Techno Dragon
I'm curious, but why did Rome allow there Velodrome to waste away in dramatic fashion, instead of redeveloping the site? Anyone from Italy care to divulge?

Rei
From what I've heard the ancient velodrome will be replaced by a new aquatic center.
Guardian
Do you mean the same aquatic center that will be used for the 2009 FINA World Championships?
Rei
No. This one is gonna be a sort of wealthness-swimming center. Nothing to do with those of Calatrava which is far by the center and undercostruction.
Guardian
I see. Can you remind on what is the venue for the mentioned FINA World Championships is going to be held?
baron-pierreIV
I see. Can you remind on what is the venue for the mentioned FINA World Championships is going to be held? If you dig up the old "Rome" file (or it might be under anothe heading), I think the 2009 venue Rei is referring to will be a brand new facility in a sort of major sports park grand master plan. Rei
I found only this render about the recovering plan for the velodrome which is located on the south of the city inside the thierties complex of EUR. While the future sport city planned by Calatrava is located on the east suburbs of the city (Tor Vergata). The new sport center, mostly dedicated to swimming/wealthness/post-injury activities, will surround and integrate the velodrome and not completely substitute it as I initially said. So the old velodrome should be recovered and not replaced. This should be the winning project for residences and facilities for the area by Nemesi Arch. Rei
Goodbye to a piece of Roma 1960. The old olympic Velodrome, built in 1959, imploded today. In place of it, as mentioned in previous posts, will be built a new multifunctional sport-wealthness center. As it looked in the 60s
Guardian
Well, a dramatic way to end a former Olympic venue. Not like the way another former Olympic velodrome of another former Olympic host city became.
Rei
The substitute.
LA84
Well, a dramatic way to end a former Olympic venue. Not like the way another former Olympic velodrome of another former Olympic host city became. Are you speaking of Montreal? The best reuse of what is essentially an expensive, later on worthless sports venue I have ever seen.
