  1. there was a timing error a few moments ago for a Swedish Anna Olofssonn at the women biathlon pursuit event. timekeepers held her back 14 seconds longer than they should have at the start of the race.
  2. Tia Hellebaut olympic high jump champion ! Vlasic silver, Chicherova bronze
  3. They probably did, but it's a team who is practising a lot their baton changes. They knew they could have a chance after the bronze in Osaka last year. And It's great for Gevaert: she has won now a medal at every T&F championship: at the World and European Championships outdoor and indoor. And now at the Olympics. It's the first Belgian medal in athletics since Montreal 1976. Very happy about that. And Tia Hellebaut can also do well tomorrow in the high jump event
  4. The Dutch women are winning the most medals for their country: 4 golden medals, 4 silver and 2 bronze. 1 silver medal has been won by the mixed dressure team the Dutch men have only taken 2 bronze medals.
  5. 6. I've been searching in the archives from "De Morgen", but unfortunately you have to be subscribed to the Belgian newspaper to have access.
  7. It's a very popular event here in Belgium during the '6-Day' events in Europe in the winter. Maybe because it's so confusing , like Belgium Congratulations to Argentina, but the Belgian were so close to a medal, even the golden medal. Another one of the few medal chance missed for the Belgian team and with our football team 1/0 down against Nigeria, it seems probable that we won't win any medal, for the first time since 1932
  8. Athens 2004 Medal Table after the 2nd Monday; competition day 10 1. USA 23 25 17 65 2. China 23 15 12 50 3. Japan 15 8 8 31 4. Australia 13 9 13 35 5. France 9 7 9 25 6. Germany 8 10 11 29 7. Slovakia 2 2 1 5 China and Great-Britain still are the winners France is doing well, but they have less golden medals than in Athens (4 instead of 9) Japan is doing badly (31 medals in Athens: only 20 in Beijing) The Netherlands have less medals than in Athens: hugh difference due to the swimming competition (1 in Beijing; 7 or 8 in Athens) Greece, Rumania and Hungary have also less medals: Greece 3 instead of 9, Rumania 8 instead of 16, Hungary 5 instead of 10
  9. Andreas Thorkildsen (Norway) Linus Thörnblad (Sweden)
  10. Terrible what happened to Matthew Emmons, who fired at an opponent's target in the Athens final. He had this time a comfortable lead before his last shot in the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions final. He missed completely his last shot and ended without medal.
  11. Argentina - Holland 2/1; Nigeria - Ivory Coast 2/0 Semis men: Argentina - Brazil & Nigeria - Belgium
  12. Ross Edgar (Great-Britain; silver medal keirin)
  13. Begium has beaten Italy 3/2 and will play the semi final. We can say thanks to the referee: is I were Italian, I wouldn't be very happy right now Brazil is 2/0 up against Cameroon
  14. It's 2:30 AM in Beijing and Safina is still playing doubles. She should have to play tomorrow 4:00 PM her single semi-final
  15. If it can offer the Canadians some consolation: Belgium hasn't won any medal yet and it's possible that we won't win any during these Games. Only 4 "top 8 places" during the first week. Very bad result for a West-European country with more than 10 million inhabitants.
  16. Thanks Sir Roltel for Benoît Caranobe and Sascha Klein Blake Aldridge completes my top 3. Evi Van Acker, one of our very few medal chances, is cute
  17. Sebastien Godefroid will be flag bearer for Belgium: he won silver in Atlanta in the Finn sailing competition and Beijing will be his fourth and last Games

  19. Germany has beaten Puerto Rico 96-82 and will play against USA, Spain, Greece, Angola and China. The other group: Croatia, Russia, Lithuania, Australia, Iran and Argentina
  20. No Tom Boonen, he didn't want to go.
  21. She has never won an individual medal at a world championship. so I don't think she has real chance to win an individual medal in Beijing. And she isn't 100% fit. Maybe our 4x100m women relay or our 4x400 men relay team can do well, but to win a medal will be very tough
  22. Belgium could probably have 2 or maybe 3 medals, but it will be 'lucky' medals: Evi Van Acker (laser sailing) and Tia Hellebaut (high jump) are our main medal chances
  23. There is a more detailed schedule on the website of the British Olympic Association http://www.olympics.org.uk/beijing2008/Schedule.asp
  24. Belgium is the third European team qualified for the men's soccer tournament
