Thailand just got their first gold in Beijing in 53kg women's weightlifting.
GOLD: THA
SILVER: KOR
BRONZE: BLR
Malaysia has a weightlifter in the 56kg men's Group A final later. Winner of 3 gold medals in Commonwealth Games. Not so much of a chance to medal in Beijing.

The Malaysian team beat 3 national records en route to their 3rd place ranking yesterday. Malaysia's best performer (ranked #5) was actually the last person to qualify for the Olympics and managed to get about 15 points above his personal best. A national record. Being ranked 3rd, they managed to avoid the mighty Koreans in the next rounds. Malaysia will only meet Korea if they go to the final!

Just watched the women's team QF and SF. The Korean women were simply in a class of their own! The finals later today.
Korean men on the other hand is a bit vulnerable. The men's team compete tomorrow.

The only way London can top Beijing's cauldron lighting is to have the Queen do the "Crouching Tiger" stunt and light the cauldron.

-
I'm watching the repeats on Astro's other channel.. now showing the part where they danced while painting the scroll.. simply STUNNING!
-
The ceremony's over and Jackie Chan & the gang are singing, entertaining the crowd while the athletes and the crowd leaves the stadium.
-
The cauldron looks great and I think it's the perfect cauldron design for a bird's nest stadium. It looked as if it's being curled up at the rim of the nest... still within the "scroll theme".
-
cool! This is so Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon!
-
Here comes the flame... the moment we all waiting for.. how the cauldron is lit!
-
I liked the Swedish women's cheongsams, and the Kiwi's looked pretty good just then.
That's what I thought too.. nice colors.. the Kiwi shirts almost looked like "batik" design.
-
Huge welcome for North Korea from the audience, compared to South Korea... in the spirit of communism..
-
they said there's a surprise for everyone if the weather is good.. i wonder what that is.. the weather is perfect altho the air is a bit polluted.. the fireworks weren't visually clear on camera..

@ the one,
who was the Malaysian flag bearer?
Great outfit!!!
Azizulhasni Awang.. multiple gold medalist at the recent Asian Championship track cycling. He's down for 3 events: sprint, team sprint, and keirin.
The could have gone with a better color for the outfit.. haha but I guess since the Beijing ceremony has been so colorful, they blend right just in.. lol!

it looks as if half the population of China is involve in the performances! lol!
I've never seen anything that involves that many people in an opening ceremony..
-
painting of the scroll.. how cool is that! LOVELY!
-
the floating rings were simply unexpected.. how did they do that?
-
nice countdown with the lights from the drum!
-
The stadium scoreboad is showing 19 minutes to go. Is it just me or does it really feel that Beijing's opening ceremony will not be as classy as Athens?
-
the performers are entering the stadium to standby for their performance in 1/2 hour... not so much of a surprise, eh?

Look at Korea vs France semifinal.. it was pouring with thunder and wind.. France was scoring 4's and 5's.. and what do the Koreans got? 10's!
No doubt Koreans will beat the Chinese in the final.
