Maryjane
Almost finished, I told you!Huh? Is there a test event? I think the opening ceremony stage is being put up! There would be lighting tests as the Water Cube does recently ahead, and also the installation of the ceremony stage, can't wait to see the pictures. baron-pierreIV
We all know you are bitter cause you didn't get ticket for the Opening, get over it! Oh, please. Trying to outsnide me, jeremie? No, I am not really bitter. Maybe a little -- but not overly. But considering the strictures United placed on an upgrade from economy to Business; my not being overly fond of the host people (really cannot stand long stretches of the sound of Ch...); AND having guessed how they will light the flame -- so what's the surprise? -- it's all for the best. Citius Altius Fortius
I have a question - I saw on one computer image of the proposed Bejing Olympic Stadium that they planned to make somethink like a mosaic around the stadium with the chinese zodiac signs - it this plan still prevailing? Olympian2004
I have a question - I saw on one computer image of the proposed Bejing Olympic Stadium that they planned to make somethink like a mosaic around the stadium with the chinese zodiac signs - it this plan still prevailing? We had that question already a few days ago. Here's what NY20?? and I answered: I don't know anything about those graphic designs around the stadium -- but I suppose that it's only an artistic impression to make the stadium's surroundings look more interesting at the picture. But I don't expect them to be actually realised. For example, the original concept in Athens was to plant many trees around the refurbished Olympic Stadium, but in the end, they chose a rather barren landscape with lots of dust, sand or whatever that ochre stuff was. It shouldn't be surprising that these designs won't become reality; renderings and concept art rarely match the real thing. Just look at renderings of the Water Cube's inside and what's actually in there.
Xu Wen-Ting
how many people can be into the the stadium? It's about 91,000 seats during the Games, and after the Games,it will be cuted into 80,000 seats.
Faster
We had that question already a few days ago. Here's what NY20?? and I answered: In regards to Athens though, they had plans for gardens around the stadium, but time ran out to complete them. baron-pierreIV
All that zodiac signs turned into greenery would only look good if you could see it from above. How many of you will actually fly over the Olympic park? Edited April 4, 2008 by baron-pierreIV

baron-pierreIV
Looking at this latest photo of the stadium infield, it would seem that a major portion of the Chinese Opera artistic stuff will take place on that long rectangular stage to be raised and lowered by hydraulic lifts, while they bring in the athletes much earlier, and have them sit or mill around the sides. The open area around the stage should accommodate all the attending athletes.

I wonder how they will do that with the lawn?

Citius Altius Fortius
I know there had been a thread already, but I wonder where they will put the cauldron - maybe like in Seoul inside the stadium... or for what is this tower?
Olympian2004
or for what is this tower? Your question has already been answered in this thread: It's just a communications tower. It will stay as a landmark after the Games: It has nothing to do with the flame.

barstad the jock
Altho in the new Olympic dictum of the day -- things are NOT what they seem; it could possibly double as the Cauldron Tower too. Think you could well be onto something there Baron.... the artist impression pic of the tower looks big sure, but the real thing looks like its going to be way bigger and bulkier than the impression, (even with all the scaffolding still around it) if it is just a communication tower then why would it need so much bulk in its design??????
