136th Open Championship

Recommended Posts

Next Thursday, the world's best players will be gathered at what is widely regarded as the toughest course on the Open Championship rota. It's eight years since the last Open to be played at Carnoustie, but clearly the memories are still fresh for Tiger Woods who has been the first big name to call for a "fair" course next week.

Woods wants 'fairer' Carnoustie

I can understand why he is saying what he's said because the course last time was absolutely brutal. But I do think that for Woods to call it unfair, particularly in the light of the last couple of US Open courses they've played on, is a touch harsh. It almost seems as though he's preparing himself to not do as well as he might, and he's getting his excuses in first.

Any thoughts?

Preparations now well underway for next week, with the main warm-up tournament on the European Tour, the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond reaching its climax. There, the last remaining place in the Carnoustie field is up for grabs for those players who haven't already qualified. Plenty of players still in with a chance for it.
