SkiFreak Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story...97-6-.htm#51297 Want Olympic red mittens? Good luckby Elisha Dacey - Story: 51297 Dec 6, 2009 / 12:00 pm Looking for those cute red Olympic mittens to warm your frosty hands during this cold snap? Good luck. The Bay and Zellers stores throughout the Okanagan are sold out of the $10 official Olympic gear, with the exception of the Zellers in Penticton, where a store clerk Sunday morning said she thought there "might be a few kids and youth mitts left, but we're selling out really fast." A customer service rep for the Zellers in West Kelowna says it's been a frenzy. "You know what's funny? When we first got them, we had scads of them. People totally ignored them," she says. "We've had three shipments of them now and they sell out. There's a school here with a waiting list of 600 pairs. All of a sudden they're such a hot item." The same seems to be true across the country. While a spokesperson for HBC couldn't be reached for comment during the day Sunday, Mark Kinnin, the VP of Olympic sourcing and e-retail has told media that the mittens were a surprise hit. The mitts are sold out on the chain's retail website, and mittens are selling for $15-$20 on eBay. HBC has reportedly sold more than half a million mitts across Canada, and a million more are set to hit store shelves over the next two weeks. Zellers store reps say that shipments come in during the week and are encouraging people to call the store to see if they're in. I tried to find a pair of adult size, but all they had were youth. Now they dont' even have youth.
Faster Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 When shipments come in they sell out within the first hour of the stores being opened. And this is in Ontario.
kuri Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 Olympic Superstore will have them in this week. Please call ahead.
memorabilia Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-story...97-6-.htm#51297I tried to find a pair of adult size, but all they had were youth. Now they dont' even have youth. The superstore had plenty available last week (don't know about this week, i was abroad) and i had the opportunity to buy ten pairs adult and youth sizes. I will visit the store tomorrow morning and will keep you inform.
Bob Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I was at the Oakridge Bay store today. They were sold out of the L/XL and children's size. They only had S/M. The Red Mittens seem to be even more successful then the Mascot Plushes!
Faster Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Yea because they are usable and inexpensive, compared to the 15 dollar+ ugly mascots.
nobase2010 Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 The mascots are cute, they are not ugly. The children loves them. Yea because they are usable and inexpensive, compared to the 15 dollar+ ugly mascots.
hockeygirl85 Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 I feel so lucky. Got a pair as a gift last week in my size. Been wearing them all weekend. They are practical souvenir. I had trouble finding smaller sizes a few months ago at The Bay.
memorabilia Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Just back from the superstore and they still don't have any more mittens. And don't know when they will have back... I am also lucky to buy several pairs in different size a week ago for all my nephews and nieces ! I was also a little bit lost, as they reorganize a little bit the store by changing some items of areas...
Bob Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Yea because they are usable and inexpensive, compared to the 15 dollar+ ugly mascots. The mascots may be ugly to you, but trust me the children love them! Just go to any event where the mascots show up to see how the children react to them!
Kenadian Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 I got my red mittens just shortly after the Superstore opened. There were plenty of them back then. I should have stocked up.
