Anchorage 2030

Hey guys!

I think Anchorage, Alaska could be a great host of the 2030 Olympics! What do you think?

The sell job by the USOPC back in the 1980s was that Anchorage was a good halfway point between Europe and Asia and therefore would make a nice training home.  The problem with that is that it's still far from both and also pretty isolated from any major population centers.

As noted, it's a moot point now.. the next US-hosted Winter Olympics will be in Salt Lake.  The USOPC has made that clear.  So Anchorage 2030 is a complete and total non-starter.

The USOC back in 2018, voted for SLC over Denver (& also to a lesser extent, Reno) to be their next U.S. Winter Olympic bid. The groundwork & the "dialogs" are already well underway between the IOC & the USOC with SLC being the candidate for the next Winter Games in the U.S. So as already pointed out, that makes Anchorage a no-go this time around.

2030 probably not...  Things are already in motion in that regard.

But......with global warming and climate change, I would absolutely not laugh at the prospect of an anchorage games in a couple decades (2040s-2050s).  It could very well be the most realistic prospect the US has if it continues to warm drastically.
