LA 2028 Ceremonies
Sir Rols replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Ceremonies Discussions
Yet we still get some people who complain that Celine Dion sang “some forgettable song” in Paris (that really was one comment here)… or indeed think a sexy Bossa Nova would work better as a choir. God I hope we get some rap and hip hop in LA. The more gangsta the better. Me too. And I love it when organisers go further even and deliberately stir the pot - a la drag queens in Sydney and Paris. Of course @Olympics2028 is entitled to his opinions. I even like a bit of contrarism . When he first came I thought he had some interesting views and tried to encourage him. It’s when the exact same half dozen views get posted ad nauseum - just dressed up with some irrelevant YouTube video - that gets beyond tiresome and into the realm of trolling. I’ve learned to ignore most of his broken record soapboxing, but if he starts to label anything cultural that he can’t, or won’t, understand as “dumb”, “weird” or “funky” I’ll call him out on it. -
LA 2028 Ceremonies

With what happened earlier this year at Palisades and Altadena (and elsewhere in the country and the globe), I can predict the themes for the OC will be environmental and how we have to take care of our planet ourselves -- and the perfect example is LA28 which will have the largest sports competition in history but staged with the smallest NEW carbon footprint. And a sub-theme of the OC will be mental health -- that hand-in-hand with being stewards for the planet, we have to be in the right mental space in meeting our challenges and that getting a medal isn't the be-all if the other elements in your life are askew!! And that we can all get along -- maybe a reprise of "Reach Out and Touch Someone's Hand" again? That was so perfect in 1984!! -

Open ceremonies can both be niche. The London olympics had the industrial revolution and Eastenders. in my opening we already have an USA etal OC (1984) and an anniversary OC (1998). LA should be allowed to go deep into their weird references. Have a whole segment aBout reverting water into LA. or the flying nun. -
LA 2028 Ceremonies
Rob2012 replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Ceremonies Discussions
Yet all hosts do, of course! None of the cultural references (films, songs etc) we're talking about here are obscure. They're all chosen, at least in part, because Americans and their broadcasters will get them. Celebrities with dubious Olympic connections are wheeled out because American sponsors etc will know who they are and it'll give boosts to viewership. But anything that deviates from that orbit, shows a bit of cultural character, needs a bit of effort to decode, you get some Americans who don't even recognise they're already being pandered to complaining. I'd prefer more local flavour, even it sometimes ends up a bit cringe, not less. -

When the games are being staged in Rio, yes. Why should Brazilians be obliged to morph their culture to middle American tastes for a games on their soil? Atlanta did pick-up tucks first. And all power to them for doing it. The fact you have such a problem with it makes you look bigotted and dumb. -
LA 2028 Ceremonies
Olympics2028 replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Ceremonies Discussions
So the hicks of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil are somehow better than the hicks of Omaha, Nebraska? If the 2016 Olympics were hosted by Kansas City and its OOC had an opening that featured pick-up trucks, I'd write that off too. Even more so if those trucks added to the cost of the ceremonies. Plenty of people have claimed the 2016 Olympics weren't better because the' budget wasn't bigger. If so, the 2016 OOC could have saved money by getting rid of the tricycles and customized uniforms. They could have stuck with more conventional stuff and not just lowered the budget but probably also made the ceremony more serious instead of geeky. This looked dumb: It's analogous to the LA OOC doing a ceremony that celebrates Randy's Donuts stand. And if they're cheesy enough, they very well may do exactly that. -
When it comes to the big “classic” Christmas markets, there’s probably not much difference between them other than the location. Nuremberg is the most famous of them. No idea if they also have some smaller ones in other parts of the city (we have in Munich, and some of them are themed/much nicer and less crowded than the main one). I personally have enough after one visit per year, so a whole nine day trip would traumatise me Enjoy the tour!

