arwebb
What worried me was that we didn't really play for at least 40 minutes. There were at least two occasions when we went for drops at goal rather than running the ball as we should have done and we did not use the backs enough. You're right we took our chance, but the fact it came so late is a concern. Then again, I'd rather be in our position than the French.
Rob2012
Yeah, that intercepted drop-goal attempt from Wilkinson was dissapointing. I thought we were on for a try at that moment.
Scotguy
oh man what a game, watched it at the fanzone in wellington We deserved to win that game, but we TOTALLY deserved to go out of the cup. We should have came second in the group, England deserve the top place, we now need to look at getting those tries. Great game though and as always the auld rivalry doesnt disappoint. Is it not the case that the chickens in Scottish rugby have now come home to roost? Despite good results like beating South Africa and Australia at home or winning a Test series in Argentina earlier this year, the fact is that Scotland have consistently failed to perform on the biggest stages of the World Cup and the Six Nations Championship for well over a decade. I know Ireland and Wales both won Grand Slams in the two years after they went out of the 2007 World Cup at the pool stages, but it's hard to see Scotland doing the same thing in the next year or two. Brekkie Boy
Great morning of rugby today - and sets up the knock-out stages nicely assuming Italy don't cause an upset tomorrow to guarantee a North v South final with all-European and all-Southern Hemisphere halves of the draw. Alexjc
The last day of Pool matches, and the country's participation...Apart from Wellington's two QF matches, it's all Auckland's show now. Nice having you here world.
Alexjc
BOMBSHELL!!!!!! BREAKING NEWS! All Black's Dan Carter is out of the Rugby World Cup...Due to a severe Groin injury sustain in practise this week. Aaron Cruden has been rushed into the squad as a replacement - Very capiable player and Carter's natural successor! Suddenly Australia's chances to win the event have surged foward! arwebb
Bodyblow for New Zealand. I know they have tremendous strength in depth but if there is one player they can't really afford to lose, surely it's Carter.

arwebb
The glimmer soon died. If only the drip-drip of claims and allegations against the England squad would endure a similar fate. It may well be that some of our players have done things they won't be proud of. But it's also clear the tabloid press is out to get rugby and rugby players at the moment in the same way that they've gone after footballers and cricketers in the past. Why is our country full of stupid people who buy this crap?
Alexjc
Canada v New Zealand underway.... Not use to the all Blacks playing in daylight! Canada first on the board 3 - 0, but All Black try fest now underway.

Alexjc
The atmosphere has gone flat at the moment, the last day of Pool matches, the 'fun' teams are going home. ...and of course, Dan Carter out of the event. Really, Cater, McCaw and Williams were the stars of NZ's World Cup hopes. McCaw will be fit for next week's Argentina game, and Sonny-Bill Williams is just comming into form right when he is needed....But losing Dan Carter has thrown a Mechanics Tool Box full of spanners in the works. The dejected and stern look on Graham Henry's face say's it all. The Coaching team will be working over the next six days to re-jig the All Black's game plan. arwebb
I think Carter's absence certainly narrows the gap between New Zealand and the rest. They should still beat Argentina comfortably enough, but a semi-final against Australia or South Africa will be a humdinger of a game.
Brekkie Boy
Losing Carter is a real blow for the All Blacks and the World Cup as a whole, but really the tournament has kicked into gear this weekend with some great performances (and not so great performances - France, I'm looking at you!) and can't wait for the knock-out stages next week. Alexjc
IMO the 'Round of Sixteen' needs to be inaugriated in 2015. Four pools of six teams would do it. Great that the third place in the pool getter qualifies for '15, but at least give the second tier a worth while event.
arwebb
If we're going to go to 24 teams, surely it has to be six groups of four, rather than having extra games with four groups of six.
Brekkie Boy
Oh god no - it's perfect as it is. 4 guaranteed games, usually 2 of which are competitive for the top nations, then the top 8 into the quarters and straight into the action with competitive games throughout the knock-out stages. Having New Zealand v Georgia in a Round of 16 wouldn't do anyone any favours.

Sir Rols
The IRB needs to think carefully before making too many changes. A round of 16 added would just bring the knockout rounds back to what the entire tournament was - 16 nations - before 1999. And expanding to 24 basically means four more minnows - and really up to this year, the minnow games and mismatches were a bit of a controversial debating topic. Okay, this time round at the tournament it seems like the gap between the powers and minnows has narrowed a bit, but I think it might be a bit premature to think of expanding just yet. I think it'd be probably best to wait a while and see how the game grows in some of its new markets, and see if Rugby's inclusion in the Olympics from 2016 gives it a bit of a further development boost. Maybe from about 2027 on it might be time to think about the next stage of the WCs evolution.

Having New Zealand v Georgia in a Round of 16 wouldn't do anyone any favours. But, as the tournament chief executive (and former New Zealand international cricketer) Martin Snedden has admitted, the schedule of the tournament has to change in future if the structure remains as it is to give all teams similar recovery and preparation time. The system we have at the moment is obviously unfair to the smaller nations and it needs to be addressed.
Alexjc
A really nasty Spat between the IRB and NZRU is beginning to reveal it's self today. All has to do with costs and development issues over the less wealthy rugby unions...which includes NZ. The nzru says it simply costs too much to send teams over to the six nations and demands that profit sharing be allowed at the gate. Top level teams such as NZ and Australia are BIG drawcards and considering the reciprocating tours seldom have any benefits, they have a point. Teams such as Samoa or Tonga can barely afford to tour yet are popular. To host the few dignitries of IRB members here for the RWC has cost the nzru and NZ tax payer@ $5million alone.
