rav3n
Congrats to the brazilians, after demonstrate to the world their football supremacy, they deserved to host the World Cup again (as a south american i feel glad for it). Altought i'm now having some doubts with 2016 olympic candidacy. The WC would help very much on getting great part of the infrastructure on Rio at time, but hosting a major event just two years before another one could be of no like for the IOC. I think that was the mortal hit to Pyeongchang at the Winter games bid (not mentioning Russian influence), because Korea won in just months the 2011 IAAF World Championships in Athletics and the 2014 Asian Games. But anyway, there are exceptions, like USA 94 and Atlanta 96 two-years difference.
baron-pierreIV
But anyway, there are exceptions, like USA 94 and Atlanta 96 two-years difference. However, Atlanta was not a WC-94 host city, therefore was able to concentrate fully on its own preps for the '96 Games. There were 2 TOTALLY different Org Committees handling the '94 and '96 events. PLUS, the '94 sponsors were not the same ones who had to ante up more gazillions for 1996. BIG difference, rav3n.

I think the main issue will indeed be the sponsors. I am not sure Brazil could have enough domestic sponsors for both the WC and the Olympics (although, my understanding of the WC is that it doesn't rely that much on local sponsors). As for Rio being a WC host city, it could be seen as an asset as the Olympics would benefit from the investment made for the WC in Rio (I am thinking about transport and accommodation infrastructures in particular). rioooo2016
As if I had any intention of going. I wouldn't waste my money on your country. Come on Baron. Nothing better than a mind-changed foreigner when he visits my city I have lived all my life in Rio and it doesn't cease to amaze me, what could I say about people like you! I'm pretty sure you'd be in the 98% of the visitors who say that will come back to Rio. If you arrive in the Air Shuttle, don't forget to ask for a window seat. The view from the Sugar Loaf is astonishing.

enoch
Why Brazil? why Rio?1- never in south America; 2 -fiveth population in the world; 3 - be in Bric (Brazil, Russia, India and China) most import nations in the development world in the 21th century by goldman sachs; 4 -Ecology (Rain forest, Water, biodiversity); 5- Race Diversity (white, Black , Indians ) Global people; 6 - Beautiful city sorry but beauty is important to me; 7 - Other culture not the same U. S. and European Culture sorry, but I don´t speak english very well These are all very good reasons _ but are irrelevant at the moment. Rio's first task if it wants the games is to make the shortlist, and these sentimental points play no part in that. It is all about the cities' technical capabilities. Rio must work hard now to put together a technical bid plan good enough to get it on the short list. After that, if they make the cut, it can play all these cards as hard as it wants. Until then, they mean nothing. Amen.

As a tourist destination, Rio has a lot to offer, but the city still lacks infra-structure improvements that SHOULD be done regardless of the Olympic bid. Before someone starts to throw stones on me, I know that a couple of brazilian states capital has the same problems, as Sao Paulo, Recife, Brasilia etc. so it´s not a particular problem of Rio, but a national problem of bad city management
