mattperiolat
Olympic flame will visit Beijing directly from Olympia, Greece just to split it into two flames, one will go to Almaty for world tour and another flame will remain lit in lantern to wait for the suitable time to start Everest journey, that lantern will be placed in President house for security and honour of the flame.Later when everest flame will start its mountain journey, Olympic torch relay will be paused in china (due to IOC restrictions), and after competion of everest journey both flames will be mixed and this flame will get the honour to sit on main cauldron. And this protects the people climbing Everest with the flame how exactly?

rav3n
No, the first pic is not the cauldron, but some sort of lamps being installed arrond the complex.
baron-pierreIV
No, the first pic is not the cauldron, but some sort of lamps being installed arrond the complex. No, those are actually radars tracking the chips implanted in Falun Gong members and Tibetan activists, masquerading as 'green' lamposts. These 'radars' will warn your friendly Commie watchdogs if one of those trouble-makers are sniffing nearby and approaching the venues.

micheal_warren
It really hasn't grown on me at all; it's big and ugly, I'm afraid. Fair enough, I actually quite like it! Its amazing how much more prepared Beijing is compared to Athens four years ago when the media was full of stories on how much Athens still had to do
Alan in Montréal
Some of the interior shots resemble the interior shots of Montreal's Olympic Stadium. I suspect it's due to the rather tight roof opening, but it's very familiar.
NY20??
I like it at night. It's stunning. In the day, however, it's overpowering and uninspiring.

NY20??
And I love how the roof looks from above, especially in that 2nd pic. It still has the signature steel lattice, but nothing behind that to cause an ugly chaos, unlike the rest of the stadium.
james
New pics of Beijing Bird Nest, along with some bird eye views (those are a little old) [ I thought all the seats have been installed as at January 29, 2008. Which were in total number of 80,000 seats. What are the above photos still with empty seat spaces?

james
maybe they're keeping a dragon inside the hole. Hahaha...lol....hahaha...Oh my goodness. I am yet to see a live dragon maybe it's Beijing with such exceptional part included in the celeberation. I think like the dragon idea if real that's what the hole is going to be meant for. baron-pierreIV
New pics from beijingupdates.com. Now the night aerial view is almost the same as the renderings: All these aerial shots are pretty and all that. But who really sees it at that angle? 99.9% of the people will see it from the ground as one big behemoth. And it still doesn't have that glow at night as depicted in the renderings. barstad the jock
And it still doesn't have that glow at night as depicted in the renderings. Theres one thing we should take into account though, in those photos the stadium is clearly visible...... once the usual Beijing pollution and smog is suffocating everyone then youll get the whole stadium glowing lol
barstad the jock
ok after spending half an hour trying to figure out how the h#*l to attatch a picture i give up lol the one i wanted to attatch is on the 1st page of this thread, a rendering pic of the stadium looking down with the exterior concourse coverd in some sort of graphic designs 1. can anyone fill me in as to what the designs are of and 2. does anyone know if these designs are actually going to be in the finished design? whatever they are i gotta say they look pretty damn smart, if they dont put them in then the day shots are going to look pretty uneventfull with a grey steel hulk of a stadium sitting on a probably plain uninspiring grey concrete concourse

That's all. I don't know anything about those graphic designs around the stadium -- but I suppose that it's only an artistic impression to make the stadium's surroundings look more interesting at the picture. But I don't expect them to be actually realised. For example, the original concept in Athens was to plant many trees around the refurbished Olympic Stadium, but in the end, they chose a rather barren landscape with lots of dust, sand or whatever that ochre stuff was. barstad the jock
thanks for the pointers Olympian, will give it a bash yeah, thats the pic i meant pitty the finished article wont probably look like that as for athens, i guess with everything else that was going on, landscaping was the last thing they were going to worry about, the end result still looked pretty damn good though
