skicross 0
Hi! Although this message is mainly adressed to Thatsnotmypuppy and cfmJeremie, I encourage everybody to read it. Some days ago I was able to visit the "Instituto Bibliografico Aragones", I mean, the "Library of Aragon". I was looking for some olympic documents that I have been researching on. There, I found many insteresting documents: firstly, the Jaca 92 and Jaca 98 Dossiers. And what is more surprising, the Jaca 94 Dossier! I had never read or heard about the desire of Jaca of hosting the 1994 WOG. In my blog you can find pics and more info about this (Jaca 98 not yet). Maybe I could get a complete copy of the documents to send you for the Bid Libary. These are the links to the articles: Jaca '92 (I) Jaca '92 (II) Jaca '94 Edited August 20, 2009 by skicross

NYCD 2012 3
Hey Troy, by any chance, will you be putting up any documents on the Belgrade bids of 1992 & 1996 as well as the prelim bid Taskhent 2000 ? (:
thatsnotmypuppy 559
Belgrade 1996 is on the list - 1992 I dont know - I'll ask Jeremie. As for Tashkent I have searched and searched - no joy. Basically the produced one brochure and a questionnaire - thats it. I'd love to though! It is one bid I am really, really interested in! memorabilia 80
Quick update - I've started uploading the bits and pieces of 2018 brochures I have and thanks to a certain Frenchman in Switzerland - The Paris 1992 Bid Book In other news I should be heading back up to Sydney next year for work so there will be frequent uploads. So head over to The Bid Library and have a look. Regarding the Annecy 2018's brochure, we should know that : - the French version was issued during the French Internal Applicant Phase - the English version has been issued for the beginning of the actual IOC Applicant Phase
RiceXIX 2
Hey do you have anything on Salt Lake 2002, 1998, or 1972? I have been looking and haven't been very lucky....
Brekkie Boy 73
Had a browse through some of these at the weekend - thanks so much for the effort of uploading them. Birmingham 1992 and Manchester 2000 of particular interest to me - had never seen anything of Birmingham's proposed Olympic Stadium before, and fairly strange the proposal was to convert it into an exhibition space rather than to a football ground or something. Neither bids seems anything special though - reading the Paris 1992 bid book Birmingham just didn't compete IMO, whilst as stated Manchester never stood a chance against Beijing and Sydney. In a way it was a shame it was decided that London was the UK's only chance of staging the games as I do think with the right proposal both Birmingham and Manchester (and even Glasgow or Edinburgh) could handle the Olympics - but I guess that theory was proven correct with London 2012, all but quashing the chances of any other British city to host the games in the future. Would be great though for 2020 (and 2022) for the IOC to take a step back and look at what a smaller host city could offer the Olympic movement as the way things are progressing it seems the games are just for the big boys and smaller, but perfectly capable, cities won't get a look in in the future. stir.ts 18
Monster games = monster money for IOC monsters. If they can't get comparable money out of a smaller city, it'll never happen again. Too bad, but we're all on the same treadmill. Edited March 8, 2010 by stirthesoul
FYI 1191
The Olympic Games are not about which cities are just "capable", but rather about what cities are capable & can make them EXTRAVAGANT. Sure, there probably are smaller, lesser known cities that could make it work, but that's not what the IOC is looking for. They're looking for the most bang for the buck. As with anything else, why settle for 2nd (or 3rd) best when you can have THE Best. The only way the IOC were "to take a step back & look at what a smaller host city could offer the Olympic Movement" is when the Alpha-world cities are no longer interested & the IOC becomes desperate. IMO, I don't see smaller cities could offer much to the Olympic movement. Unless it is with a very compelling, legacy-driven bid, which smaller cities/communities are more reluctant to do. baron-pierreIV 1693
I don't know where else to stick this...because the Beijing 2008 folder is locked. Got word from my IOC inside sources that BOCOG will finally present their OR the end of this month at the earliest. Source says..hopefully, an electronic version (which you can imagine will be HUMUNGOUS) will also be available soon.
