Mr Tickle Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 I already thought Sky were sponsoring the velodrome, where did i hear that then?. I do like your Red Bull Aquatics Centre Rob he he.
Lee Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 I would agree that the Velodrome is probably the most aesthetically pleasing venue at the moment. However, I think that in legacy the real jewel in the crown will be the Aquatics Centre. I keep looking at the legacy plans and that glass will just look incredible and really bring this building alive once the wings are down. Can't wait!
Lee Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Always Ultra Aquatics Centre Polo Olympic Stadium Diego Maradonna Handball Arena Ronseal Rhubard Velodrome (I know, I couldn't think - doh!)
Rob2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 From the brilliant Jason Hawkes again: and a shot of Wembley as well http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/propertypicturegalleries/9145600/The-powerhouse-of-London-at-night-aerial-photographs-by-Jason-Hawkes.html?frame=2168457
walei Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 ^ That is one ugly venue. Reminds me of diseased corals, and cheese.
afiqnadzir Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 it call "avant garde"..good job london!
Lee Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 It certainly raises a smile from me. It would be different if it were permanent, but it isn't. A striking building like this is fun and exactly what is needed from a temporary building. The only question now is it's practical use.
Rob2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Yep, completely temporary. This venue has had vritually no coverage, I certainly haven't seen it on TV yet in any news or sports reports. I doubt many people even here in the UK know about it. It's going to come as a real surprise when people do see it on TV this year.
Brekkie Boy Posted March 18, 2012 Report Posted March 18, 2012 Love that shooting venue. And in the shots of the Olympic Park on the last page the Aquatics Centre now out uglies the Tower of Boris - those temporary wings are so obviously an after thought.
Durban Sandshark Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Very interesting. Does resemble corals somewhat but I would add those Duplo and Lego blocks when I was a kid. Helps London stand out. Too bad it is temporary.
Rob2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 Hockey venue coming on, looks like floodlights have gone up over the past couple of days:
Lee Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Here's an article on the completion with some more pics. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/olympics/water-polo/9181116/London-2012-Olympics-Water-Polo-Arena-construction-completed.html
deawebo Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I really like the waterpolo arena what about the OV, is it finished?
Mr Tickle Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 OOOh no shard pattern in the seating though, but it does look good
kevzz Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 The pics are confusing. The first picture shows there's seating to both ends of the pool. And the other shows just a wall on one end. Is there 2 pools in the venue?
Mr Tickle Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 There must be, its a warm up pool I suppose
kevzz Posted April 3, 2012 Report Posted April 3, 2012 I just read, yes there are 2 pools one warm up and one competition. I like the stark interior, grey blue and black. The black seating block is a good contrast to the colourful shards of most venues.
