Bid City Sites And Sounds

I thought it would be good for people to post what the bid cities have to offer on the "tourism" end of things. Since I know a fair amount about Chicago, I will start it off with some of the main tourist spots. Most of these are really close to their proposed Olympic Venues.

Rio is quite picturesque and a major turistic destination in South America. Some of its sights are quite famous, too!

The Theater is currently under extensive renovations to celebrate its 100th anniversary, which was celebrated on July 14th in the square right in front of the building. It's one of South America's most importante Opera Houses (with The Colón Theater in Buenos Aires and the São Paulo Opera House).

Rio's Opera House looks cool.
I think so too! It's one of my favorite places in the city, actually. I used to go there a lot before the closed for renovations.

I was trying to stay away from the whole "samba-caipirinha-carnaval" side of the town. It's a shame how some of Rio's most interesting attractions go underpromoted in favor of more popular destinations. This usually leads to overcrowded beaches and empty museums.

It doesn't have Chicago's architecture and Rio's beautiful natural scenery, but Madrid is still worth my first post:

Nature pics of Rio is more exciting than the other ones.

Indeed. Funny that nobody posted any pictures of the Tijuca Forest. It's the largest urban forest in the world and a major wildlife preservation ares in the city. It's also resposible for the regulation of rainfall and temperature in the city. And it's drop dead gorgeous!

Later I'll post more pics from Rio, but not here, maybe in some flickr, and post the link here.

It's boring to read the topics with all thos pics here..................

To be fair, also the architecture I find very interesting -some unusual and remarkable venues blended with more classical and colonial style. Of course, nature in Rio is amazing but I wouldn't relegate its architecture, if that's what you meant.

Can we stop POSTING ALL THESE PHOTOS of the cities? THis is NOT A TRAVELOGUE SITE. It's a DISCUSSION forum about the chances, the pros and cons of the bidding cities. All those photos do is just gum up the sites -- NOT who is the prettiest one. They are all pretty in one way. They do NOTHING ELSE.

Please be considerate. Those PHOTOS ARE NOT GOING TO WIN ANY VOTES. Send them to the IOC members' emails.

I knew this thread would upset you...

I don't care what you think. Many people on here have never been to Chicago or the other bid cities, and I appreciate the photos posted so far.

If you have a problem, simply IGNORE this topic, and move on to posting somewhere else.

I'm not doing this for Chicago to win. This forum has no effect on the outcome of the election.

I simply thought it would be good for people to see real photos from the bid cities to give people an idea what each city has to offer aside from sporting venues.

I don't care if you do or don't support Chicago.
