I never imagined Zeus having such a potty mouth! What is the Almighty One's proposal for deciding host cities?

Whichever one dedicates him a new temple and sacrifices the most virgins*

* that leaves Australia out

It's an important job but seriously, it's a sports administrator, not the Pope. It's actually serious because I think this is part of the New Norm too, the IOC is now very much just the President. Under Rogge, yes he was President, whoever is will always be important, but the rest of the IOC had function, it was all relevant & there was opposing/alternative views put in public by members - like a proper parliament almost. Now it's a bit like Russia - there's the President, the closest advisors, everyone else in the system might as well not be there. Maybe that's Bach's next step...

Not just a bit like Russia, but pretty much now like FIFA. Where real power, with the (great) new-norm, is only among a select few & the rest of the IOC membership (who use to have a say) merely just rubber-stamp these days whatever the Exco so desires.

If stadiums count as temples to Zeus maybe we should tell Brisbane  Coates

Paris 2024: World Athletics to become first federation to award prize money at Olympic Games

Now, this is an interesting take on that announcement”

Gold medal for politics: why Olympic prize money is a smart move by Seb Coe

The $50,000 is unlikely to change athletes’ motivation while Coe is a likely candidate for IOC president in 2025

Now is the time to take advantage of this misstep to push the idea of a T.E. candidacy

In which case I know who would be „apoplectic“ too.

This is great news about Bach, however there is a long way to go until March so we will see lol

Frontrunners look like either Coe or Samaranch jnr

Just out of interest who did you all prefer as IOC president? for me i liked Juan Antonio Smaranch, i was not too much of a fan of jacques Rogge.

The next one will likely be a woman that‘s loyal to Bach. So either Hoevertz or more likely Coventry, also as a nod to Africa. Coe is completely isolated and JAS jr…oh well, I don‘t think there‘s much appetite in the IOC given that already Bach was like a son to the Godfather himself.

Rogge was a guy with good intentions who failed to deliver, both for lack of courage and for mighty people pulling strings in other directions.

Wow. This truly IS news.

I think @StefanMUC’s assessment above is pretty spot on, as much as I’d actually like Coe to get it. I’m not as convinced on Coventry, but we’ll see. Pretty sure Bach will be stacking the deck for whoever his pick is.

JAS was an old autocrat, but it’s almost nostalgic thinking of him compared to Bach. JAS was like Reagan compared to Bach’s Trump.

I had a lot of regard for Rogge, but almost too well-meaning for the job.

I think it's gonna be a woman.  For an organization some 130 years old -- and still not having a femme CEO in 2026?    Whats-her-face . . . the one from Morocco . . .  or the one from Sweden or Finland - Gunilla something or other.

It would be somehow poetic if Nawal El Moutawakel is elected and then presides over Olympics in the city where she won gold. Fencing Escrime 1976 never managed that! If not Coventry, she could also be up there, yes.

Gunnila Lindberg will turn 78 next year. That alone should rule her out.

The son of Sydney could preside over our next hosted Olympics in Brisbane

LOL. Coates will turn 75, so another one way too old especially since Bach said something about new times needing new leaders.

Princess Anne would be magnificent!

Yes, I think it’s odds the next IOC President on will be one of the very capable IOC women such as Kirsty Coventry.

Princess Anne becoming IOC President and all the attention and controversy that very central position would attract like a lightning rod, would be too much of a stretch for the British Royal Family who like to stay impartial and removed from such attention.
