2007 Cricket World Cup

It is not appropriate for us, or anybody else for that matter, to speculate on what caused Bob Woolmer's untimely death. I'm sure the cause will be revealed in time.

And it seeems the autopsy report is inconclusive, so this will probably be a matter no-one will ever be certain of.

Wow. Talk about a bombshell announcement that is going to oversadow the whole tournament now. Jamaican police have now said that they are treating Woolmer's death as murder, and that he died by strangulation!!

KINGSTON, Jamaica, March 22 AP - Pakistan's cricket coach Bob Woolmer was murdered in his hotel room after the team's shocking World Cup loss to Ireland, Jamaican police said today.

``The official report from the pathologist states that Mr Woolmer's death was due to asphyxia as a result of manual strangulation,'' Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas said in a statement that was read by a police spokesman at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel where Woolmer was killed on Sunday.

``In these circumstances, the matter of Mr Woolmer's death is now being treated by the Jamaican police as murder.''

Deputy commissioner Mark Shields said there could be one or more people involved but added that there was no evidence of forced entry into his hotel room and hotel security is part of the investigation.

``There is an ongoing murder investigation into the death of Robert Woolmer and as a result the security arrangements at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel are a part of those investigations,'' Owen Ellington, assistant commissioner of police, said in a statement.

Pakistan cricketers were finger printed and interviewed on Thursday by police investigating the death. They were allowed to leave the hotel in the afternoon and travel to Montego Bay.

AP

Scotland Yard detectives are also travelling now to Jamaica to join the case.

Bob Woolmer's death has now been confirmed as MURDER.

Police have confirmed death by strangulation, ALL the Parkistani team have been fingerprinted and affidavids signed.

One thing that has got me saying hmmmm is the reaction of former Cirket great, Imran Kahn.

I'd be watching this space!

The SPECULATION is that the cricket betting syndicates from the sub-continent could be involved. They would certainly be the most likely suspects, they've been the biggest blight on the game for many years now.

What has Imran said? I haven't been able to find any comments from him.

I really don't understand how a game of cricket (or a game of football for that matter) can be lost on purpose without the involvement of a least a few members of the team. It's not like horse racing where the result can be significantly altered by the actions of one person. Of course agreeing to deliberately throw a match does not mean any knowledge of a possible murder - but if there was anything suspicious in the game with Ireland some of the Pakistani team members are possibly going to find themselves in a lot more trouble than they ever anticipated.

Imran Kahn was trying to "shake off" reports that corruption is still rampant within Pakitsan Cricket. It's sad to watch this country slowly destroying its self from within.

People should note that Pakistan is denoted as a failed state

1. Sudan

2. Democratic Republic of the Congo

3. Cote d'Ivoire

4. Iraq

5. Zimbabwe

6. Chad

7. Somalia

8. Haiti

9. Pakistan

10. Afghanistan

Ethiopia, Nigeria, Liberia, Colombua, Nepal, Bangladesh, North Korea, Yeman, Uzbekistan, Rwanda, Malawai, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Congo and Guinea Bissua are defined as in crisis.

Canada, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and Japan are the only countries in the susbtainable bracket.

Are these countries rated outside the G8? (where's America?)

Canada is in the G8, we were in the G7 before the G8 was formed, along with Japan

The other members of the G7 are in the monitoring catagory, while Russia is in the warning catagory, as is most of the world with excepts being much of western Europe, Argentina and Chila, South Africa, Mongolia and Korea, along with Costa Rica and Panama.

The big question this raises is what sort of security is in place at the team hotels during this WC? In my experience when staying at hotels during major sports events (Atlanta 96, World Cup 2002), the security is TIGHT to get in or anywhere near the hotels. So how does someone get into a team hotel in the Cricket World Cup and strangle a major team's coach? How was his room accesses? Surely there must be tapes of the corridors outside the Woolmer's room, so was it a winsdow/balcony? It's bizarre that something like this could happen and I'm still loathe to think this could be an inside job by anyone on the team or support staff.

Scary part is this may be true...And now we have a scenario of the fact that Bob Woolmer vomiting at the time an a massive convulsion caused his neck to break - yeah right!

With a partner as an emergency nurse, I've heard of much weirder and more bizarre ways for people to die.

That must explain for Indian military commandos coming in to the area, just to protect its cricketers.

Meanwhile the cricket does continue, and in my view, rightly so. India look like they're heading home. They're 116-6, chasing 255 to beat Sri Lanka.

Quite safe...The whole team is protected, and India, being a democracy, has a little bit more decorum, and the fact that it is the MAJOR host for the next CWC in 2011.

Who'd have predicted the super eight line up as it is now though?

Sri Lanka

Australia

South Africa

New Zealand

England

Ireland

Bangladesh

West Indies.

Eat your hat Ricky Ponting!

No one!

That's why we need the Cricket World Cup AND the new Twenty/20 WC later this year.

Twenty/20 would be perfect for those Smash'em Bash'em types, especially the "minnows" like Bermuda and Canada, and, hopefully, the USA.

As we are about to find out, Cricket really needs the global coverage, with India now out, the ICC has just lost 950 000 000 potential TV viewers.

With the already gone Pakistan that's just over 1 000 000 000 viewers gone!
