Presentation Order Of 2016 Cities

Recommended Posts

The IOC drew lots today to pick the presentation order of the 2016 bid cities. The order is as follows:

1.) Chicago (USA)

2.) Prague (Czech Republic)

3.) Tokyo (Japan)

4.) Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

5.) Baku (Azerbaijan)

6.) Doha (Qatar)

7.) Madrid (Spain)

It reminds me of the 2012 lot, with the US bid early, and Madrid last again.

The IOC also released the schedule for the 2018 bids...it really has been a busy day for the 2016 bids!!

Yeah...all they'll do is remove any cities eliminated in June, and keep the order as is...I think the IOC did that for the 2012 race as well.

They also drew lots for the 2014 race and Sochi was first, so Chicago...

let's see who will be number 4 after the short list. If Rio makes it to the short list let say rague drops or not sortlisted they'll be number 3.

2000: Berlin, Sydney, Manchester, Beijing, Istanbul

2004: Stockholm, Cape Town, Athens, Buenos Aires, Roma

2006: Klagenfurt, Zakopane, Helsinki, Sion, Poprad Tatry, Torino (although for 2006, the vote took place the day following the day for presentations -i.e. a lot of things might have happened during the night)

I think for 2002 the order was Sion, Salt Lake City, Ostersund, Quebec.

Quite frankly, I don't think that the presentation order is that important in determining the final outcome.

i'm sort of applying the beauty pageant theory here, which is in both Miss World and Miss Universe a girl who happens to be standing on the right side wins (which coincinedally has occcured a lot during the last few years), which in the Summer Olympics happens to be the city presenting fourth and the Winter Olympics, the city presenting 1st wins. though that just started happening only in 2001, so it may or may not happen.
