Earthquake, Plane crashing next to Aus training field, Explosion in hotel, Special security everywhere for to escort people, incomplete stadia, shock warm up games with South Africa nearly losing and New Zealnd getting beaten, both by nothing nations. Hope when the matches actually start things pick up...but with the tourni lasting so damn long there is plenty of room for problems. Ruling Czar Posted March 13, 2007 Report Share Posted March 13, 2007 We, as well as 1.7 billion other people around the world ,had the enormous priveledge of seeing the opulence of the Opening ceremony of CWC in Trelawny Jamaica. After what was a low keyed start, the Organizers stunned the global audience with a real celebration after the Parade of Teams. 2,000 dancers some in carnival costumes as wide as 70 feet exploded onto the field to the roar of a sellout 10,000 amphitheatre style seated crowd. The first segment involved a human volcano comprising over 400 singers and dancers dressed in the brilliant red and gold costumes of the Jamaica Choir! The Volcano was in homage to the origin of the islands. To the enormous sound of hundreds of maroon drummers, Lava oozed from the volcano and spilled onto the field to form the gigantic singing and dancing choir which performed High mass with David rudder while the stadium audience was transformed into a sea of frantically waving banners. 2,000 yards of "Banana Gold" silk was pulled onto the field from beneath the eighty foot stage by scores of sundancers in homage to the island sun. Next, as the sun segment faded, the field burst to life as it was overwhelmed with of 500 butterflies and the twinkling dazzle of countless fireflies. Each Butterfly was approximately 10 feet in diametre! After a mezmerizing display, the stage was literally set on fire by 50 fire breathers. Then, in what was a most definite highlight for the evening, 400 plantation ladies dressed in flowing Titanium white gowns waved white parasols depicting the heal and toe elegance of the Plantocracy. After this, Performances were given by the I three back up singers of Bob marley and Jimmy cliff, Climaxing in a earth trembling fireworks display to a 3 hour "opulence fest" of caribbean energy.! From what I saw, I didn't think the West Indies' batting performance was all that, but they bowled pretty tidily. Pakistan look like they have a fair bit to find. Anyway, day three has seen a moment of history with South Africa's Herschelle Gibbs becoming the first man to hit six sixes in an over in a one-day international against Holland.
