Entire Brisbane 2032 Sports Program will now be finalised in 2026, including additonal sports

Following it’s Meeting this week, the IOC Executive Board:

• recognised the benefits of the discipline review step in the sports programme development which was introduced for LA28,
• decided to approve the inclusion of the same step for Brisbane 2032, and
• decided that the full 2032 sports programme, with initial sports, disciplines and any additional sports that might be proposed by the Organising Committee, will be finalised together as a single package next year.

This approach enables a more inclusive review, delivers earlier clarity for the venue master plan, and opens opportunities to optimise planning with the potential for shared use of venues and fields of play.

What a team. I go for Collingwood who were the last Melbourne-based team to win a flag. Brisbane winning back-to-back twice is something remarkable. Their first golden era was from 2001-03 before the current crop with dominant grand final wins against Sydney and Geelong by a combined total of 107 points

They certainky are, just awesome.  They look a very good chance to do a three-peat next year as well, just like their 2001-2003 team.

I am a Brisbane Lions long time member. Brisbane is about 1,780 km from Melbourne

For posters in other parts of the world the demand for AFL grand final tickets played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground is such that they could sell out 3 to 4 times over. By the way Australian Football League (AFL) is not soccer, it is a unique football game in Australia

My membership guarantees a seat if the Brisbane Lions team makes the Grand Final

The Lions have played in the last 3 grand finals winning the last 2 after losing the 2023 GF by just 4 points. (1 goal is worth 6 points and what's called a behind is just 1 point)

Competing grand final teams only get 17,500 tickets each so just 35,000 of the 100,024 capacity seats available

Having a new AFL and Cricket venue in Brisbane at Victoria Park with a capacity of 63k is a great step forward for both sporting codes 

At present Brisbane's public transport is nowhere near that of Melbourne. However, change is coming to improve that situation, but it still won't match Melbourne.

A new station must be added at Victoria Park to help cope with the crowds for the Olympics. At present that has not been confirmed.

In AFL finishing top of the ladder is not the ultimate prize. Winning the Grand final is the aim.

The NRL team the Brisbane Broncos won the NRL championship adding another trophy to the river city with the Broncos NRLW earlier today and the Lions 8 days ago.
