Wow. Guess the Ghanaian team has quite a history in this particular FIFA event. Now, in less than an hour from now, it is the final match between Spain and Nigeria. Spain: zero - Nigeria: zero (after regular play AND at extra time) In the penalty shootout -> Nigeria: 3 - Spain: zero WINNERS OF THE 2007 U-17 WORLD CUP: NIGERIA! Nigerian team members with the U-17 trophy Therefore, their effort ties the all-time winning record in this tournament with the Brazilians at THREE wins each. And, guess where the next FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament will take place? You got it: NIGERIA in 2009! This will be only the second time it has been hosted in Africa. Congratulations to the team and good luck trying to qualify in a FIFA tournament, as defending champions and as the possible home team, too. Well, according to the BBC, these following prizes. - a THREE-bedroom house, with land deed documents and the like included; - the players got awarded the Member of the Order of the Niger; - team officials got awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (of Nigeria) medal. Sidebar: well, the grown-up Spaniards put on one pf the biggest shocks in volleyball history by defeating the Russian men (3-2) in the European championships in Moscow no less! and thereby won a spot in the Volleyball World Cup in Japan in November. The Russians seem to be falling apart. Aside from their dismal showing at the World Gymnastics championships (but good showing at the IAAF show in Osaka), the Italian women also humbled the gigantic Russian women (3-1) in another volleyball World Cup qualifying matchup held in Ankara and Luxembourg.
