Gonzo Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 Cyclone turned out to be a bit of a fizzer for Brisbaneites Gold Coast copped a whack of rain and Brisbane may get some as well and some people will get flooded out, but nothing what a normal QLD thunderstorm produces a few times a year The media hype was ridiculous 1 Quote

Brisbane Boy Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Brisbane 2032 initial sports programme to be decided next year As per Rule 45 of the Olympic Charter, the sports programme for a specific edition of the Olympic Games is decided by the IOC Session in principle seven years prior to the Games, unless the IOC EB decides otherwise. Following discussions between the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee and the IOC, it was agreed that it would be beneficial if the initial sports programme decision were to be finalised next year, which would be approximately six years prior to the Olympic Games. Some of the benefits include: providing Brisbane 2032 additional time to work with its delivery partners to review and validate critical sporting infrastructure projects which will play a pivotal role in the Olympic Games; and providing an opportunity for Brisbane 2032 to collaborate with the IOC to further refine the approach to the sports programme, tailoring the process and timeline, with a focus on optimisation and partnerships, particularly with International Federations. Taking the above into consideration and based on the agreement in principle by Brisbane 2032, the Olympic Programme Commission recommended that the IOC Executive Board, pursuant to Rule 45 of the Olympic Charter, defer the timeline to determine the initial sports programme. Separate to this decision, the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee will have the opportunity, at a date still to be decided, to propose to the IOC one or more additional events from new sports once the initial sports programme is finalised. This opportunity for Organising Committees was first introduced for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, in line with the new flexibility allowed by the Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms and is reflected in the Bye-laws to Rule 45. 2 Quote
AustralianFan Posted March 18 Author Report Posted March 18 Nothing was mentioned and no journalist asked questions about Brisbane 2032 preparations at last night’s IOC Executive Board Press Conference (17 March 2025). It was all about the election of a new IOC President due to take place, as we know, this Thursday in Greece. Quote
AustralianFan Posted March 22 Author Report Posted March 22 New Chair of IOC Coordination Commission Brisbane 2032 @BigVic @cfm Jeremie @baron-pierreIV This discussion transferred to the Brisbane 2033 thread 😀. On 3/20/2025 at 6:25 PM, BigVic said: She is also on the Co-ordination commission chair for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane. On 3/20/2025 at 6:28 PM, AustralianFan said: Yes, that’s true. I wonder who will step int that role? On 3/20/2025 at 6:40 PM, BigVic said: Not sure at all. It's a good appointment from an Australian but there needs to be a replacement On 3/20/2025 at 9:22 PM, AustralianFan said: It could be American Anita DeFrantz who is currently vice-chair of the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Commission. On 3/21/2025 at 12:35 AM, cfm Jeremie said: Have you seen Anita during the session? I don’t think she is in condition to chair a commission, especially one that implies a lot of travel. On 3/21/2025 at 2:29 AM, baron-pierreIV said: Nah. Anita's way too old for a job that -- as jeremie said -- will require a lot of travel. There is Mikaela Cojuangco-Jaworski of the Philippines. Brisbane is in the same time zone as her home base of Manila, so I'd say, travel-wise, that wouldn't be much of a challenge for Mrs. Jaworski. 8 hours ago, AustralianFan said: Anita Defrantz is doing it already and has already long been the Vice-Chair of the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Commission. 6 hours ago, cfm Jeremie said: Doing what? As vice-chair of the Coordination Commission she is yet to travel to Brisbane (so far only Kirsty Coventry and IOC admin have been to Brisbane). First visit of the Coordination Commission is in a few weeks so we will see whether she travels (I hope for her she can do it). The CoCon chair travels much more often than the rest of the CoCom members to meet OCOG and public partners outside of CoCom official visits. Again, since you chose to ignore question, have you seen Anita Defrantz during the Session this week? I wish her all the best but I highly doubt that she could take over the position of chair woman of the Brisbane CoCom. 19 minutes ago, AustralianFan said: That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. I’ll wait to see if Anita Defrantz covers the Chairperson’s role in the interim or permanently. 6 minutes ago, AustralianFan said: The complete list of members of the IOC Coordination Commission Brisbane 2032 are below and I’ll leave the selection of the Chair’s replacement either in the interim or permanently to the new IOC President. I’m not going to pass judgement from afar on a person’s abilities to do a job. I’ll leave the selection of the interim or permanent Chair of the Coordination Commission Brisbane 2032 to either the IOC President or the Olympic Games Executive Director, whoever normally runs these processes. Gonzo Posted March 30 Report Posted March 30 Poor Shark been filletted after only a few months on the gravy train Quote High-profile sport and business identities are set to be dramatically axed from the powerful Brisbane 2032 board due to concerns it is too large for efficient decision-making. The Courier-Mail can reveal the government will act on a recommendation by the Games Independent Infrastructure Authority for the number of members on the 24-person Brisbane 2032 board to be significantly reduced. Headed by Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris, the organising committee board’s 24 members include six politicians, sports personalities, Olympic decision-makers and business identities. Its six vice-presidents are made up of three politicians, the Australian Olympic Committee and Paralympics Australia presidents and Olympic powerbroker John Coates. The 100-day review, authored by Stephen Conry, has recommended non-Olympic host contract membership of the Brisbane 2032 board be reduced to five members. https://archive.md/aLldc Quote

