4gamesandcounting
Hi all, been a while, but from what I can gather the LA Bid for 2016 will not use the Colisseum - how can this be? Also what on earth is this idea of including Vegas in the bid? Sounds like LA are handing it to Chicago on a plate to me. Any details would be cool. THe LA Colisseum will certainly be used for athletics and ceremonies; It will have a steel canopy around it to give it a new look; Las Vegas, I gather may have futball preliminaries and perhaps poker if it becomes an Olympic sport! These anouncements I feel are a plus, to show they really want these games and will only help.

Sounds like LA are handing it to Chicago on a plate to me. Any details would be cool. Not sure where you think you heard that the Coliseum was not being used. That is not at all true. It is slated to be the host of the opening/closing ceremonies and track and field events. There was an announcement that the Home Depot Center's private owner was to spend $60 million on an expansion which would hold tennis and soccer preliminaries. As far as Vegas, it is to hold a soccer preliminary as is San Diego, which is 120 miles south of LA (with frequent train service between the two cities). This is similar to Chicago's bid, where they expect to hold soccer prelims. as far away as Minnesota (over 400 miles from Chicago). In comparing these remote sites for soccer, it is probably Los Angeles that would get the benefit in that Vegas and San Diego are popular international destinations and closer to Los Angeles (Vegas is about 260 miles from LA), while Minnesota and Indiana really are not places people from outside the US would want to normally visit. Ohhhhhh, I didn't know they had something slated for San Juan Capistrano. That's like 20 minutes from where my folks live right now and my brother will build his new house there! I'm all for LA now!! -And ejaycat said Soccer for the Bay Area had been moved to PacBell-Giants park right in the heart of San Francisco (which would be a wiser choice over Stanford -- where there are no hotel rooms in downtown Palo Alto). Is AT&T park the only baseball stadium capacle of hosting American Football and Soccer matches? Also Los Angeles lost to Chicago yesterday for the 2016 US Olympic Candidate. Too bad, they had quite a good venue plan.

Soccer-Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego 37. Soccer-Stanford Stadium This list is very outdated, in fact it's even incorrect. The LA Sports Arena was never proposed as a venue for 2016; it's even anticipated that it will eventually be torn down. During the USOC November summit, the bid cities were asked to change the location of some of their venues. Chicago and LA complied. LA was asked to cluster more of their venues, and as a result, there were changes. Example, the events planned for the Anaheim Convention Center were moved to Long Beach; BMX biking was moved from Griffith Park to the Home Depot Center. Here's the final list of LA 2016 venues, from what I've gathered from various news sources: LOS ANGELES COUNTY City of Los Angeles Venues: 1. Pauley Pavilion, UCLA - Volleyball 2. Memorial Coliseum - Opening/Closing Ceremonies, Track and Field/Athletics 3. Shrine Auditorium - Weightlifting 4. Galen Center, USC - Boxing 5. Los Angeles Convention Center - International Broadcast Center 9. USC - Media Village City of Long Beach Venues: 1. Long Beach Convention Center - Rhythmic Gymnastics, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Wrestling 2. Long Beach Arena - Judo 3. Long Beach Swim Complex - Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Water Polo 4. Belmont Plaza Pool - Diving 5. Long Beach Volleyball Complex - Beach Volleyball 6. Long Beach Marina - Sailing 7. Marine Stadium - Rowing, Canoe/Kayak 8. Walter Pyramid, Cal State University, Long Beach - Team Handball Prelims City of Carson Venue: Home Depot Center - Archery, Tennis, Track Cycling, BMX Cycling, Soccer City of Pasadena Venue: Rose Bowl - Soccer Finals City of Arcadia Venue: Santa Anita Park - Equestrian Sports City of Monterey Park Venue: Weingart Stadium, East LA College - Field Hockey City of San Dimas Venue: Raging Waters - White-water Kayak City of Pomona Venue: LA County Fairplex - Shooting, Modern Pentathlon City of Inglewood Venue: The Forum - Volleyball ORANGE COUNTY City of Anaheim Venue: Honda Center - Basketball City of Irvine Venue: Bren Events Center, UCI - Badminton City of San Juan Capistrano Venue: Oaks Blenheim/Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park - Equestrian Three-day Event
