mr.x
lol, they couldn't book the Orpheum? or even the Chan Centre and Performing Arts Centre?
Kenadian
Selecting the "Bell" Performing Arts Centre is obviously a play to a big Games sponsor. But I wonder if Surrey was selected for its multicultural aspects?

baron-pierreIV
Have taichi and Tanaka been alerted? They're the ones who can't keep their pants dry until the mascots, and the pictograms, and the medals, etc., etc., have all rolled out.
NYCD 2012
Lols ! I hoping its a good one. There have been many disapointment recently in terms of LOGOS and MASCOTS
Olympian2004
I have a certain sensation that it will be two mascots again -- just as in Torino. It would also link to Calgary 1988, with Hidy and Howdy. Maybe this time, we'll have Shity and Shouty, the two obnoxious seagulls? However, I'm fearing the worst. The mascots of the past years (including those of the World Cup and the EURO, maybe only with the exception of Beijing's cute little panda) were ugly enough to kill my optimism. Athan
I'm almost sure they will be great! At least if they are in the way the logo is... I really like Ilanaaq

rav3n
I don't have much expectations for this mascot, but we must wait and see, maybe they would bring us a surprise. I'm hoping they return to the clasic 80's designs for the mascots and they leave behind these abstract designs that have been a failure over this last years. baron-pierreIV
Cobi was good. Ehhhh. Cute but flat. Kinda one-dimensional. Of the last 6 Games, Coal, Powder and Snow of Salt Lake were among the best. I mean, they were real animals indigenous to the region. I got an "A" in my French class for my 'show-and-tell' on those 3!!!

mr.x
i read somewhere that VANOC tested their "product" to hundreds of people of all ages - kids, teens, and adults - and they received positive reviews.

baron-pierreIV
Thats what they said about the logo too. So we will see a plush, furry Ilanaag? Maybe it's the same focus group - children and relatives of the prospective toy makers?
mr.x
Thats what they said about the logo too. they didn't. with the logo, all they did was show it to the VANOC staff...and they were questioning whether it was the right logo. Kenadian
The logo was the result of a design competition (it was London, not Vancouver, that said they market tested their logo). Only the 9 judges had a say over the 1600 individually submitted designs (the vast majority of which I would guess were crap done in Paint or Word ClipArt, judging by the "submit your own 2012 logo" contests found all over the blogosphere). The mascot was the result of a request for proposal search for the designer (not the design) and would have been handled in a more professional manner - with facilitated discussion groups and an inclusive concept development process. Still, I'm never really keen on mascots. I don't have big expectations for this one either. But will hold off until it is actually launched.