AustralianFan Posted April 10 Author Report Posted April 10 Dare to Dream: Aussie Gout Gout goes under 10-seconds in the 100 metres Wow, how good is rising Aussie athletics sprint star Gout Gout in going under 10 seconds in winning his mens 100 metres heat at the Australian Athletics Championships in Perth. Gout Gout’s talent and stunning trajectory is pointing straight at the medal podium in the sprint races at both the Los Angeles Olympics and his Home Olympics at Brisbane 2032. Not since Cathy Freeman have we seen such an athletics champion taking all before him. Although wind assisted, he was easing up with that 3 kt tailwind before he crossed the line indicating that he is quite capable of breaking the 10 seconds with no tailwind. An excited Bruce McAvaney called the race, just as he did for Cathy Freeman’s races during her career. The Guardian.com 1 Quote
yoshi Posted April 10 Report Posted April 10 (edited) No doubt he's going to be the star of the Brisbane games - probably the cauldron lighter. The only obstacle I can see is pressure, the expectation on him to break 9.58 in LA will be immense. Hopefully it's not too extreme &/or he won't let it get to him... (Unless of course he goes full Bolt & breaks it before LA ) Edited April 10 by yoshi 1 Quote

Snooker joins a longlist of international sport federations who have aleeady made representations to BOCOG to promote / push for the inclusion of their sports in the final 2032 Sport Programme. Quote
AustralianFan Posted May 21 Author Report Posted May 21 IOC President Thomas Bach backs Brisbane 2032 Venue Plan International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has given a strong endorsement to Brisbane’s revised venue strategy for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, describing it as a “high-quality” plan that will leave a lasting legacy for the city and its communities. Wrapping up a visit to Brisbane this week, Bach praised the new venue blueprint delivered by the Queensland Government following its 100-day review of preparations for the Games. The plan centres on a major sporting precinct in Brisbane’s inner north, with a new 60,000-seat stadium and aquatic centre to be built at Victoria Park - adjacent to a new athlete village at the Brisbane Showgrounds. Bach, who will conclude his tenure as IOC President in June, said the reworked approach showed “great speed and high quality” and aligned closely with the IOC’s Olympic Agenda and ‘New Norm’ reforms, aimed at reducing costs and maximising long-term benefits for host cities. Hailing Brisbane’s approach as an “investment in the future”, Bach stated “you speak about investments in the future of the city and the region. “If you have a stadium, which you need, if you have an aquatic centre, which you need and everybody appreciates, you cannot write this investment off to zero in 16 days.” Credit: https://www.ausleisure.com.au/news/ioc-president-thomas-bach-backs-brisbane-2032-venue-plan/ Quote
