swimming. But I guess a roof there would just be too pricey when you're building a stadium and arena too. Quote

AustralianFan Posted Monday at 11:45 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 11:45 PM ⭐⭐ “Suncorp Stadium will get major upgrades in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with Premier David Crisafulli promising more seats would be built at the “spiritual home of rugby league”. Captain of the champions Brisbane Broncos said to the Queensland Premier after their premiership win on Saturday night: “To the premier, build a bigger stadium because we sold [the stadium] out and we’ll sell it out again.” Credit: 7 Oct-2025 Brisbane Times Quote
Brisbane Boy Posted Tuesday at 12:10 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 12:10 PM The Premier has harped on for some time that the Olympic Venue budget is set at $7.1 billion. Increasing Suncorp capacity by 15k would be very costly even without adding a roof The extra 15k seats will be the dearest to build, but will be sold at the cheapest prices seeing they will be at the back It would also be a big disruption to the code while being constructed An increased Suncorp capacity is not needed for the Olympics so why put the budget at risk. Brisbane is improving its public transport but will still fall well behind what's available in Sydney and Melbourne. They need a new rail station at Victoria Park on the new CRR line. Makes more sense putting funds towards that in my opinion, and would likely get some federal funding to help 1 Quote

The stadium refresh for the Games he mentioned might be able to be separately squeezed inside the existing budget? Quote

Sir Rols Posted Thursday at 05:56 AM Report Posted Thursday at 05:56 AM I suppose this was inevitable, but I didn’t expect it from The Guardian: Some say Australia’s sporting axis has shifted. Does one city really reign supreme? Really, it’s just the usual parochial sh!t stirring between the Australian east coast cities. In reality, if you’re talking sporting capital, it’s Melbourne then daylight (and I concede that through gritted teeth as a Sydneysider). Quote
AustralianFan Posted Thursday at 10:58 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 10:58 PM SEQ Urged to Rebrand for the Games “Brisbane City region” From 7News today is this report urging SEQ (South East Queensland), including the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, to rebrand itself as ‘Brisbane Region’, to boost global recognition ahead of the Games. The IOC is already referring to SEQ as the “Brisbane City region”. Quote
