  1. Baku Expected To Enter Olympic Bid RaceOn the heals of successfully hosting the first European Games in Azerbaijan this month, Baku is said to be set to bid for the Olympic Games, the head of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) told the Associated Press Sunday. EOC President Pat Hickey said that he expects officials to “announce very shortly that they will be a bidder for the future.” Baku failed in consecutive bids for the 2016 and 2020 Games, both times missing the short list and the final International Olympic Committee (IOC) election ballot. But with the European Games behind th
  2. I was kidding. Don't take things so serious Frau Merkel ist ein Schatz
  3. I bet greeks who invented the Olympics hate Angela Merkel 100000... times more than they hate Aliyev
  4. I agree. In my opinion 2024 race is already very strong so Baku should better wait, make further improvements in infrastructure and hosting experience and and come back stronger for 2028.
  5. Further, Baku is constantly increasing its capacity in sense of hotels and alternative accodomation, last year opened a brand new airport terminal, as well as got a lof of experience in hosting large scale events and the process is still going on with the upcoming Chess Olympiad 2016, U-17 EURO 2016, World Sailing Championship 2016, Formula 1 Baku Grand Prix 2016, Islamic Solidarity Games 2017, EURO 2020 etc. That is why I believe this time it would be unfair to leave Baku outside of shortlist.
  6. Of course, Baku's chances to host the Olympics are stll not high, however, in case of bidding this time the city must make it to the shortlist. Baku might use some of its existing venues, expand capacity and build some new ones. Venues such as Crystal Hall, Heydar Aliyev Sport Center, Baku Shooting Center, Baku Cycling and BMX Center, National Gymnastics Arena, Kur Rowing Center could be used as they are. Olympic stadium could be expanded up to 80K. As for Aquatics Center, let's say the existing one will be used for synchronised swimming and diving, while a bigger (temporary?) one will be n
  7. I doubt it. This scenario is not possible since Azerbaijan has other priorities too. In the next few years Azerbaijan is organizing a number of other events, such as Chess Olympiad 2016, Formula 1 Baku Grand Prix, Islamic Solidarity Games 2017 etc. with EURO 2020 group stage and quarter-final games to play in Baku. Azerbaijan is also keen on grabbing either Champions Leage or Europe League final after 2017 and I believe it will continue bidding for Olympics putting a stronger bid every time. As for the Turkey's interest, that is not a rumour. Turkish, Russian and Belarussian Olympic Committee
  8. I believe that the European Games is a nice concept for mid-size cities, such as Prague, Budapest, Vienna etc. which once considered Olympic bids. Those cities should definitely go for it. For those, European Games would be a great experience in hosting and organizing an event of a large scale. In the future, EOC should also work on adding the main tournaments of athletics and swimming which would raise up the quality of this event.
  9. I don't agree with this point of yours. Despite to the fact this event was not as big as Summer Olympics, it still attracted a lot of spectators who were willing to watch the games live: Of course there were some sports, such as swimming where countries were represented by youngsters or athletics represented by 3rd league but even those sports attracted thousands of people: Baku is not a ghost city. It is just some sports such as triathlon were held in Amburan village, some 20 km away from the city. However even there were spectators:
  10. As far as I know Belarus, Turkey and Russia want it but EOC wants to move it somewhere to a western European country. This is why Holland was believed to be a good choice. There are still some other western European options EOC would not like to disclose right now. We will hear the name of the EG 2019 host soon.

  12. Now it is time to say goodbye to Baku 2015. I believe it was a great event, a great show, a great celebration of sports and friednship, a success that Azerbaijan will definitely benefit in a long run. Thank you all for following the thread
