They prepare the organisation of the EC 2008 in Switzerland and Austria. The drawing of the matches will be 27 January 2006 in Montreux/Switzerland. In Klagenfurt they are actually building a new stadium for the EC. What I´m wondering is: Mr. Kallen said once that in Portugal they only had about 10 people of 100 taht had any experience. This seems the same to be now. For future they should hire experienced people for OC. Have a look at WC 2006 in Germany, where a lot has gone wrong. Together with Torino 2006 there will be the biggest sport events in Europe very close together. Two years are not much time, which will pass by soon. Let´s see what will happen. Beckenbauer may have lost very much of his power because of his not so easy job for German OC. Nevertheless UEFA has to choose people with experience for the main jobs and not volunteers. Now you think he should organise Euro 2008 for the Swiss and Austrians. What do you think this guy is - the answer to all the world's known ills or something? He hasn't even got the sense to realise that referees should use common sense. Shouldn't we leave 2008 to Austria and Switzerland? After all, they've only won the right to host it. zenica Posted January 15, 2006 Report Share Posted January 15, 2006 Platini was only an example for a possible consulting person who could help the OC 2008. All big events are held by international organisations like IOC, FIFA or UEFA. It´s not only the job of the several countries and cities to host the events on their own. There exist contracts and guarantees between the big sport organisations and the host cities/countries. Platini´s first job should be UEFA president. What do you expect _ press releases every day and the world's media camped constantly outside their offices waiting for every tid-bit of gossip or information? Especially in a World Cup year, not many people are interested, and even when that's over, interest won't spark up until a month or so before the event. Relax, zenica, the tournament will get held. This is the usual way for events of those public interest. Again, though, this draw is not a huge event of interest to anybody but the really committed fans. It's not the type of thing people are anticipating, counting down the days for or that would get much media coverage beyond a few paragraphs in a details page of a paper whether the OC made a big deal of it or not. I'm sure, if you are REALLY keen and interested, anyone would be able to find out about it _ but for the majority, it's a non event. The whole Euro 2008 is a non-event until 2008. But for Europe it´s an event which will be seen in whole Europe and more. This is not a village game. As in 2004 in Portugal the whole EC was a push for the national economy etc. After OG´s and Fottball WC the EC is the 3rd event in a very popular sport - football. Also all venues, media centres and infrastructure has to be completed. There is a lot to do in next 2 years. The decision for the next host country EC 2012 will be in December 2006. Are the Austrian and Swiss newpapers and TV bulletins full of stories about how nothing is happening and nobody's saying anything? Are questions being asked in the Austrian and Swiss parliaments about lack of action and preparations? Is a scandal brewing and fans are starting to get really worried in those countries? Are the Football Associations of potential competing countries frantically trying to get in touch with the 2008 OC because they are concerned they won't know how the qualification games are going to work?