What would you make the LA28 mascots?
baron-pierreIV replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games
I guess Bad Bunny is out as a mascot for LA28. I dunno what would be an iconic Amurikan creature NOT already used -- but would indeed embody the spirit of the largest Olympic Games ever (& first Paras for LA28? 1932 - Smokey, a mutt Lake Placid 1980 - Roni the Raccoon LA 1984 - Sam the Eagle WC 1994 - Stryker, another hound Atlanta 1996 - Whatizit / Izzy - a computer virus 1996 Paras - Blaze, a phoenix Women's 1999 World Cup - Nutmeg, a female fox or vixen! Salt Lake 2002 - Copper (a coyote), Powder (a hare) and Coal (bear) United 2026 - Clutch, a bald eagle again What's left? a bison? a bobcat? a trio of kids/Barbies/Kens? a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence?? a baby Trump? 🫣 (the last one will sell in the heartland) or here . . . the DJT voodoo dolls -- they're ready to go!! I'd buy one!! -
What would you make the LA28 mascots?
Sir Rols replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games
Bringing this here from the ceremonies thread Maybe you’re right… but then again who can predict what will seize the imagination. Who would;ve thought Labubus would be this year’s viral collectable, with rare versions selling in the tens of thousands of dollars. The thing is with the Olympic mascots, they command a guaranteed market, feeding off the hype of the games, limited time fear of missing out (FOMO) and tapping into the collectors’ market. Even if they don’t exactly scream “cute” for plushies, they can often work great as figurines for collection series. Take London’s. They may not be exactly cuddly, but they were marketed brilliantly as collectable figurines in ranges covering various “British” poses (Bobbie’s, Beefeaters etc) as well as for each sport. Btw @Olympics2028, just noticing you’ve already posted in this thread, so you knew where to find it. And your recent mascot posts in the ceremonies thread were exactly what you’d already posted here more than a year ago. Why on Earth did you feel you needed to repeat it all in a thread where it wasn’t relevant??? As usual, it’s just the same old sh!t - Yesterday

Milano Cortina 2026
baron-pierreIV replied to AustralianFan's topic in Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games
And the other consideration WITHOUT making "Winter Games Host-2026" quite obvious is that with AI and pranksters, a fake poster which marks it as "Milano-Cortina 2026" could sneak in and take the place of the "Official" Posters because the rules were stupid and/or plain carelessness in making M-C 2026" plainly visible as in the POSTERS of the Past!! So, on that point, these official posters will lose their place in history. Well, their loss. -
2036 Olympics: Crowded Field of Interested Parties

What Jeremie said. They;re not stupid. They’ve pushed and invested huge into sports hosting and tourism. They know that’ll all come crashing down if they suddenly discovered zealotry. -

Doha is hosting a sh*tload of events in the upcoming years so it will be easy to check whether they welcome Israel delegations... and I bet they will. -
Total OT for anyone to address how they wish, if I am permitted. The Mrs. and I are doing a German Christmas Market tour of Germany this year. We are doing 3 days Cologne, 3 days Nuremburg, 3 days Dresden. Id like to think I researched well, but what should I be expecting from all three of these places (politics aside). What are some unique things amongst them that differentiate themselves from the others?

LA 2028 Ceremonies

Just from a sales standpoint, I bet a mascot that has a more recognizable, less abstract design will appeal to more customers at the Olympics store. -
LA 2028 Ceremonies
Olympics2028 replied to baron-pierreIV's topic in Los Angeles 2028 Ceremonies Discussions
https://www.olympics.com/ioc/news/la28-celebrates-1-000-days-to-go-with-youth-sports-and-olympians ^ Another reason why the ceremonies for the 2028 summer games should upend Olympic charter rules. They should be border-less and more international. Just about all games for decades have been overly themed to the host city and host nation. London 2012 or Beijing 2018 in particular to me came off as way too localized. The 2012 Olympics seemed like the UK-BBC-BAFTA games and the 2008 Olympics seemed like the China-CCP games. With so many cities hosting venues beyond the political boundaries of the city of Los Angeles, both in southern California and hundreds of miles away in Oklahoma, time for a change. -

No. J/K. But whenever they present all the Official Olympic posters of the past in a succession, it is soo easy to identify AND place a particular set of Games in the series when the host city and year are clearly identified. It doesn't leave one guessing -- of, it's Almaty 2026 (if NOT seeing the tiny caption). 🫠 -
So? Milano Cortina's organizers are not free to do looks and sizes for their artistry purposes differently from those of previous Games (respecting all main criteria anyway)?🤔

See? I missed that. ALL the past Olympic posters had the editions LARGER and within the main artwork. -
So @GBModerator decided to be biased by ignoring the fact that Israeli athletes were allowed in Indonesia for IFSC World Cup 2022 and UCI Track Nations Cup 2023 (even with the flag and the country name). I know the government did this to itself, but c'mon Robert at least you can put some facts that Indonesia doesn't always reject the Israelis.

Regarding the design, you can clearly see the Duomo and the Dolomites on the Paralympic poster.
