I registered a year or so back and never got any confirmation... until this morning. I got a random email with a login code... so the Puppy is going to be barking up a whole new tree!!

I hope I don't have to wait a year, too!

:o

My account is still not activated

Yeah, I'm a member there, but rarely post _ architecture's not my big thing. I don't remember what took me there in the first place, probably some mention of Mo's about a Capetown Oly bid thread or something. But then I started checking in when I realised JJ was being his usual friendly self there.

They seem to have had a big server outage or something yesterday _ the site was down most of the day.

There does seem to be a fair crossover of members between here and there.

 It is the strangest site to get on...It take ages to join so I sympythies with you CAF, I think it really isn't all that well run, but I like looking at skysrapers and what's new and up comming, like NZ's first REAL skyscraper, Elliot Tower. I have tried to join the forum but keep getting turned back. Still managed to read some of those "comments" though!

There's a lot of stuff about London 2012 that gets posted there before I see it in the news or anywhere else on the internet.

In fact, the only forums I post on are sports stadiums and the cultural and sporting venues.

But yeh, for London 2012 info that site is pretty damn good and specifically this thread:

I must admit to looking at Skyscrapercity at least once a week to keep up to date on UK building projects including the London Olympics. I am not a member but I have to say that Darjole certainly has some very interesting posts on there. I wonder why he doesn't post more on Gamesbids?

I'm actually a moderator there...one of the problems is the spammers. Everyday, there are newbies that post porn links or try to sell stuff, things like: "BUY BRAND NEW HTC X7500 AT $250USD,TYTN II AT $210USD,P3350 AT $200USD" or "Paris hilton free blowjob".

So in the past few months, they've changed it up quite a bit in how people register. It now requires admin confirmation i think.

If you get turned back, it's probably because the forum program has detected you have multiple accounts.

Doesnt explain why it took a year to get the confirmation - as it was with me. All due respect - you are a moderator? What are you now - 16? 17? I hope you are fair and not a mini tyrant! By the way I am still waiting for your 2026 World Cup bid. After all the water under the bridge X, surely its time to join in the games again??

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I'm curious to see if this happens quiet often at Skyscrapercity...

I joined Skyscrapercity weeks ago because I've been reading some of the threads there for months and thought I should register in case I ever wanted to post my opinion on whatever matter. Well today, I decided to post in one of their Beijing 2008 update topics. I posted something to the extent that although the venues look spectacular, things like the pollution and politics would prevent the games from being remembered for the sport and atmosphere; the opposite of the usual "OMG, the venues are amazing, best Olympics ever!" type of post that jam the Beijing threads. Later, I received a PM from a moderator saying that I was banned for days because I registered just for trolling around and my post was deleted. Another member then posted in the same thread an article about what's happening in Tibet at the moment and that was also deleted.

Ok, I understand my opinion could cause debate, but still, isn't that the point of an internet forum?

I get the impression that at SC, any, slightly, controversial, debate-provoking thing said (however valid and true it may be) is labeled as "just trolling around" and a disturbance to the forums by the administration.

So anyways, for any members of Skyscrapercity here on GB, have things like this happened to you or have you seen things like this happen?

Thanks.

I was reading your post and i thought hey i know this name and avatar... Well the skyscrapercity is a fantastic forum when it comes to construction issues or issues about traveling, langscape etc. When it comes to political issues the moderators are very sensible and unfortunately take some times "strange" decisions. Even in the european section "DLM" the "talk about everything" section issues like Kosovo or FYROM are "tabus" and the moderators delete or close threads about this issues.

Are you banned or on the briglist?
