AlexDS69
I managed to get the Chinese names of all 203 member countries and dependencies of the IOC, plus Montenegro and Tuvalu (if they do manage to compete in Beijing). This is how I think, if they use the Pinyin system, it will go. To make this simple, I have listed them in English in the order that they would come out under the Pinyin system: (NOTE: I know that the North and South Korean teams will march together in the opening ceremony, but I'm basing this on regular cases.) Greece kicks off the Parade of Nations as is its wont, and it is followed by... Albania, Algeria, Oman, Afghanistan, United Arab Emirates, Aruba, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Eritrea, Russian Federation, Ecuador, Ireland, Egypt, Estonia, Ethiopia, Australia, Austria, Andorra, Antigua & Barbuda, Angola, Armenia, Italy, Iraq, Islamic Republic of Iran, Israel, Jamaica, Yemen, India, Indonesia, Great Britain, British Virgin Islands, Uruguay, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Venezuela, Jordan, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Barbados, Papua New Guinea, Panama, Paraguay, Palestine, Bahrain, Bahamas, Pakistan, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Poland, Bolivia, Belize, Palau, Botswana, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Belarus, Bermuda, Benin, Bulgaria, Belgium, Peru, Iceland, Bhutan, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Portugal, Maldives, Malta, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Marshall Islands, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Morocco, Mexico, Mozambique, United States of America, American Samoa, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Federated States of Micronesia, Myanmar, France, Cape Verde, Philippines, Fiji, Korea, Germany, Denmark, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Togo, Timor Leste, Tajikistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Thailand, United Republic of Tanzania, Tonga, Turkey, Tuvalu, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Namibia, South Africa, Nauru, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Norway, Latvia, Lesotho, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Lebanon, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Liberia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Rwanda, Luxembourg, Romania, Grenada, Georgia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Gambia, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cuba, Guyana, Guam, Cameroon, Qatar, Kuwait, Comoros, Cote d'Ivoire, Croatia, Cayman Islands, Kenya, Cook Islands, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, Haiti, Montenegro, Honduras, Kyrgyzstan, Djibouti, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kiribati, Gabon, Ghana, Canada, Czech Republic, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Spain, Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong China, Syrian Arab Republic, Chile, Chad, Central African Republic, Chinese Taipei, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea , Swaziland, Saudi Arabia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, San Marino, Sao Tome & Principe, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Slovenia, Slovakia, El Salvador, Samoa, Serbia, Cyprus, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Suriname, Somalia, Solomon Islands... NYCD 2012
I think the Koreas will be presented as Han Guo which literaly mean Korea , I am not quite sure about your order though , Brunei's hanyinpinyi is Wen Lai and USA's in Mei Guo so why is Brunei before USA . taly's is Yi Da Li and France's is fa guo so why is Italy before France . BTHarner
I think I'll just wait until 08/08/08 and hope I get the usual email from the IOC with the order of the parade and the list of flag-bearers so I don't get too lost watching the ceremony. MartinW
AlexDS69, The countries won't be listed in that order. Have you seen any Chinese dictionary? The characters are listed in alphabetical order of the first pinyin syllable. That is: a, ai, an, ang, ao; ba, bai, ban, bang, bao, bei, ben, beng, bi, bian, biao, bie, bin, bing, bo, bu; ca, ...; ... ..., yun; za, zai, zan, zang, zao, ze, zei, zen, zeng, zha, zhai, zhan, zhang, zhao, zhe, zhen, zheng, zhi, zhong, zhou, zhu, zhua, zhuan, zhuang, zhui, zhun, zhuo, zi, zong, zou, zu, zuan, zui, zun, zuo. I don't have time now to reorder your list according to alphabetical pinyin, but I believe this is more likely to be the order used for the parade of athletes. AlexDS69
I used the Pinyin table that is on Wikipedia.
DesmondChan
I used the Pinyin table that is on Wikipedia. It is wrong. I think they will use Han Yu Pin Yin to make the marching order. If Han Yu Pin Yin is applied, Albania will be the first one, followed by Afhanistan. Note that Taiwan will be placed in the last 3, as Zhong Hua Tai Pei (Chinese Taipei), which will be followed by Zhong Guo Xiang Gang (Hong Kong China), then the host nation - Zhong Guo (China). Taiwanese will have "problem" with that... again! Some countries pronouncation in Han Yu Pin Yin: USA - Mei Guo France - Fa Guo Canada - Jia Na Da Italy - Yi Ta Li Isreal - Yi Se Lie Japan - Ri Ben Korea - Han Guo Spain - Xi Ban Ya Iraq - Yi La Ke Iran - Yi Rang Mexico - Mo Xi Ge Australia - Au Zhou Germany - De Guo South Africa - Nan Fei Egypt - Ai Ji Russia - Er Luo Si UK - Yin Guo Austria - Au Di Li New Zealand - Niu Zi Lan Portugal - Bu Dao Ya ... and many more Note: "Guo" means "Country in Mandarin. MartinW
Corrections to the pinyin of some of the above countries: Italy - Yi Da Li Australia - Ao Da Li Ya Russia - E Luo Si UK - Ying Guo Austria - Ao Di Li New Zealand - Xin Xi Lan Portugal - Pu Tao Ya

Guardian
Easy there, jethromoscow. Besides, not all of those nations will be at Sochi for 2014. Never mind that this forum is all about Beijing 2008.
