Chateau Petrus
Good start today in Adelaide for our two womens duo The other good news is the duo Saka-Rvetlo from Georgia (curently in front of the canadian in the Olympic classification standing) lost today. Chateau Petrus
Both women's team lost their first match in the main draw, but their 25th place in the tournament earned them a precious 60 points in the Olympic classification ranking. No surprise to see the two brazilian team of Juliana-Larissa and Renata-Talita reach the final.
Faster
Just for interest Canada's average medal total is 10, 2 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze.
Chateau Petrus
The new Speedo's LZR Racer will be forbidden at the canadian olympic trials. Swimming Canada took that decision because it's not available for every swimmer. Since the launching of the LZR Racer (wich teflon as one of the element) on mid February : allready 15 new world records (and a lot more to come in future weeks) In Beijing, canadian swimmers will be authorized to wear it, and they will need it a lot to try to follow the americans and autralians who will dominate at the pool (I think Australia will have their best swimming team ever in Beijing, but will finish second behind USA in the swimming's medal standing)
Chateau Petrus
I don't validate the information but I think one other canadian athlete got his Beijing ticket recently. Tim Berrett for the 50km walking race (it will be his fifth olympic)

Fox334
Chateau: Do you know if the COC is still using their higher qualification standards or are they letting everything that meets international standards and qualifications to attend, unlike in Athens? I can't say for any other sports, but I do know that Athletic Canada is using higher standards (its explained on there website).
Chateau Petrus
You will find all the details here : (sorry, this link is for the french version. But they have the english version on their website that you will easylly find) http://www.swimming.ca/docs/Selection%20Cr...criteria_FR.pdf I don't know what happened for Athens. Since I decided not to go, I was less interested to follow all the canadian qualification process at that time. (wich is very different for 2008) Concerning the LZR Racer affair, here's the official release : CN Swimming Trials Update: Swimwear policy mars, 28, 2008 Dear Coaches and Swimmers, With the 2008 CN Swimming Trials quickly approaching, we would like to clarify our position regarding swimwear use at this competition. The 2008 CN Swimming Trials will run under FINA rules. As such, these rules must be respected at every level, to ensure that the International Swimming Federation (FINA) sanctioning as the Canadian Olympic qualifying event, be upheld. In regards to swimwear, FINA rule GR 5.6 states “the manufacturers must ensure that the approved new swimsuit will be available for all competitors.” For the past 2 months we have been in regular discussions with Speedo regarding availability of the new Speedo LZR Racer suits; we were formally informed by Speedo officials last evening that the LZR Racer suit could not be available to all athletes (or even 25%) competing at the 2008 CN Swimming Trials, thus making it unacceptable under the FINA rules. This ruling must also apply to any other suit manufacturer that is not currently available for sale in Canada to anyone who wants one. The Technical Swimming Committee of Swimming Canada convened a meeting and passed the following motion: “To ensure fair play amongst all competitors, any swimwear not readily available to all competitors and which therefore contravenes FINA rule GR 5.6, will not be permitted at the 2008 CN Swimming Trials.” Speedo personnel will be on hand at the Trials to do “fit sessions” with the nominated Olympic and Paralympic Team members, thereby ensuring that all selected members have access to the Speedo LZR Racer suit well in advance of Beijing. It is anticipated that Speedo North America will have these suits available at select retail outlets in Canada by June. We are very excited about our joint Olympic and Paralympic Selection trials competition. The event will host over 700 swimmers and will be broadcasted live on the CBC and SRC networks, a first for Canadian Swimming. The great Canadian performances in the last 3 years has proven that Canada is on the right path to great swimming, and having a fair trials for all Canadians will remain one of our top priorities. I look forward to seeing some fast swimming in Montreal, Yours truly, Pierre Lafontaine CEO/ National Coach Swimming Canada
Faster
I can't say for any other sports, but I do know that Athletic Canada is using higher standards (its explained on there website). I find it distasteful because it goes against the Olympic Spirit The important thing in life is not to triumph but to compete. The important thing in life is not victory but combat; it is not to have vanquished but to have fought well. The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part; the essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well. Fox334
Most unusual to have multiple entries. Well, now swimming Canada has the same entry standard as FINA, so it increases Canada's overall entry.

Faster
What's with all these favourites not qualifying? Beavers and Tonks weren't favourites in those events, just well-know swimmers that excel at another event. For Tonks its the 10km and for Beavers its the 200m. Chateau Petrus
There was a tie, there has to be a swim-off between Tapp and Rob Taylor. Yeah, I forgot to tell about that (blame it on the very very long day for me) The swim-off will be tomorrow at 18h00 Since they didn't reach the A standard, only the winner of that confrontation will go to Beijing. I just got the information for women's soccer. Canada won 6-0 against Tninity Tobago Next game for them, sunday against Costa Rica.
Faster
Also Andrew Hurd and Adam Sioui have qualified as apart of the 4x200m relay and I believe Rick Say is the alternate. I hope Jake Tapp wins, he is younger and a raising star over an older swimmer that won't be back in London. Its surprising that Erica Morningstar didn't qualify, she is one of the raising female stars. I guess she still has the 200m.
