There’s surprisingly, or perhaps rather unsurprisingly, very little actual hockey action in it. They show like literally two seconds of a fictional Russia V Latvian clash at Sochi, for example. And that was it for Sochi on-ice action in an episode called “Olympians”. IMO it’s trash. But entertainingly fun trash. I’ve never watched Bridgerton, but I imagine it’s a modern day gay version of that. It’s just an excuse to string together lots of tastefully directed extended sex scenes in locker room showers and lavish hotel suites. I don’t think there’s anything deeper than that. Maybe the plot will move beyond “why isn’t he sexting me back?” In coming episodes. We’ll see. If we’re talking of films examining closeted sportsmen and homophobia in sport, I think a German-Swiss film, Mario, about two closeted gay footballers, does it much better.
