The FIBA will anounce the cities where the qualifying tournaments in 2008 will be held at FIBA's Central Board Meeting in Chicago on 8th/9th December. Candidate cities for the men's tournament are Athens (Greece) and San Juan (Puerto Rico) while candidate cities for the women's tournament are Tokyo (Japan) and Madrid (Spain).

I'd like Athens and, of course, Madrid to win :P

By the moment there are some teams already qualified...

Beijing 2008 men's basketball competition:

- CHN (as host nation)

- ESP (World champions and European runner-up)

- IRI (Asian champions)

- AUS (Oceania champions)

- ANG (African champions)

- USA (American champions)

- ARG (American vice-champions)

- RUS (European champions)

- LTU (3rd-placed European team)

- 3 more teams from the qualifying tournament between:

GRE, GER, CRO, SLO, PUR, BRA, CAN, LIB, KOR, CMR, CPV and NZL

Beijing 2008 women's basketball competition:

- CHN (as host nation)

- AUS (World champions/Oceania champions)

- KOR (Asian champions)

- NZL (Oceania runner-up)

- MLI (African champions)

- USA (American champions)

- RUS (European champions)

- 5 more teams from the qualifying tournament between:

ESP, BLR, LAT, CZE, CUB, BRA, ARG, JPN, TPE, SEN, ANG and FIJ

Based on FIBA rankings the men's teams will be Greece, Germany and Puerto Rico, but I think either Croatia or Slovenia will be one of the 3.

One the Women's side it should be Spain, Czech Republic, Cuba, Brazil and Argentina. Canada got so screwed in the draw for this because we were in the same group as Cuba and the Americans, the 1, 7th and 11th ranked teams in the same group while the other had the 4th and 12th.

Btw, the abbr. of Lebanon is LEB, LIB is Libya.

Are you sure? Yes, maybe I'm wrong, but I think Lebanon is LIB and Libya is LBA ;)

And talking about the qualifying tournaments...:

Men -> GRE, GER & PUR

Women -> ESP, CZE, BRA, JPN & BLR (if they play as well as in the Eurobasket, if they don't, then LAT will qualify)

So that's what I think, although I'd like watching the New Zealand team because of their dances, they have it difficult. Do women dance too? :P (It's not a joke, I really like those dances)
