This is ominous, Australia are odds on favorite to easly make it to the final of RWC. This weekend it's Bledesloe Cup time and the Wallabies are determined to end their 11 match losing streak in NZ and 25 year losing streak on Eden Park. The All Blacks will really need to lift their match technique, which they will. Deans v Henry 2011 begins Well, a lot of back-patting here over the result. ITV1 will screen more games than usual, including all home nation group games live, whilst ITV4 only really screens games that clash with breakfast/morning shows during the week. ITV4 will have nightly highlights around 7pm, with them on ITV1 around 11.30pm on weeknight, 4.30pm or so at weekends. The All Blacks were only 80% running, but surprisingly it was the more nimble players that scored the points. A few points - It will be an opening celebration spanning 10 hours from the Viaduct Harbour through Quay Street and to Queens Wharf - It will start at 4pm with the entrance into the harbour of 20 waka each manned by 30 people - Dave Dobbyn will sing *Welcome Home* to welcome the RWC back home to New Zealand - A mass Haka by the 600 paddlers will be followed by an 80minute concert on Queens Wharf by The Finn Brothers - The Official Opening Ceremony at Eden Park will be 20minutes long. - Followed will be a 12 minute pyro and lighting display, the biggest ever held in New Zealand. City buildings and landmarks will be used for lighting displays. - Following the opening match, Midnight Youth and Dane Rumble will entertain through to 2am. Looks like a good event they are planning, mixing the stadium opening with the city opening. John Farnham anyone (heck, his influence even stretches here, your the voice was my graduation song at high school, lol). Im more peaved at how Hayley Westenra always seems to be the one to get the money jobs. I see she will be doing a version of World in Union for the ITV coverage in the UK. Canada is a mid-nation in rugby and its in a decline here unfortunately (it was dropped from the Canada Games due to a huge drop in participation numbers). The Wynyard Quarter Development officially opened on the waterfront and going by the footage and photos I've seen,the area looks fantastic and is set to be a popular one. We also had the biggest test of Eden Park and it looks like by and large it turned out well. Though when it comes down to it, the full 15man game. Im thinking probably Fiji would be one of the few places in the world where the 7 man Game is the most popular. In success, it would be Rugby as the Sevens is seen as a high speed abbreviation of the game, and the fact it's a global circut tournament sport with the NZ Sevens side only ever home in February each year. A good result on Saturday night, New Zealand 30 v Australia 14...But both sides fairly even in strength and tactics. Would have almost been a draw if Austalia got all it's penalties and conversions over. Wallabies did have the majority of territory posession but just couldn't break through the All Black defences. It has been an absolute PR disaster for Adidas who insist that their NZ$250.00 price was fair and the overseas online stores undervalued the jersey. Anger from fans worsened when Adidas forced many overseas online retailers to remove New Zealand from their AB jersey purchasing nations. Well done Rebel Sport. RWC11 are now only 250k off their target. However sad news for Christchurch's AMI Stadium. The report is in. It may be too expensive to repair in-situ, the Hadlee Stand is to be demolished immediately. The southe end Tui Stand has faired the best but the two main stands have been structually compromised. The technology avalible to repair the resonalbly new structures is costly and the cost/benefit ratio favours a knock down rebuild - and probibly elsewhere. Insurance companies, including AMI, who's name is on the stadium are reluctant to cover the facility. (Personally, I always thought the 90's built Hadlee Stand an unusual structure, built when Lancaster Park was a cricket ground, more a Canterbury elite's gin palace. It looks out of place in AMI Stadium now, ruining it's oval shape.) Christchurch does need a main stadium as QEII Park is also to be demolished and Addington Racecourse is in demolition now.
