Mexico 2036

Actually come to think of it, you are absolutely right in that Mexico could host this thing. They can get the money from notorious drug lords El Chapo and Guzman. They've got a lot of cash. They aren't gonna be around to spend it. And it's better than letting it fall into the hands of corrupt Federales. Combined there's enough cash to fix up Mexico City's venues from 1968 and build a few new ones. Take that drug money and put it to some good use. Brilliant idea:lol:

And the gringo exceptionalism

First of all even with all the "crime", Mexico is still one of the most visited countries of the WORLD (and as mentioned again, more immigrants came to live here, especially US ex pats, not just retired ones). And in case, our economy is diversified - actually it's the most diversified economy on the full Latin American region, with a full industrial activity (especially in cars, televisions and other products with value added. And that's not counting how in recent months more transnational enterprises are coming to Mexico.

Now related to the venues, sure some of these needed to be fixed, but to be honests, some of the 1968 venues had been praised for their own sustainability and capacity. These survived two earthquakes and are still functional even today.

And again Estadio Olimpico in UNAM

And if not Mexico City (For the height), Guadalajara still has the Pan Am venues

And, considering my hometown, the recent infrastructure created by the (public) University of Guadalajara called Cultural Centre, which can offered perfectly new venues ready

And although Mexico is considered a "third world" country, it has wide known experience hosting events even at the worst time:

-The first Summer Olympics with venues which are still in great condition today, unless your stupidity and US arrogance can't reach that

-Three Pan American Games, the most recent one at the peak of the bloodiest "cartel drug" in 2011.

-Currently three World Cups, one of them after the original one withdrawed with just 3 years ahead and suffered the worst earthquake a year before the event.

-Having the second largest Book's Fair worldwide, just behind Frankfurt

-Hosting different sport events. This year the Gay Games in Guadalajara.

Sure, nothing is granted and still the bid has issues. The main one is the corruption and the recent scandals inside the sport federations for example. But for the other stuff, bitch please, but this is coming from a biased gringo, so no surprises here.

Busy at work ;)

Anyway, I think this bid will be determinated for these aspects:

1- The corruption scandals inside the sport federations. Right now it seems to be taken seriously considering the recent cleansy (Ex. the ex president of the swimming federation being on federal investigation) but it's early and this issue is way beyond political (The current President of the CONADE for example).

2- The 2024 elections. Not because the bid per se is in danger (Practically all the political parties and social groups agree with hosting big events). This is mostly for picking the ultimate bid city aka Mexico City vs Guadalajara. And then if one of the favourites are confirmed as presidential candidates (Sheinbaum or Ebrard) these are more "diplomatic" type like Lula was for Rio 2016.

3- Competition. It's all about which European cities entered. So far only Istanbul had entered, and while on paper sounds "interesting" there's the recent Erdogan's re-election. If no European city enters, then the match is between Asians. As for now, India and Indonesia are still far away (Although India may came stronger in upcoming years) so that leaves us Seoul. If Seoul enters, game over.

Oh, come on now. For 3-1/2 years? :P So I guess now you must be not be 'busy at work', 'eh'? :D

But seriously, since you last were here right before the pandemic shut the world down, was wondering if you made it through all that okay, but I digress. But anyway, it's not like you've missed THAT much per se (unless 'new norm' spamming is your thing ).

Yep, I've been saying all along that 2036 is Europe's to lose anyway (since they never go more than two cycles without a Summer Olympics). But if no credible (western) European city enters the fray, then it can be up for grabs, depending on who else elsewhere raises their hand. And yes, South Korea would be a strong contender, especially if Europe goes MIA.

Yes. Now, if the competition came to:

-Nusantara, Indonesia

-Istanbul, Turkey (With Erdogan)

-New Cairo, Egypt

-Ahmedabad, India

-And Mexico

Well, better odds to us. Now, with the experience of more events like 2026 World Cup. Still, considering more of these cities are also considering 2040, gave me the thought of IOC to consider pushing two hosts again, or at least keeping the main 2040 candidate on front.

Well, as happened between 1982-1983 Mexico is (likely) taking another sporting event from Colombia with just 3 years of preparation. That time was the FIFA World Cup, now it's the 2027 Pan American Games (Right now, the fight is between Guadalajara and Monterrey to replace Barranquilla).
